6 If the scanner is not on, switch it on. 7 Click Restart. 4 Drag the copy of the Apple Color OneScanner plug-in icon to the folder suggested by the user’s manual for your graphics application. 5 When the plug-in icon is where you want it, delete the word “copy” and the space before the word. 6 If the user’s manual for your application suggests a restart, restart your computer.

3 Click Scan. Th e App le C olor OneS canner dial og bo x op ens . IMPORTANT If y ou ha v e a Po werB ook and cannot see the c ontro ls at t he bott om of t he dial og bo x, y ou must c hang e the setting in y our Monitors contr ol panel. Op en the contr ol panel , c lic k Opti ons , and choose 6 40 x 4 0 0 .
Destination Choose a de stination f or the imag e . T h e dest ination y ou sp ecify i s used t o determi ne the res oluti on at whi ch t h e sc a nn er will sc a n the ima ge .
6 Drag to select the area you want. A marquee (dashed lin e) sur rounds the selec ted area. T he I ma ge Inf o area c ha ng es t o re flect t h e s ize of the selec ti on. Imag e hei ght, wi d th, and size c ha ng e dep endi ng on t h e select ion y ou mak e .
9 Click Scan. Th e sc a nn er sc a ns the ori gi nal. When the scan i s complete , the imag e app ears i n a new document. Th e document is named Ima ge1 . S ubsequent scans in the same se ss ion are nam ed Imag e2 , Imag e3 , a nd so on. Eac h dot on the sc a nn ed ima ge c or re sponds to a p ixe l on the computer screen.

5 Choose an image format from the File Format pop-up menu. PICT (def ault sett i ng): A wi del y used f or mat that i s compati ble with m ost Mac i ntosh app lic ati ons (use s Co lorS ync) . JPEG J oint Photo graphic Ex p er ts Group , a f or mat that c ompres ses f iles and lets y ou choose c ompres s ion v ers us quality .

5 Click Fax or Copy. P ri nti n g (C op y): T h e Pri nt dial og bo x op ens . S pecify the number of c opie s y ou w a nt , set a n y other options , a nd c lic k Pri nt. Th e ori gi nal is sc ann ed a nd sent t o y our f ax app lic ation or currentl y c hosen pri nter .
T o op en a sa v ed ima ge: 1 If necessary, start the OneScanner Dispatcher application to open the Dispatcher window. 2 Click Archive. A di alo g bo x op ens . 3 Select the name of the folder you want. 4 Click Select “folder name” (the large button at the bottom of the window).
R en a m i ng a sa v ed i ma ge i n a n ar ch i v e T o rename a n imag e that i s op en: 1 Choose Save As from the File menu. 2 In the dialog box that appears, give the image a new name. T o rename a n imag e in the Finder des kt op 1 Click the icon to select the image and its name.
3 Drag the thumbnail from the archive onto the Print or Fax icon. Faxing If thi s is y our first f ax , a dial og bo x as ks y ou to f i nd y our f ax dri v er . (F or i nstr ucti ons , see “ A ss i gni ng a F ax App lic ati on to t h e Dispatc h er , ” earlier in this c hapter .

4 Click Tone. Th e T one dial og bo x app ears . 5 Drag to select the portion of the preview you want to use as a sample for brightness and contrast. 8 To return to the Apple Color OneScanner dialog box, click Apply. If y ou w a nt t o retur n the ima ge t o its ori gi nal state , c lic k R ev er t. 9 When the settings are the way you want them, click Scan. Th e ima ge i s scanned us i ng the sett ing s y ou chose .

3 Open the folder that contains your saved images. Th e first ima g e is aut omatic all y selec ted. A pre v iew appears on the lef t to help y ou ident ify the imag e . Selec ting another ima ge nam e cha nges t h e pre v ie w . 4 To open the image document, double-click an image name.

Ad din g tex t T o typ e som e text in the ima ge: 1 Click the text tool. 2 Click the part of the image where you want to add text. 3 In the dialog box that appears, type the text you want. Y ou can als o use t h e dial o g box t o choose the f ont y ou w a nt , its size , sty le , and co lor .

P a i n t i ng w i th b ru shes T o pai nt with strok e s o f v ariou s size s: 1 Select the brush. 2 Click one of the brush sizes on the brush palette. 3 Drag the brush to paint in the foreground color. Cloni n g A c lone is a dup lic ate of a small par t of an ima ge .
2 Press the Option key and then click the spot you want to serve as a reference point for the clone. In the ex ample , y ou ’ d c lic k a point in the shr ubb ery . 3 Move the clone tool over the point at which you want the image to begin repeating, then start dragging.

C u t tin g T o cut a select ion from an ima ge: 1 Select the area you want to cut. 2 To store a temporary copy of what you cut on the Clipboard, choose Cut from the Edit menu (or press x –X). 3 To remove the selection without storing a temporary copy of it, press the Delete key.

Sharp eni ng an image Y ou ma y noti ce that the ed ge s of an ima ge are s of ter than y ou w ant them to be . Or , y ou ma y w ant to s of ten ed g es that l ook too shar p . T o shar p en a n imag e: m Choose a command from the Sharpen submenu in the Image menu.
Amount Th e amount determi nes w hat p ercenta ge o f chang e will occur . T h e def ault sett i ng i s 50 percent. I ncrease up t o 1 0 0; decrease do wn t o 1 . A higher percentag e make s the ef fec t stron ger . Radius Th e radius determi n es the depth o f pix el s that are a ff ected at t h e edg e y ou ’ re changin g .
Resizi ng an i m age Y ou can set a specif ic s ize f or a n imag e . T o res ize: 1 Open the image and choose Resize from the Image menu. Th e R e size di alo g bo x op ens . 2 Choose the units you want to use from the Units pop-up menu. 3 Type the new size and click OK.
Croppi ng an i m age Y ou can selec t a n area of an ima ge and then eliminate the s ur r ounding area. T o crop an imag e: 1 Select the area you want to remain in the image. 2 Choose Crop from the Image menu. Th e area around t h e select ion i s deleted.
