1 Safety precautions 6 1.3 Appliance-specific safety precautions • WARNING: If the surface is cracked, switch the appliance off and di sconnect it from the mains to avoid possible electric shock. • WARNING: The appliance and its accessible parts get hot during use.
1 Safety precautions 7 • WAR NING: It can be da ngerous to leave the hob unattended when cook ing with fat or oil, as this can lead to fires. NEVER attempt to extinguish a fire with wa ter. Instead, switch the appliance off and then carefully smother the flames with a lid or a fire blanket.

1 Safety precautions 10 1.6 Disposal Packaging Disconnection ➤ Pull the plug out of the ma ins socket or have th e appliance disconnected from the mains supp ly by an electrician. The n cut off the mains ca ble. ➤ Disable the applianc e after discon necting it.
11 2 Using for the first time • The appliance must be installed and connecte d to the mains supply in accordance with the separate install a tion instructions. Have a qualified fitter/electrician carry out the necessary work. • A cooking zone can give off an unpleasant smell during the firs t few hours of use.

3 Your appliance 15 3.3 How induction hobs function Induction hobs work very d ifferently from conventional hobs or h ot plates. The induction coils under the glass ceramic plate produce a rapidly changing magnetic field which dir ectly heats up the magnetic base of the cookware.
3 Your appliance 16 3.5 Cookware Suitable cook ware Only cookware with a magnetic base is suitable for use with the induction hob. This can be tested in the following ways: • A magnet sticks anywh ere on the base of the cookware. • On the hob, the power level set illuminates and not .
3 Your appliance 17 Noise during cooking Cookware can make noise during cook ing. This does not indicate any malfunction, nor does it af fect the functioning of the appliance in any way. Noise depends on the cookware us ed. If the noise causes consid- erable disturbance, it can h elp to change the cookware.
18 4U s e The individual cookin g zones are all op erated in the same way. When the appliance is switched off, all the displays are dark (stand-by mode), except for the residual heat indicator shou ld any cooking zone still be hot.
4 Use 19 4.3 Overview of power levels 4.4 Switching a cooking zone off ➤ Press the touch button for the requ ired cooking zone repeatedly until illuminates in the corresponding display. – If no other entry is ma de and the other cooking zones are switched off, the appliance switches off automatical ly after 10 seconds.
4 Use 20 4.7 PowerPlus All the cookin g zones are equipped with the PowerPlus booster. When PowerPlus is switched on, the cooking zone sele cted works at extra high power for 10 minutes. PowerPlus can be used, for instance, to heat a large quantity of water quickly.
4 Use 21 Power management GK36TI, GK36TIC, GK36TIF PowerP lus cannot b e used w ith cooking zones 1 and 2 at the same time. I f PowerPlus is activa ted with both cook ing zones , then the power output is reduced for the cooking zone that was first selected.
4 Use 22 GK46TI, GK46TIC, GK46TIF, GK46TIU PowerPlus cannot be used with bo th cooking zones of a group ( A or B ) at the same time. If PowerPlus is activate d with both cooking zones of a group, then the power output is reduced for t he coo king zone that was first sele cted.
4 Use 23 4.8 Automatic boost All the cooking zones are equipped wi th a selecta ble automatic boost. With this function, a cooking zone works at power level 9 for a certain length of time (see table). Then it automatically goes back to the power le vel set.
4 Use 24 4.9 Operating time With the operating time function, the co oking zone switches off automatically after a set time (1–99 minutes). This function cannot be used at the same time with se veral cooking zones. Setting the operating t ime ➤ Select the required cooking zone.

4 Use 26 4.10 Timer The timer functions like an egg timer (1 –99 minutes). It can only be used if no operating time has been set. Setting the timer ➤ Switch the appliance on. ➤ Using the or touch button for the operating time/timer, set the required duration of the timer.
4 Use 27 4.11 Childproof lock The childproof lock is to prevent the a ppliance from being accidentally switched on. Switching th e childproof l ock on ➤ Switch the appliance on. Ensure all cooking zones are switched off. ➤ Hold the and touch buttons depressed at the same time for about 2 seconds.
4 Use 28 4.12 Pause cooking With this function, all cooking zones th at are switched on can be temporaril y changed to power level for up to 10 minutes. The appliance can continue to be operated after p ause cooking using the previous settings. ➤ Press the touch button.
4 Use 29 4.13 Acoustic signal An acoustic signal is emitted as conf irmation whenever a touch butto n is pressed (factory setting). This acou stic signal can be switched off. Switchin g the acoustic si gnal on ➤ Switch the appliance on. ➤ Hold the touch button depressed for about 3 seconds.
30 5 Care and maintenance 5.1 Cleaning Always clean the hob after use. This prevents food resid ues from burning on. Dried-on or burned-on food residue is harder to clean off. Use of improper cleaning te chniques can result in damage to the marki ngs or surface.
