E- 9 BASIC OPERATION English BASIC OPERATION B ASIC OPERA TION Playing a source 4 Start the selected input source. Refer to “ Listening to an FM broadcast ” on pages 14–18 about how to tune into a desired station. 5 Adjust the volume to the desired level.
E- 10 BASIC OPERATION Note When the PC , A UX1 or A UX2 input selector ke y is pressed , the display shows the name of the selected input source for a short while, and then shows the currently selected sound f ield program. When no sound field program is selected, “THR OUGH” is shown on the display .
E- 11 BASIC OPERATION English BASIC OPERATION Using sound field programs This unit ’ s built-in DSP (Digital Sound field Processor) can simulate v arious acoustic environments, including a concert hall and movie theater , with its sev en sound field programs .
E- 12 BASIC OPERATION First turn on the e xternal unit to be used, and then this unit. 1 Select the source to be recorded by using the input selector keys. 2 Start recording on a recording unit (an MD recorder, tape deck, etc.). 3 Start playing the input source .

E- 14 LISTENING TO AN FM BROADCAST LISTENING T O AN FM BR O ADCAST Tuning into an FM station Normally , if station signals are strong and there is no interf erence, quic k auto tuning is possible . Howe ver , if the signal of the station you w ant to select is weak or the reception condition is bad, y ou must tune in to it manually .

Press the key to search for lower frequencies and the key for higher frequencies. When a station with a strong signal is found, the search stops and the station is received.
E- 16 LISTENING TO AN FM BROADCAST Using the presets Y ou can store y our f av orite stations in the 40 presets, which are organized into fiv e groups (A – B), with eight presets in each group . A stored station can be recalled simply by selecting the preset number in which it is stored.
E- 17 LISTENING TO AN FM BROADCAST English LISTENING TO AN FM BROADCAST Recalling a preset station First turn on this unit, and then select the built-in FM tuner as the input source. 1 Press the P-SET key (front panel) or the PRESET key (remote control) to change this unit from the frequency display mode to the preset tuning mode.
E- 18 LISTENING TO AN FM BROADCAST Copying a preset station to a diff erent gr oup and number Y ou can cop y a preset station to a different group and number . Using this function, you can arr ange preset stations in your f avorite order or collect preset stations into genres.
E- 19 ADVANCED OPERATION English ADVANCED OPERATION AD V ANCED OPERA TION Adjusting the speaker balance This procedure lets you adjust the sound output le vel balance between the front, center and surround speak ers by using the built-in test tone gener ator .

E- 28 APPENDIX Problem The unit cannot be turned on though the power switch is pressed. No sound. No sound from the surr ound speakers No sound from the center speaker No sound field effect. No effect of Dolby Digital or DTS though the sound field program “ NORMAL ” is selected.
E- 29 APPENDIX English APPENDIX Problem When making a recording from an audio CD to an MD, CD-R, etc., all tracks are recorded as one track. Program sources on an MD, CD-R, etc. which is a copy of an audio CD, cannot be recorded on the computer via the USB connection.
E- 30 APPENDIX Problem Crackling noise fr om time to time. Noise increases when receiving a stereo broadcast, or the reception mode changes from stereo to monaural unexpectedl y . A desired station cannot be received by the auto tuning method. Stereo broadcasts are noisy and the ST indicator flashes.
