2 What is the V oice Editor? With the V oice Editor , y ou can edit your tone generator’ s v oices and effects via y our computer . Thanks to the easy-to-understand graphical interf ace, y ou can ed.
3 About Studio Manager Studio Manager is a cross-platf or m application that enables you to start multiple Editors for controlling Y AMAHA hardware products remotely , and to sav e multiple Editor settings . F or more information, refer to the separate Installation Guide or the Studio Manager PDF man ual.
4 About Open Plug-in T echnology Open Plug-in T echnology (OPT) is a new softw are format that enables y ou to control MIDI de vices from a music D A W application software.
5 About the OPT 2 Overview OPT 2 is a plug-in f ormat that enhances OPT Lev el 1 (P anels) and adds some conv enient functions for use with T otal Recall.
6 Star ting the V oice Editor After installing the V oice Editor and making the required connection, follo w the instr uctions below to star t the V oice Editor . Windows n In order to use the V oice Editor with your tone generator , you’ll need to set the MIDI in/out por ts.
7 Menu Bar The Menu Bar contains v ar ious editing and setup functions/commands. Click the desired menu name to open the appropriate pull-down menu, and choose the function/command y ou wish to apply . Those functions/commands which are unav ailable are gra yed out.
8 Edit Copy Copies the selected v oice to the clipboard. If nothing is selected, this item is gra yed out. P aste Copies the v oice from the clipboard to the V oice Editor . Initialize Resets the selected v oice parameters to the def ault values . If nothing is selected, this item is gray ed out.
9 Setup Setup... This is the same as the “Editor Setup” b utton in the toolbar ( page 14 ). T ransmit V oice Bulk... This is the same as the “T ransmit Bulk” button in the toolbar ( page 15 ). Receive V oice Bulk... This is the same as the “Receive Bulk” button in the toolbar ( page 16 ).
10 Librar y Window When you start V oice Editor , you will first see the Libr ar y window , which consists of tabs, each representing a Memor y in the tone generation b lock. Each tab lists all the names, n umbers and categories of voices in the selected Memory .
11 Split Bar If you place the mouse pointer o ver the line (Split Bar) that divides the T rack P arameter Section from the Block Section, the pointer will change shape into the split tool. With this tool, you can dr ag the Split Bar back and f or th and change the widths of the two sections.
12 Librar y Window T oolbar 1 “Open” button Click this to open the “Open” dialog and select a Librar y file to open. “Open” Dialog Select the desired Library file (extension: .W6E) and click [Open]. The contents of the selected file is indicated on the Library Windo w .
13 2 “Save” button Click this to sa ve the e xisting Librar y file with your ne w settings. If you are w or king on a new file, this b utton will open the “Sa ve As” dialog, where you can name and sa v e your settings as a new Libr ar y file (*.
14 3 “Editor Setup” button Click this to open the “Setup” dialog and specify the MIDI Out por t settings . “Setup” Dialog This is where you set up the V oice Editor to allow the transmission/reception of v oice data to/from y our tone gener ator .
15 4 “T ransmit” button Click this to open the “T ransmit” dialog to transmit all settings to y our tone generator . “T ransmit” Dialog V oice data can be transmitted in bulk to y our tone generator . Click the [Star t] button to begin trans- mitting the data.
16 5 “Receive” button Click this to open the “Receive” dialog to receive all settings from your tone gener ator . 6 “Library Window” button Click this to bring the Library Window bac k into view . See page 10 for details . “Receive” Dialog V oice data can be received in b ulk from your tone generator .
17 7 “Import” button Click this to open the “Impor t” dialog and import voices from an e xisting Librar y file. Y ou can drag-and-drop v oices to the Librar y Window . “Import” Dialog n More than one of these dialogs can be opened simultaneously .
18 8 “Monitor” button If you clic k this, bulk v oice data will be sent for monitoring on y our tone generator each time y ou select a v oice. Click it again to disab le monitor ing. n To monitor the voice , use the ke yboard connected to your tone generator .
