F or the bes t r esults, please read this manual through carefully as it is your guide thr ough the control menus and operation.

13 Positioning your projector English O btaining a pr eferred pr ojected image size The distance from the pr ojector lens to the screen, th e zoom setting, and the video format each factors in the projected image size. 4:3 is the native aspect ratio of this projector .
14 Positioning your projector English Ho w to determine the position of th e projector for a give n screen size 1. Se lect your screen size . 2. Re fer to the table and find the closest match to y our screen size in the left columns labelled "4:3 screen diagonal" .

17 Connection English Connecting a mo nitor If you want t o view your presentation close-up on a moni tor as well as on the scr een, you can connect the D-SU B OUT sig nal ou tput so ck et o n the proj ector to an extern al moni tor wit h a V G A or V GA to DVI -A cable by following the instructions below .
18 Connection English Connecting Video sour ce dev ic es This section describes how to connect the pr ojector to V ideo source devi c es using video cables.
19 Connection English Connecting a HDMI sourc e dev ice The project or pro vides a HDMI input so c ket that allows you to c onnect it to a HDMI so urc e dev ice lik e a DVD play er , a DT V tuner or a display .
20 Connection English Connecting a D VI-D sourc e device The project or pro vides a DVI-D input sock et that allows yo u to connect it to a DVI-D sour ce device lik e a DVD play er . DVI- D format is used to directl y carry a digital signal to a digital display without signal conv ersion.
21 Connection English Connecting a Component V ideo source device Examine your V ideo source device to determine if it has a set of unused Component Vid eo output sockets available: • If so , you can co ntinue with this procedur e. • If not, you will need to reassess which method you can use t o connect to the device.
22 Connection English Connecting an S-Video or a composite V ideo source device Examine your V ideo source device to determine if it has an unused S-Video or V ideo output socket available: • If it has both sock ets, use the S-V i deo output socket for connection as the S-Video terminal pro vides better picture quality than the Video te rminal.
23 Operation English Operation Star ting up the pr ojector 1. Plug the po wer cor d into th e projector and i nto a wall sock et. T ur n on the wall socket switch (where fitted). 2. Pr ess Power on t he projec tor or remote con trol to sta rt th e projector .
24 Operation English U sing the On-Screen Displa y (OSD) menus The projector is equipped with On-Screen Displa y (O SD) menus for making various adjustments and settings. Below is the ov er view of the OSD menu. T o use the OSD menus, please set the OSD menu to your familiar language fi rst.
25 Operation English U tilizing the password function For security purposes and to help prevent unauthorized use, the pr ojector includes an option for setting up password security .
26 Operation English Entering the password r ecall procedure Pres s a nd h old AUTO on the projector or remot e contr ol for 3 seconds. The project or will display a coded n umber on the screen. W r ite d own the number and tu rn off your pr ojector .
27 Operation English S witching input sig nal The project or can be con nected to multiple devices at the same time. H owever , it can only display one full screen at a time. Whe n starting up , the projector au tomatically search for the available signals.
28 Operation English Ad ju s t i ng t h e pr oj e c te d i m a ge A djusting the projection angle The project or is equipped with 4 adjuster feet. These adjuste rs change the picture height and pr ojection angle.

30 Operation English Selectin g the a spect ratio The 'aspect ratio' is the r atio of the image width to th e image height. M ost analog TV and computers ar e in 4:3 ratio, and digital TV and DVDs are usually in 16:9 ratio .
31 Operation English Optimizing the i mage Us i n g W a l l C o l o r In the situation where y ou are pr ojecting onto a color ed surface such as a painted wall which may not be whit e, the W a ll Co lor feature can help correct the pr ojected picture’ s color t o prevent possible c olor differenc e between the source and projected pictures.
32 Operation English Setting the User 1/User 2 mode There ar e two user -definable modes if the current a vailabl e picture mod es are not suitable for y our need. Y ou can use one of the pictur e modes (ex cept the User 1/2 ) as a starting p oint and customize the settings.
33 Operation English A djusting Brilliant Color Hi ghligh t Brilliant Color in th e PICTURE menu and select b y pressing / on the projector or remote contro l. This feature utilizes a new co lor-pr oc essing algor ithm and system l evel enhancements to enabl e higher br ightn ess while providing truer , more vibrant colors in picture.
34 Operation English Please refer t o the illustration to the rig ht for ho w the colors rela te to ea ch othe r . For e xample, if you select R ed and set its range at 0, only pur e red in the pr ojected picture wil l be select ed. Increasing its range will include red close to y ellow and red close t o magenta.

36 Operation English Hid ing the imag e In order to draw the audience's full attention to the presenter , you can use BLANK o n th e p roj ec tor or rem ote co nt rol to h ide th e s cre en im age . The wor d ' BLANK ' appears in the corner of the scr een while the image is hidden.
37 Operation English Locking control k e ys W ith the control k eys on the projector lock ed, you ca n prev ent your projector settings from being changed accidentally (by children, f or example). W hen the Panel Key Lock is on, no co ntrol keys on the pr ojector will opera te ex cept Power .
38 Operation English Cr eating y our own star tup screen In addition to selecting the project or preset startup sc r een from among BenQ logo , Black or Blue screen, y ou can make y our own star tup scr een that is a picture projected from y our computer or video source.
39 Operation English Setting the lamp mode This projector is capable of dual-lamp projection an d pr ovides three lamp modes for differe nt purposes: Y ou can perform the following steps t o choose a lamp mode acc ording to your prefe rence. 1. Pr ess MENU/EXIT and then press / until the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced men u is highl ight ed.
40 Operation English Shutting down the projector 1. Pr ess Po we r and a confirmation message displa ys prompting yo u. If yo u don't respond in a few sec onds, the message wil l disappear . If you want to cancel the message, press any k ey exc ept PAGE / a n d LASER on the remote con trol.
41 Operation English On-Screen Displa y (OSD) M enus Me nu s t r u c t ur e Please note that the on-screen displa y (OSD) menus vary according t o the signal ty pe select ed. Some functions are a vailable only when certain input signals are in use. The menu items are a vailable when the projector d etects at least one valid sig nal.
42 Operation English The default values listed in this man ual, especially on pages 43 - 45 , are for refe rence only . They may vary from the projectors due t o the continuous impro vement to the produ cts.

46 Maintenance English M aintenanc e Care of the pr ojec t or Y our project or needs little mainten ance. The only thing y ou n eed to do on a regular basis is to keep the lens clean . Nev er remov e an y par ts of the projector e xc ept the lamp. Contact your dealer if other parts need replacing.
47 Maintenance English Extending lamp life The projection lamp is a consumable it em that norma lly can last up to 2000-3000 hours with proper usage. T o keep the lamp life as long as possible, y ou can do the following settings via the OSD menus.
48 Maintenance English Re pl a ci n g t h e l a m p • T o reduce the risk of electrica l shock, always turn the projector off and disconnect the power cord before changing the l amp. • T o reduce the risk of severe b urns, allow the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes befo re replacing the lamp.
49 Maintenance English 7. Lift the handle so that it stands up. U se the handle to slowly pull the lamp out of the projector . Pulling it too quickly may cause the lamp to break and scatter broken glass in th e projector . Do not place the lamp in loca tions where water might splash on it, ch ildren can reach it, or near flammable materials.
