2 W elcome Congratulations on your purchase of the Uniden single handset (XS1455) or dual handset (XS1455+1) cordless telephone and answering system. This phone is designed and engineered to exacting standards for reliability , long life, and outstanding performance.
3 T erminology Base The main part of the phone that connects to your phone line and lets you make and receive calls. Charger A cradle that charges the handset battery . It connects to power but does not connect to a phone line. CID Caller ID is available from your telephone provider .

7 Installing the Phone Choosing the Best Location When choosing a location for your new phone, here are some important guidelines you should consider: Note: For maximum range: • Keep both the base and handset antennas free of obstruction. • When the handset is not in use, place the handset in an upright position.
8 Installing the Rechargeable Battery Packs into the Handsets Each handset is powered by a rechargeable battery pack. Once installed, the battery charges automatically when the handset is placed in the base or charging cradle (XS1455+1 only).
9 Installing the Base Unit and Charging Cradle 1) Connect each AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack and to each standard 240V AC wall outlet. Note: • Use only the supplied AAD-041S(M) AC adapter for the base unit and AAD-600S(M) for the charging cradle. Do not use any other AC adapter .
10 3) Make sure that the charge/in use LED and LED (XS1455+1 only) illuminate. If the LED does not illuminate, check to see that the AC adapter is plugged in and that the handset makes good contact with the cradle’s charging contacts. Note: • Connect the AC adapter to a continuous power supply .
1 1 Mounting the Base Unit on a W all Standard wall plate mounting This phone can be mounted on any standard wall plate. 1) Snap the wall mount adapter into the notches on the base top. 2) Plug the AC adapter into the DC IN 9V jack. 3) Plug the AC adapter into a standard 240V AC wall outlet.
12 Direct wall mounting If you don’t have a standard wall plate, you can mount your phone directly to the wall. Before doing this, consider the following: A void electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location that could cause a hazard when inserting screws into the wall.
13 Register Handsets to the Main Base before Using! (XS1455+1 only) Both handsets will need to be registered to the main base unit before use. Whichever handset you choose to charge in the base unit will automatically register to the base unit. The handset charging in the extra charging cradle MUST also be registered to the base unit before use.
14 When to Re-register Handsets (XS1455+1 only) In some cases, it may be necessary to re-register your handsets. T o re-register your handsets, please follow registration steps outlined on page 13.
15 Basic Setup There are four basic options that you will need to set up: AutoT alk, CIDCW (Caller ID on Call W aiting), Name T ag and Insert 0. All options are available on the XS1455 handset. For the XS1455+1 the options are available as follows. CIDCW option can only be set by using Handset 1.
16 Activating Caller ID on Call W aiting (Handset No.1 only) Caller ID allows you to see the name and number of the calling party before you answer the phone. Caller ID on Call W aiting (CIDCW) lets you see the name and number of a call that comes in when you are on the line.
17 Setting Insert 0 This feature adds '0' or '00' to the number , when you receive Caller ID messages. The default setting for New Zealand is On. The default setting for Australia is Off. 1) When the phone is in standby mode, press and hold the [caller id/menu] .
18 Using the Speed Dial Memory Y our cordless phone allows you to store up to 10 names and numbers in each handset. Y ou can dial these numbers with just a few key presses. The speed dial memory is not limited to phone numbers. Y ou can store any number (up to 20 digits) that you need to enter once your call connects.
19 Storing a Name and Number in Memory 1) With the phone in standby , press [memory] . 2) Enter [0] - [9] or use [vol/ / ] and [vol/ / ] to select the speed dial location where you would like to store this entry , and then press [select/channel] key (XS1455+1) or [select/remote] key (XS1455) twice.
20 4) Enter a name accord ing to the in struct ions b elow , then press [select/channel] key (XS1455+1) or [select/remote] key (XS1455). If n o name is req uired, go to step 5 . • The name can be up to 13 characters. • Use [ /tone/ ] and [#/ ] to move the cursor to the desired location.
21 If you make a mistake while entering a name Use [ /tone/ ] or [#/ ] to move the cursor to the incorrect character . Press [delete/transfer] key (XS1455+1) or [delete/channel] key (XS1455) to erase the wrong character . Then enter the correct character .
22 Storing Caller ID in Speed Dial Memory Caller ID names and numbers shown in the Caller ID list can be stored in speed dial memory . T o store a caller id name/number in memory: 1) With the phone in standby , press [cid/menu] . Select the phone number to be stored from the Caller ID list by pressing [vol/ / ] or [vol/ / ] .
23 Using Y our Phone Making and Receiving Calls Handset on the cradle Handset off the cradle Making a call 1) Pick up the handset from the cradle. 2) Press [talk/ash] . 3) Listen for the dial tone. 4) Dial the number . OR 1) Pick up the handset from the cradle.
24 3) Press [talk/ash] . CONNECTING changes to T ALK, and the volume setting and the number selected appear on the display . Then the displayed number is dialed.
25 T ransferring a Call (XS1455+1 only) Y our cordless phone allows you to transfer outside calls from one handset to another . Only one handset at a time can talk with an outside caller . While one handset is in use, the other cannot go off hook to listen to conversations or make an outgoing call.
26 Redialing the Last Dialed Number 1) Pick up the handset from the cradle. 2) Press [talk/ash] . 3) Listen for the dial tone. 4) Press [redial/pause] .
27 Using Call W aiting If you have Call W aiting service, you can receive calls while on the line. If a call comes in while you are on the phone, you will hear a call waiting tone. If you have CIDCW activated, you will see the name and number of the incoming caller .
28 Find Handset T o locate a lost handset, press [nd handset] on the base. The handsets will beep for 60 seconds. The beeping will stop when any handset key is pressed or when [nd handset] is pressed. The handset will also stop beeping automatically when an incoming call is received.
29 Caller ID and CIDCW (Caller ID on Call W aiting) Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID services through your local telephone provider to use these features. When the telephone rings, the Caller ID feature allows you to view the caller ’s name, phone number , date and time of call.
30 Caller ID on Call W aiting (CIDCW) If you subscribe to CIDCW offered by your telephone company , you will hear a Call Waiting tone while you are on a call, and the Caller ID data will be displayed at the handset. T o accept the waiting call, see "Using Call Waiting" on page 27.
31 Deleting Information from the Caller ID List If the phone receives more Caller ID messages than it can store, the oldest one in the list is automatically deleted. Caller ID data can also be deleted manually . Deleting a Caller ID message 1) Press [cid/menu] in standby .
32 The Integrated Answering Machine The cordless phone has a built-in answering machine that answers and records incoming calls. Y ou can also use your answering machine to record a conversation, leave a voice memo message, or to announce a special outgoing message to callers when you're away from your phone.
33 Setting Up Y our Answering Machine Answering Machine Setting T o set the following six functions you must enter the menu mode. • With the phone in standby , use [menu/clock] to scroll through the menu options. The system returns to standby and sounds a tone after the last menu option.
34 Setting the Time The clock on the cordless phone’s answering machine starts when power is supplied to the base. Follow these steps to set the clock to the correct time. 1) With the phone in standby , press [menu/clock] . The system announces "T ime" followed by the current time and the instructions for setting the time.
35 Y ou hear a conrmation tone followed by the announcement "Time," and the day and time are then announced for your review . After a few seconds, the system announces "T o set security code, press menu again.
36 Setting the Ring Time The ring time setting allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before your answering machine plays the outgoing message.
37 2) Press [vol/select/ ] or [vol/select/ ] until the desired time appears. 3) Press [set] to select the new recording time. Y ou hear a conrmation tone, then the announcement "Record time" followed by the new recording time. After a few seconds, the system announces "T o set message alert, press menu again.
38 Setting Y our Outgoing Message (Greeting) When you receive a call, the answering machine automatically plays either a preset message or your own greeting. Preset message The following message is prerecorded: "Hello, no one is available to take your call.
39 Recording a personal outgoing message (Greeting) 1) With the phone in standby , press and hold [greet] . Y ou will hear the announcement "Record greeting" and a conrmation tone. [ ] ashes on the message counter . 2) Start recording your message.
40 Setting the Base Ringer V olume The base has three ringer volume settings: high, low , and off. Y ou can change the ringer volume while in standby or while an incoming call is ringing.
41 Using Y our Answering Machine T urning the Answering Machine On/Off T o turn the answering machine on: 1) With the phone in standby , press [ ] (answer on/off) . 2) The phone announces "Answering system is on." and plays the current greeting.
42 Reviewing Messages The message counter displays the number of messages stored in memory . If the display ashes, new messages waiting for you. The ashing number represents the number of new messages, not total messages. The cordless phone plays your new messages rst; after all the new messages are played, you can play the old messages.
43 Remote access with the handset (XS1455 only) Y ou can operate your answering system from another room using a handset. • If you press the end key before the answering system answers, the phone will return to standby . • If the answering system does not answer within 5 seconds, you hear a beep and the phone will return to standby .
44 V oice Memo The voice memo function allows you to record messages as short as two seconds and as long as four minutes. 1) With the phone in standby , press and hold [memo] . Y ou hear an announcement "Record memo message" and a tone. [ ] ashes on the message counter .

