If a diff erent type of conv er ter or pow er adapter are used, Cintiq will not work properly or may be damaged. Using a different type of con verter or power adapter also has the potential to result in fire.

Installation Page 11 INSTALLATION SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Bef ore installing Cintiq, be sure your computer meets the f ollowing minim um system requirements: • PC. Windo ws Vista ™ , Vista x64, XP , XP x64, or 2000. D VI or V GA video connector , a vailab le USB por t, and CD-ROM driv e.
Installation Page 12 STEP 1: DISPLAY INSTALLATION In this step , Cintiq is installed as a displa y on your system. Important: Do not connect the USB data cable until instructed to do so .

If you want Cintiq to be identified as a Cintiq displa y and if you w ant to install the color calibration profile f or Cintiq, f ollow the instructions below to update the displa y driver f or Cintiq: 1.
Installation Page 15 F or Macintosh systems, a Cintiq color profile will be added to y our computer’ s color management system during the tablet software driv er installation process. T o activate this color profile f or use with Cintiq, you ma y need to select the Cintiq 12WX profile in the system’ s ColorSync Utility control panel.
Installation Page 16 STEP 2: PEN TABLET INSTALLATION USB CABLE INSTALLATION • First plug the USB cable into the USB connector located on the con v er ter unit. • Plug the other end of the cable into an a v ailable USB por t on y our computer or into a USB hub .
Installation Page 17 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION IMPORT ANT : Y ou MUST install the W acom pen tab let driver software f or correct pen-on-screen functionality . T o install the tablet software: • Sav e y our work and close all open applications. T emporarily disable any virus protection programs .
Working with your Cintiq Page 18 WORKING WITH YOUR CINTIQ USING THE GRIP P EN The pen is cordless, battery-free, and sensitiv e to the tilt and pressure you e x er t upon it.
Working with your Cintiq Page 19 BASIC PEN OPERATIONS P ointing and selecting: Move the pen slightly abo v e the Cintiq display screen to position the screen cursor ; you do not need to touch the tablet surf ace. The cursor jumps to the location where you place the pen.

Working with your Cintiq Page 21 T ABLET CONTR OLS The customizable ExpressK eys and T ouch Strips enable you to speed up man y common tasks in graphics or other applications . While using the pen with y our dominant hand, y ou can simultaneously use your other hand to oper ate the ExpressK eys or T ouch Strip .
Working with your Cintiq Page 22 USING THE EXPRESSKE YS As you w ork with your pen on the displa y tablet surf ace, press an ExpressK ey to toggle between tools or change tool proper ties. Y ou can work with the default settings , or choose from any of the other av ailab le functions.
Working with your Cintiq Page 23 USING THE T OUCH STRIPS The customizable T ouch Strips can be operated in se ver al diff erent wa ys: • Standard operation: Slide your finger up or do wn to zoom, scroll, or issue the assigned function. Y ou can do this with your secondary hand while using your primar y hand to work with the Grip P en.
Working with your Cintiq Page 24 SETTING UP Y OUR W ORK AREA T o minimize f atigue, organize y our work area so you can w ork comfor tab ly . P osition Cintiq, the Gr ip P en, and y our ke yboard so they are easily accessib le without unnecessary reaching.
Working with your Cintiq Page 25 ADJUSTING DISPLAY INC LINE • T o open the display stand, locate and slide the stand latch to release the stand. Unfold the stand from the pen displa y casing. • T o close the stand, gently fold the stand back into the closed position until the latch catches the stand.
Working with your Cintiq Page 26 ROTATING THE TABLET When the pen displa y stand is in the closed position, the unit can be rotated. As you work, position Cintiq by the main body; it will mov e on the rotation pivot.
Customizing Page 27 CUSTOMIZING After you master the basics of using y our Grip P en on the Cintiq pen displa y , you ma y want to customize the w ay the pen or pen displa y wor ks . The W acom T ablet control panel mak es it easy to customize Cintiq and the pen.

