PREPARATION 2 This product consists of the follo wing part s. Before connecting speak ers or a TV to this product, make sure you recei ved all of the following par ts.
3 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION ■ Front panel 1 ST ANDBY/ON T urn this unit on or set it to the standby mode. y While the unit is in the standby mode, the unit consumes a small amount of power . 2 CINEMA DSP buttons Select CINEMA DSP programs. (page 13) 3 CINEMA DSP indicator Lights up the icon for the CINEMA DSP program currently selected.
4 PREPARATION ■ Remote control Y ou can control both the A V amplifier (A VC-S30) and D VD player (D VD-S30) with the supplied remote control. Read the follow ing for the function of each bu tton. (The b uttons shaded in the illust ration belo w are used to control the D VD- S30.
5 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION G SUBTITLE Selects the subtitle languag e of the D VD video while operating the D VD-S30. H A UDIO Selects the audio language of the D V D video or the audio channel setti ng of the VCD a nd SVCD while operating th e D VD-S30.
6 PREPARATION To enjoy quality sounds thoroughly, you need to place the sp eakers in their appropriate positions and install them correctly. After deciding the speake r layout, follow the procedure below to install the speakers. Satellite speakers (L, R) (NX-S30) Place the left/right speakers on both sides of your TV at equal distances.
7 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION ■ Placing the Satellite Speakers Y ou can place the satellite speak ers on a ra ck, or attach them to a w all. Please se lect an installation method that suits your room layout.
8 PREPARATION Follo w the procedure belo w to connect the sate llite speakers (NX-S30) and subw oof er (NX-SW30) to the A V amplifier (A VC-S30). • Do not connect the power cables of the A V amplifier and subwoofer until all cable connections are completed.
9 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION The A V amplifier “A VC-S30” has four input jacks (optical digital x 2, coaxial digital x 1, an alog x 1). Before connecting your external components to the A V am plifier , check the output jacks of the components and be su re to use correct connection cables.
10 PREPARATION ■ Analog connection Do not connect the power cables of the A V amplifier and external components un til all cable connections are complete d. 11 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION Use the remot e control within 6 m (20 feet) of the A V amplifier and point it to ward the remote control sensor . • Be careful not to spill liquid on the remote control.
OPERATION 12 Once you ha ve fi nished all cable connections (pages 8-10) and remote co ntrol preparation (page 11), follow the procedure belo w to start from basic playback operation. 1 Press ST ANDBY/ON ( ). This unit turns on and the indicators on the front panel light up.
OPERATION 13 OPERA TION The sound program features allo w you to enjoy v arious kinds of audio such as mo vie or musi c. Please choose a program based on your listening preference, and no t purely on the name of the program. y This unit automatically memorizes the settings assigned to each input (1 to 4).
OPERATION 14 Y ou can enjoy the presence of sound ef fects ev en wh en you use headphones or reduce the volume le vel. ■ Listening with headphones (“SILENT CINEMA”) “SILENT CINEMA” allows you to enjoy multi-speaker simulation sounds with headphones.
CONFIGURATIONS 15 CONFIGURA TIONS The initial speaker setti ngs are suitable fo r most conditions. Howe ver , depending on room c onditions or listening position, you may need to adjust the speake r balance manually . In this case, adjust the speaker ba lance using test tones at fir st .
CONFIGURATIONS 16 ■ Adjusting the speaker balance during playbac k If you feel the speaker balance is not proper during playback, follo w the procedure belo w . During playback, carry out the following operation for your purpose . T o adjust the v olume level of the center speaker channel : While holding down SHIFT, press CENTER +/–.
CONFIGURATIONS 17 CONFIGURA TIONS 3 While the Status indicat or is blinking, press L repeatedly to select an orientation of the virtual left surround speaker , or press R repeatedly to select an orientation of the virtual right surround speaker . Each time you press the button, the orientation changes as follo ws.

5 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION H A UDIO Selects the audio language of the D V D video or the audio channel setting of the video CD and super video CD. (page 15) I SHIFT While holding down SHIFT, press a b utton below to enable the corresponding operation.