46 T urn on the Answering Machine Remotely If you have forgotten to turn on your answering machine, you can turn it on remotely from any touch-tone telephone. 1) Call your telephone number . 2) W ait 15 rings until the system answers. Y ou hear intermittent beeps.

49 T alk and Standby Times With average use, your handset battery provides approximately 6 hours of talk time and approximately 12 days (XS1455) or 6 days (XS1455+1) of standby time. When your handset is not being used and is left off of the charging cradle the battery will gradually discharge.
50 Battery replacement and handling Recharge your phone on a regular basis by returning the handset to either cradle after each phone call. When the operating time becomes short even after a battery is recharged, please replace the battery . With normal usage, your battery should last about one year .
51 T roubleshooting T raveling Out-of-Range During a call, as you begin to move your handset too far from your base unit, noise increases. If you pass the range limits of the base, your call will terminate within one minute. Common Issues If your phone is not performing to your expectations, please try these simple steps rst.
52 Symptom Suggestion Can’t make or receive calls. • Re-register both handsets (see page 1 3). • Check both ends of telephone cord. • Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the base and wall outlet. • Disconnect the AC adapter for a few minutes, then reconnect it.
53 Symptom Suggestion The Caller ID does not display . • The call was answered before the second ring. • The call was placed through a switchboard. • Charge the handset. • Y our Caller ID service may not be active; contact your local telephone service provider .
54 Symptom Suggestion Messages are incomplete. • The incoming messages may be too long. Remind callers to leave a brief message. • The memory may be full. Delete some or all of the saved messages. After a power failure, the outgoing message is deleted.
55 Liquid Damage Moisture and liquid can damage your cordless phone. • If the handset or base is exposed to moisture or liquid, but only the exterior plastic housing is affected, wipe off the liquid, and use as normal. • If moisture or liquid has entered the plastic housing (i.
