3 INTRODUCTION 1 ST ANDBY/ON T urns this unit on or sets it to the standby mode (page 10). When this unit is in the standby mode, the Standby indicator around ST ANDBY/ON button lights up orange. The Standby mode uses a little po we r to receiv e an infrared signal from the remote control.
4 CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS 1 ST ANDBY/ON T urns this unit on, or sets it to the standb y mode (page 10). 2 Number buttons (1 to 9, 0) Use to select a track number or a preset channel after selecting CD or TUNER. 3 Input selector Use to select a source. 4 BAND In TUNER mode, use to select FM, AM or DAB.
5 INTRODUCTION 1 Press the mark on the battery cover and slide off the co ver . 2 Insert the two supplied batteries (AAA, R03, UM-4) into the ba ttery compartment. Make sure you insert the batteries according to the polarity markings (+ and –). 3 Close the battery cover .
RUNNING H/F 1 6 Follo w the procedure below to connect speak ers to this unit. For information on your speak ers, refer to the ow ner’ s manual for the speakers. • Do not connect the power cable of this unit until all cable connect ions are complet ed.
RUNNING H/F 1 7 PREP ARA TION If you connect other components such as a VCR, D VD or MD to the follo wing jacks on this unit, you can enjoy those sources with this unit. This section pr ovides some e xamples of other A V com ponent connection s. For information about connecting to your A V components, re fer to the owner’ s manual for it.
RUNNING H/F 1 8 T o enjoy the tuner on this unit, you need to connect AM, FM and D AB antennas to this unit. This product includes an AM loop antenna, Indoor FM antenna and Indoor D AB antenna.
Connecting antennas 9 PREP ARA TION 1 Connect the indoor D AB antenna to the D AB terminal. 2 Extend the cord vertically and attach it to a window frame or wall using draw ing pin etc.
TURNING THE POWER TO ON/STANDBY 10 Press ST ANDBY/ON to turn on this unit or set it to the standby mode. • When the unit is turned on, the display lights up and the standby indicator turns of f. • When the unit is in the stand by mode, the display goes out and the standby indicator turns on .
ADJUSTING THE VOLUME LEVEL 11 BAS I C OPERA TION Rotate V OLUME to the ri ght (or press V OLUME + on the remote c ontrol) to increase the v olume level and to the left (or press V OLUME – on the remote control) to decrease it.
ADJUSTING THE CLOCK 12 1 Press TIME MODE. The current time “hour” flashes on the display . 2 Rotate MUL TI JOG to sel ect the current hour , then press MUL T I JOG to set it. The current t ime “minute” flas hes on the display . 3 Rotate MUL TI JOG to se t the current minutes, then press MUL T I JOG to set it.
SETTING THE SLEEP TIMER 13 BAS I C OPERA TION If you set the sleep timer , this unit automatically turns to the standb y mode after the specif ied time. Press SLEEP on the remote control repeatedl y to set the duration for th e sleep timer (90 to 10 minutes).
ADJUSTING SOUNDS 14 Y ou can adjust follo wing sound settings: B ASS,TREBLE and B A LANCE. These settings ha ve no ef fect on the recorded sound during recording. 1 Press T ONE/B ALANCE. 2 Press MUL TI JOG repea tedly to select the setting y ou want to adjust.
LISTENING TO A CD 15 ENJO YING MUSIC DISCS Y ou can enjo y music discs (CD, CD-R and CD-R W) with this unit. For information on suppor ted disc standards and disc usage notes, refer to “Disc Information” (page 35) and “Handling a disc” (page 35).

TIME DISPLAY 20 Press TIME during pl aybac k. Each time TIME is presse d, the display changes as follow s: If you connect an other component such as VCR, TV or A UX to this unit, you can enjoy so urces played back on that component with this unit. Press SOURCE (or A UX 1 or A UX 2 on the remote control) to select ‘A UX 1’ or ‘A UX 2’.
21 ENJO YING RADIO If the radio w av e reception is strong in your area, Auto T uning is a quick and useful way to tune radio stations. 1 Press SOURCE (or TUNER on t he remote control) repeatedl y to select TUNER. 2 Press BAND to select FM or AM. 3 Press MUL TI JOG (or EN TER on the remote control) to select the “A uto tune” mode.
22 TUNING RADIO STATIONS Press FUNCTION/F M MODE to switch between the Stereo mode and Mono mode . Stereo • FM broadcasts of stereo signal ar e received in stereo. The STEREO indicator lights up i n the display . Mono • When th e FM stereo signals are week, se lect this mode to compensate for them.
23 TUNING RADIO STATIONS ENJO YING RADIO ■ Preset A utomatically (FM/ AM only) 1 Press BAND to select AM or FM. 2 Press PROGRAM/ME MOR Y for more than three seconds. “ Auto memory” flashes on the display . Up to 30 of the best received stations in your area are stored automa tically .
Receiving RADIO DATA SYSTEM 24 The Radio Data System is a transmission system for FM stations used mainly in the U.K. and Europe. The Radio Data System transmi ssions include v arious types of information such as PS (Progr am Service), PTY (Program T ype), R T (Radio T ext), and CT (Clock T ime).
25 Receiving RADIO DATA SYSTEM ENJO YING RADIO Y ou can tune into FM Radio Data System stations by selecting a program type (g enre). Once you select a program type, this unit auto matically searches for FM Radio Data System stations currently broadcasting the corresponding programs.
Receiving RADIO DATA SYSTEM 26 D AB (Digital Audio Broadcastin g), also known as digital radio, is a new wa y of ra dio broadcasting. D AB is broadcast using digital signals instead of analog signals, resulting in near CD -quality soun d. An alog signals (i.
27 DAB tuner ENJO YING RADIO If the unit is mov ed to a new area or you w ant to check if there are new D AB channels available in your area, you can perform a scan. There are two w ays to scan certain ranges. • Local scan: Use it to scan specified ranges in band III.
28 DAB tuner y • When the primary services including secondary services are broadcasting, the “SECOND AR Y” flashes on the display . • When the secondary servic es are broadcasted, the “SECOND AR Y” is displayed. Follo w the procedure below to p reset radio stations manually .
29 DAB tuner ENJO YING RADIO ■ Manual tune This option allows you to manually tune into a channel and view a con tinuously updated display of the signal strength. This is v ery useful when adjusting or positioning an antenna for better reception. 1 Press FUNCTION/FM MODE while listening to a D AB broadcast.
30 DAB tuner 4 Rotate MUL TI JOG (or press PRESET on the remote contr ol) to change between the order s. Each time MUL TI JOG is rotated (or PRESET is pressed), the mode changes as follows: 5 Press MUL TI JOG (or ENTER on the Remote contr ol).
31 DAB tuner ENJO YING RADIO Y ou can choose the in formation type displayed in the second line of the display while listening to a D AB channel. Press INFO/TEXT MODE (or INFO /TEXT on the remote control).
