22 Conv enti onal Scan ning Conventional scann i n g is a relatively si m ple concept. Each group of users in a conventional syste m is assign ed a singl e freq uency (f or simple x syst ems) or two f requen cie s ( for r epeater systems). Any time one of them t ransmits, their t ransmission al ways goe s out on t he s ame frequenc y .
23 Understanding Scanning Simplex Operation Simplex systems us e a sing le frequency for both transmit and receive. Mos t radi os using this type of operation are limited to line-of-sight operation. This type of radio is f requently used at construction job sites, and with inexpensive consum er radi os such as GMRS/F RS radios.

27 Understanding Scanning subfleet talk groups; inst ead they use a 5-digi t ID f or each talk group. T y pe IIi Hybrid — these systems support a mix of both T ype I and T ype II user s . L i ke T ype I systems, you must know the system’s fleet map to ensure proper tra cking.

29 Understanding Scanning the L T R data matches a talk group ID that you hav e stored in the ta lk group ID list a nd have not locked out. L TR systems are frequently pr ogramm ed so that each radio has a unique user ID. I-C all (Motor ola/EDAC S) I-calls are di r e ct unit-to-unit tra nsmissions that a re not heard by othe r system users.

32 Setting Up Y our Sc anner These guid elines will he lp you inst a ll and set up your new s canner: • If your scanner receives interference or electrical noise, move the s c anner or its antenna away from the source. • T o im prove the scanner ’s reception, use an optional external a ntenna designed f or multi-ban d coverage .
33 Setting Up Your Scanner 2. In st a ll 3 AA batteries, matchi ng the pola rity symbols (+ -). W ARNING! Set AL KALINE/ Ni -MH to Ni-MH f or us e on ly wi th rechargea ble batteri e s. Never att e mpt to recharge non-recha r g eable batteries. Non-rechargea ble batteries can get hot and can even burst if you try to recharge them .
34 If an AC adapter i s connect ed to the scann er , t he scann er checks the cond ition of the installed bat teries. If the scanner is turned off and th e ba tteries require a full charge , Normal Charging appears as the bat- teries are recharged. When the bat teries are f ully ch ar ged , Charge Complete a ppears.
35 Setting Up Your Scanner Con nect ing the Ante nna T o a ttach the s upplied flexible antenn a to the connector on the top of y our sc anner , simply screw it onto the scanner's SMA conn ector .
36 W ARNING! Never connect any part of the headphone jack to the antenna jack or connect the radio to an installation w here the antenna and audi o connection are grounded. 55 Other Settings Pressing any key while the backlight is on extends the backlight period. Pressing while the back lig ht is on turns off t he backlight.
56 4. U sing the scroll control, select a number between -8 and 7 seen in the lo wer right corner o f the di s- play . Adjust the setting for the bes t reception.
57 Other Settings Hint: If you h ave troubl e transferring d ata betwe en your scann er and your computer , try setting the baud rate to a slow er setting. Use the included connection ca ble t o c onnect your scanner to another BR330T sc anner or your pers onal compute r .
58 Then c onnect the other end of the c ables together using the null modem c o nnecto r and gen der changer . Then set the scanner containing the programm ing yo u want to transfer as the master scanner , then set the other scanner a s the sla ve scanner.

H owever , to get the most enjoyment f rom your scan- ner (especia lly if you do not live near one of these cou nties), you m ust cus tomize the programming for you r area.

Duri ng service search, the sc anner searches starting with the lowest frequenc y i n the search range you select to the highest frequency in the range.