6 PREPARATION This section explains ho w to connect th e D VD-S30 to your TV or external A V amplif ier (A VC-S30 etc. ). For connections related to e xternal A V amplifie r, refe r to the manual for it. Connect the power cord of the DVD pl ayer or external components after connection of all cables ar e complete.
7 PREPARATION PREP ARA T ION Use the remote control within 6 m (20 feet) of the D VD player and point it to ward the remote control sen sor . • Be car eful not to spill liquid on the remote control.
OPERATION 8 Before starting playback operation, follo w the pr ocedure below to set up the D VD player settings. ■ Step 1: T urni ng on the power 1 T urn on the TV and A V amplifier (A VC-S30 etc.), and then press ST ANDBY/ON (D VD) to turn on the D VD player (D VD-S30).
OPERATION 9 OPERA TION 4 Press or to select “OK”, and then press ENTER. Repeat step 4 in the re-conf irmation screen. y T o return to the previous menu, press . T o close the Setup menu, press SETUP. • When using a wide-scr een TV , set “TV DISPLA Y” in “VIDEO SETUP P A GE” to “16:9”.
OPERATION 10 Y ou can enjoy movie or music discs with this unit. Since some disc operation s are limited to specific disc types, the supported disc types are indicated u sing the icons shown belo w . Each icon means that the operation is limited to the corresponding disc type.
OPERATION 11 OPERA TION Follo w the procedures belo w to carr y out basic disc pl ayback operations. • I f the inhibit icon ( or ) appears on the TV when a button is pressed, it means the function is not av ailable on the current disc or the current status.
OPERATION 12 Y ou can repeat single chapter (track) , single title, or entire disc . Also, you can set two points to rep eat the specified section of a title (track) with A-B Repeat. • Repeat Play may not work depending on D VD disc types. • T he Shuffle feature is not av ailable for DVD-VRs.
OPERATION 13 OPERA TION Y ou can specify an elapsed time where you want play back to start. • Using the Time Search feature for a VCD or SV CD automatically closes the Play back Control menu (page 16). • Y ou cannot specify an elapse d time that exceeds the total time.
OPERATION 14 ■ Time Searc h on CD 1 Press ON SCREEN repeatedly to select “DISC GO T O”, “TRA CK GO T O” or “SELECT TRA CK”. 2 Use the Number buttons to enter hours, minutes, and seconds (or track number if y ou select “SELECT TRA CK” in step 1).
OPERATION 15 OPERA TION 6 T o start playback wi th the Program Pla y feature, pres s , , or to select “ST ART”, and then press ENTER. y • T o cancel the Program Play feature, pres s , , or to select “Exit” in the prog ram list, then press ENTER.
OPERATION 16 Y ou can select the desired viewing angle during D VD playback. This selection is av ailable only with multi-angle compatibl e discs. Also, viewing angles av ai lable for each disc may vary . For information on your disc, ref er to the operating inst ructions in the disc’ s menu or on its jacket.
OPERATION 17 OPERA TION Y ou can set playback restricti ons for certain discs using Parental Control. Only users who kno w the password (page 18) can access the lock ed discs. ■ Setting the P arental Contr ol level Y ou can restrict playback according to a predete rmined le vel (P arental Control le vel).
OPERATION 18 T o disable a loc k applied to a disc Select “UNLOCK” in step 3. y • T o retur n to the previous menu, press . T o close the Setup menu, press SETUP.
OPERATION 19 OPERA TION y • While playing back a JPEG (Kodak) picture disc, you can zoom in or zoom out th e picture by pressing ZOOM repeatedly while holing do wn SHIFT.
OPERATION 20 Y ou can view and change the settings for the current D VD or VCD (SVCD) playback usi ng the TV (On-Screen menu). Displaying the On-Screen menu for a VCD or SVCD automa tically closes the Playba ck Control menu (page 16).
OPERATION 21 OPERA TION In the Setup menu, you ca n conf igure the various parameters or operate useful functions. F ollow the procedure belo w to operate the Setup menu. For details on each menu or av ailable param eters, refer to “Set up menu items” (page 22).