Customizing Page 29 CALIBRATING CINTIQ Y ou must calibrate the pen displa y tab let in order to align the screen cursor with the position of the pen on the displa y screen. This is required to adjust for par allax caused by the displa y screen cov er glass and coating.
Customizing Page 30 ADJUSTING THE DISPLA Y FACTORY PRESETS, AUTO-SYNC, AND COLOR CALIBRATION Factory presets: For optimal displa y quality , set y our video card to Cintiq’ s nativ e resolution of 1280 x 800 pix els (WXGA). See page 56 for signal specifications.
Customizing Page 31 ON SCREEN DISPLAY (OSD) SETTINGS The Cintiq OSD function enables y ou to adjust and optimize a v ariety of display settings at the touch of a button. 2. Selection buttons Use the up or down b uttons to toggle between menu options, and to increase or decrease the v alue of a selected setting.
Customizing Page 32 The basic process f or working with the OSD is as follo ws: • Press the M ENU button to open the OSD main menu. • Press the up or down buttons to toggle betw een the main menu icons . Then press the E NTER button to choose the highlighted icon.
Customizing Page 33 When you open the On Screen Displa y , the main menu icons are displa y ed. Language. Allows y ou to choose the language in which the OSD menu will be displa yed. D ISPLAY menu options are as f ollows: •B RIGHTNESS . Increases or decreases the image brightness.
Customizing Page 34 C OLOR menu options are as f ollows: •T EMPERATURE . Enables y ou to adjust the pen display color temperature. Provides color temperature settings f or 6500˚ and 9300˚ K elvin, as well as D IRECT and C USTOM options. •D IRECT displa ys the colors directly from the video card without any adjustment.
Customizing Page 35 ADJUSTING CLOC K AND PHASE (V GA ONLY) Some computers and video cards ma y not allow the auto-sync function to fully work when Cintiq is first connected. If some por tion of text appears b lurred, open the OSD menu, go to the VGA I MAGE men u, and select A UTO A DJUST .
Troubleshooting Page 36 TROUBLESHOOTING Most of the time your pen displa y tab let will work flawlessly . But if you are ha ving trouble , W acom recommends you do the f ollo wing: 1. If the W acom tab let driver f ailed to load properly , first perform the recommended action in any error message that ma y appear on your screen.
Troubleshooting Page 37 2. If there is no display: • Make sure that y our computer is turned on. The power LED will light blue when the proper video signal is receiv ed, and orange if there is no video signal or if the computer is in a power saving mode .
Troubleshooting Page 38 T ESTING CONTROLS AND INPUT TOOLS If the Grip P en, or the Cintiq ExpressK eys or T ouch Str ips do not work as you e xpect, it is a good idea to first check the assigned functions or reset them to their def ault conditions .
Troubleshooting Page 39 T ESTING A PEN 1. While obser ving the P OINTING D EVICE I NFO column, bring your pen within 5 mm (0.2 inch) of the displa y screen. A value f or P ROXIMITY , the D EVICE N AME , D EVICE T YPE , and a D EVICE S/N (serial number) should be displa yed.
Troubleshooting Page 40 DISPLA Y TROUB LESHOOTING If you encounter prob lems with the Cintiq displa y , see the follo wing tables; your prob lem ma y be described here and you can try the solution offered. For more inf ormation about color issues, see the documentation that came with your oper ating system or applications.
Troubleshooting Page 41 An “inv alid mode” message briefly appears on your displa y screen. • The input signal frequency is incorrectly set or not compatible with Cintiq. Set the refresh rate (vertical frequency) to 60 Hz (or between 50 and 75 Hz if y ou are using a resolution of less than 1280 x 800 pix els).
Troubleshooting Page 42 V GA PROBLEMS The displa y ripples or flickers . • Open the OSD menu, go to the I MAGE menu, and select the A UTO A DJUST option. If necessar y , manually adjust the clock and phase settings. • V er ify that the displa y adapter or video card matches the specifications f or Cintiq.

Troubleshooting Page 44 Double-clic king is difficult. Be sure you are quic kly tapping the displa y screen twice in the same place on the pen displa y tablet’ s active area. W acom recommends using the side s witch to double-clic k. Open the W acom T ablet control panel and go to the P EN tab .
Troubleshooting Page 45 The pen side s witch does not work. Be sure you are using the pen that originally came with y our pen displa y tablet, or an Intuos3 pen. Other pens ma y not function properly . Be sure you press the side s witch when the pen tip is within 5 mm (0.
Troubleshooting Page 46 The line you are dr awing does not line up with the location of the screen cursor in paint applications. T o function proper ly , some applications require that the pen is set to P EN mode. Make sure the pen has not been toggled to M OUSE mode .

Appendix Page 50 APPENDIX CARING F OR CINTIQ K eep the Grip P en and your Cintiq LCD screen surf ace clean. Dust and dir t par ticles can stick to the pen and cause e xcessive w ear to the display screen surf ace. Regular cleaning will help to prolong the lif e of your LCD screen surf ace and pen.
Appendix Page 51 REPLACING THE PEN TIP The pen tip (nib) will wear with normal use. Excessive pressure will cause the nib to wear sooner . When the nib gets too shor t or de velops a sharp edge, replace it with one of the e xtra nibs that came with the pen.