19 A “Compare” button If you clic k this, bulk data f or the original voice (prior to editing) will be sent to your tone generator . Click it again to send the bulk data f or your edited v oice. This button is useful f or making comparisons between the original and edited voices.
20 Edit Window There are three types of v oices you can edit using V oice Editor : Nor mal voices , Drum voices , and Plug-in v oices. In the Librar y window , click the tab containing the Normal voice/Drum v oice/Plug-in v oice that you wish to edit.
21 3 COMMON EDIT panel (Quick Edit) This lets you quic kly change the volume and tonal characteristics of the V oice by editing the amplitude and filter parameters . n The parameters av ailable f or editing differ depending on the selected V oice (Nor mal, Dr um or Plug-in).
22 CONTROLLER SET P anel Y ou can assign your e xternal MIDI device’ s controllers such as the modulation wheel or ke yboard after touch to various parameters to allo w them to be modified in real-time. For instance , you could assign the modulation wheel to the filter’ s Resonance parameter when the Normal V oice is selected.
23 8 ELEMENT unit This section is e xplained in more detail in “Element Unit” ( page 26 ). 9 INSERTION EFFECT units This section is e xplained in more detail in “Inser tion Effect” ( page 30 ). User LFO P anel (Normal V oice only) 1 TOT AL STEP .
24 0 SYSTEM EFFECT settings This section is e xplained in more detail in “System Eff ects” ( page 30 ). A Ke yboard Click an y key on the k eyboard to monitor y our edited v oice in that ke y . B KEY ASSIGN settings Click on the left te xt bo x to select a K ey Assign setting.
25 n F or Plug-in v oices, you will see the follo wing panel. Click [DET AIL] to open the “Plug-in V oice Detail” dia- log. 1 V OICE BANK ..................Deter mines the Plug-in v oice bank. 2 V OICE NUMBER .............Determines the Plug-in voice n umber .
26 ● ELEMENT Dialog 1 LFO W A VE Click on the “W A VE” te xt box and select the LFO’ s wa v ef or m. 2 LFO SPEED Click on the “SPEED” text bo x and specify its speed. 3 KEY SYNC Click on the “KEY SYNC” text bo x to switch LFO k ey sync on or off .
27 8 [DET AIL] button Click this to open the “EL DET AIL ” dialog and set the parameters f or each Element. Y ou hav e wider and more accurate control o v er the parameters than with the editor gr aphs. Editor graphs Within these graphs , click and drag the “handles” (square marks) to visually adjust the parameters f or each Element.
28 FIL TER EG Settings The FIL TER EG (Env elope Generator) deter mines the transition in timbre while the k ey is being held down. There are five handles , each controlling a different stage in the en v elope. The first handle (fur thest to the left) controls the “Hold Time/Lev el.
29 8 FINE ................................ Use the “FINE” knob to fur ther fine-tune it. 9 CUT OFF ......................... Use the “CUT OFF” knob to set its LPF Cutoff F requency . 0 VELOCITY ...................... Use the “VELOCITY” knob to define ho w the Element’ s filter opens/ closes in response to note velocity .
30 Insertion Effect 1 Unit 1 CONNECT selector Click on the te xt bo x and choose the order in which signals are passed from one inser tion eff ect unit to the other . 2 Indicator lamps These show which of the Elements are assigned to the respectiv e Inser tion Eff ect unit.
31 5 [DET AIL] button Click this to open the Re verb dialog and set the detailed par ameters. ● Chorus Unit 1 Chorus Send Use this knob to set the le vel of the signal of Inser tion Effect 1/2 (or the b y-passed signal) sent to the Chorus effect. 2 Chorus Effect T ype selector Click on the te xt bo x and choose the type of Chorus Effect.
32 An Example of V oice Editor in Use There is no single wa y to use the many components in the V oice Editor . Y our editing needs and pref erences may diff er ; how e ver , the f ollowing example giv es you a simple step-b y-step guide in how to use the V oice Editor .
33 Tr oubleshooting If you encounter prob lems such as no sound output or abnor mal behavior , verify the connections bef ore checking the f ollowing. Sound does not change when using knobs or sliders.
