17 Mobile Mounting Bracket (Model MB-007) – F or mobile use (I n- car Installation); use it to install the BC355N in your car . External Speaker (ESP20, ESP12, or ESP5) – T o increase speaker volume in noisy envir onments.
18 Helpful Hints • If strong interference or electrical noise is received , relocate the scanner or its antenna awa y from the sourc e. • If you are operating the scanner in a fringe area or need t o improv e reception, use an optional ant enna designed for multi-band cover age.
19 2. Connect the mobile antenna plug into the ANT connector on the rear panel. F or more information on ant enna installation, please refer t o the instruction guide that came with your mobile antenna.
20 3. Drill the necessary holes and secure the mounting bracket in place using the screws pr ovided. CA UTION: Do not drill into air bags. Do not drill if wha t is behind the dashboard is unknown. 4. Mount the scanner to the bracket only after the wiring has been connected to the rear panel .
21 Caution: In vehicles with a positiv e ground, the RED wire connects to the chassis and the BLACK wir e connects to the accessory contact in the fuse bo x.
22 KEY PURPOSE HOLD Pr ess this key to stop scanning or searching and to remain on the curren t frequency . HOLD displays on the screen. Pr ess HOLD a second time to resume scanning . UP and DOWN Pr ess these direc tional keys to: • Manually search up or down for frequencies while in Hold mode.
23 KEY PURPOSE PD/FD/EMG Pr ess this key to scan the P olice, F ire, and Emergency Ser vices bands. Pr essing this key cycles through the frequencies in the f ollowing order: • P olice/F ire/Emer.

25 KEY PURPOSE CLOS E C A LL Pr ess this key to begin monitoring f or strong , nearby signals. P ressing this key c ycles through the frequencies in the follo wing order: • Close Call ® Priority - CC checks for Close Call hits ev ery 2 seconds while monitoring other frequencies.
26 KEY PURPOSE SEARCH Pr ess the SEARCH key to search f or ac tive frequencies within a selected band range. L/O Pr ess this key to temporarily or permanently lock out frequencies or channels from being searched or scanned. (L/O is explained in mor e detail in a later section.
27 ITEM PURPOSE VOL UME Contr ol/Po wer Switch T urn this control clockwise to turn on the BC355N unit. Continue turning this contr ol clockwise to adjust the volume.

29 U S I N G Y O U R B C355 N S C AN N E R SE T U P Adjusting Squelch T o Adjust Squelch - 1. T urn SQ completely counter clockwise. Y ou should hear open squelch noise. 2. T urn SQ clock wise slowly until the sound disappears. This is the threshold point at which the incoming signal is just slightly stronger than the noise will open the squelch.
30 SCAN Scanning allows you to scan thr ough channels in various ser vice banks. Pr ess a service bank key ( PD/FD/EMG , AIR/MRN , WX , CB, or PRIV A TE ) to nd an ac tive frequency within that bank. All activated banks plus their “private ” channels are scanned .
31 Pr ess BAND key to select 1 of 13 separate frequency bands to search. P ress the SEARCH key to beg in searching . The scanner displays frequencies as it sear ches and stops on ac tive frequencies until that transmission ends. If no transmission r esumes after 2 seconds, the sear ch automatically continues thr ough the rest of the band.
32 Pr essing AIR/MRN more than once will cycle through the banks in this order: 1. Air/Marine 2. Air 3. Marine 4. None NO TE: The AIR and MRN banks share 100 PRIV A TE channels. These user-programmed channels ar e scanned after preprogrammed channels.
33 Scanning Ser vice Bank Tips If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Begin scanning Pr ess any service bank key ; the bank label ashes and the SCAN message moves across the display scr een.
34 If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Stop scanning Pr ess HOLD . The scanner stays on the displayed channel until scanning is resumed. The bank’ s screen label remains steady and does not ash.
35 If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Keep scanning after the BC355N has stopped on an active channel If the BC355N stops on an active channel that you do not want t o monitor but you do not want to lock out, pr ess the bank key or the UP key .

39 • Privat e Bank • Pr ogram F requencies into Pr ogrammable Banks. • Pr ogram L ock • Clear All Memor y L OCK OUT CHANNELS / FREQUENCIES Sometimes the scanner may stop on a particular channel or frequency because of noise or other unwanted transmissions .
40 Permanent L ock Out Pr essing L/O twice permanently locks out the current frequency or channel. The scanner displays “ L/O ” for that frequency or channel and continues scanning . “ L/O ” frequencies/channels can be manually restor ed; the procedur e is provides in this section.

Pr ess the appropriate bank key ( PRIV A TE, PD/FD/EMG or AIR/ MRN) to start scanning the bank that has the channel or frequency you want to unlock.

Note: F or the fac tor y preprogrammed channels , the earliest channel will be unlocked when y ou lock out more than 100 channels.

46 Close Call Priority Repeatedly press until the Close Call P riority icon displays . The scanner checks every 2 second for a nearby transmission. Y ou may hear a slight break in audio during this time . Close Call Do Not Disturb Repeatedly press until the Do Not Disturb icon displays .

51 PR I VA T E BA N K The BC355N also provides 3 separ ate banks to hold fa vorite frequencies. When you nd a fr equency that you would like to listen to again, you can pr ogram it into either the PD/FD/EMG or AIR/MRN service bank or into the Private bank.

58 TROUBLESHOO TING GUIDE PROBLEM SOL UTION Scanner won ’t work T r y one of these options: • Check the connections at both ends of the AC adapter . • T urn on the wall switch of your room. Y ou c ould be using an outlet controlled by the wall switch.
59 PROBLEM SOL UTION Improper Reception T r y one of these options: • Check the antenna and its connection. • Move the scanner . • Y ou ma y be in a fringe area. This may requir e an optional multi-band antenna. Check with your dealer or local electronics store .
60 PROBLEM SOL UTION Scan won ’t stop Try one of these options: • Check and adjust Squelch • Check the antenna connection. • Check to see if all channels are locked out. It is possible that none of the programmed fr equencies are active at the time.
