3-1 Chapter 3 PROGRA MMING Introduction An IEEE 488.2 prog ram in terface is prov ided. Ease of u se is ens ured by careful s election of mn emon ics. For exam ple, if carrier f requency and RF lev el are to be set to 2.54 MHz and -27.3 dBm respectively, the VXI instru ction message is: CFRQ :VAL UE 2.

3-3 Program data Data can take m any forms, as f ollows: Decimal Nu meric Data is a f lexible nu meric f ormat w hich encom passes integ er, fixed point and floating point (m antissa and exponen t) representations. Data is rounded to a resolution appropr iate to the function.

3-6 Carrier frequency These comm ands en able you to s et the carrier fr equency in the range 9 kHz to 2 .4 GHz t o a resolution of 1 Hz. You can adjust the frequen cy in steps by setting the size of th e step and then stepp ing the freq uency up o r d own.
3-7 RF lev el These com man ds enable y ou to s et the R F level i n the ran ge -137 t o +25 dBm to a resol ution of 0.1 dB. You can adjust th e level in steps by settin g the si ze of the step an d then st epping the lev el up or down.

3-20 Memory -recall There are three types of recall: carrier, f ull and RAM. Both carrier and fu ll stores are non-volatile. The contents of the RA M store are lost w hen the instru men t is sw itched of f.
