S TEP 2: C ONNECTING THE S CANNER 7 2. Plug the USB cable on the back of your scanner into any USB port on your computer . The USB symbol identifies the lo cation of the USB port on your computer . If the plug does not attach easily , make sure that you ar e plugging it in correctly .

S TEP 3: C HECKING O UT Y OUR S CA NNER 9 Y our scanner is ready to scan. See “Three W ays to Scan ” on page 11. I F THE S CANNER I S N OT P ROPERLY C ONNECTED If the scanner icon on the Wi ndow s taskbar has a red “X” thr ough it, the scanner is not properly connected.

U sing the Configuration dialog box, y ou can mo dify the button sett ings to meet your specific needs.

20 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 6600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION AND U SER G UIDE C REATING N EW C ONF IGURATIONS There ar e some preset configurations , such as brightness and contrast, that you cannot change. These pr eset configurations are found in the Select Configur ation details for each configuration option.

F or example, if you put a photo in the middle of the glass, the scanner will automatically determine the size of the phot o.
S CANNING FROM THE B UTTON P ANEL ON THE S CREEN 23 A DJUSTING S CAN S ETTINGS AND P AGE S ETTINGS When scanning usi n g a configurat ion you created yourself, you can adjust that configuration ’ s scan setti ngs and page settings. F or example, if the scanned image is too dar k, you can adjust the brightness of the scan setting.
24 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 6600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION AND U SER G UIDE 3. Click the Edit button. The Edit Scan Configuration dialog box opens. 4. On the Scan S ettings tab, adjust the scan sett ings as requir ed. 5. Click the P age Settings tab to adjust the scan page settings.
S CANNING FROM THE B UTTON P ANEL ON THE S CREEN 25 S ETTING P REFERENCES The prefer ences options apply to each button and to the scanner . T o set prefer ences: 1. On the Configuration dialog bo x, select the tab for a button to set its prefer ences.

S CANNING FROM THE B UTTON P ANEL ON THE S CREEN 27 Scanner Lamp turns off —These options control when the scanner lamp powers goes off . After idling for xx minutes —Select this option t o automatically turn off the lamp if the scanne r hasn ’ t been used for the specified time.

This is particularly helpful when you are using P aperP or t to file and save y our scanned items.

If the PaperP ort sof tware is not runni ng, double-click the PaperP ort icon on the Window s desktop to start it.

S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 31 7. Check the preview image. I f you wa nt to change the sca nner setting for the item, click one of the options in the Scan P age F or list. F or example, to scan a black and white image instead of a color photo, select Black & Wh ite Photo in the list.

34 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 6600 S CANNER I NSTALLATION AND U SER G UIDE Selecting the pr oper scanner setting be for e scanning produces the best results for a scanned item. The scanne r setting determines the resolution of the item and the number of possible shades of gray or color .
S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 35 Siz e —The page size for the image. If you want to us e one of the preset sizes, click the dr op-down arr ow and se lect t he size from the list. If you want to create a custom size, click in the pictur e window and drag the mouse.

A DJUSTING THE B RIGHTNESS AND C ONTRAST Sometimes an item is scanned with the brightness and contrast set too light or too dark.

Drag the Contrast slider to the left to decrease the contrast or to the right to increase the contrast.
