8 SECTION 4: UNPACKING TO REMOVE UNIT FROM CRA TE • Remove al l scre ws from the to p of the crat e using a 1/4" hex hea d socket or a flat bla de screwd river. • To remove ends, gras p top board on the end, and pull towar ds you in a dow nward motio n.
9 B A TTER Y IDENTIFICA TION Compare the bat tery in your lawn tractor (locate d under the seat) with the illustrati on above . Type “ A ” batteri es are activat ed and are ready to use. T ype “ B ” batteri es must be fill ed with batter y fluid (aci d) and charg ed before they are put into se rvice.

14 TIRE PRES SURE The tires on your un it may be over-infla ted for shi pping purpose s. Reduc e the tire pres sure befor e operati ng the unit. Check the si dewall of the ti res for pr oper infl ation pre ssure. WARNING: Maximum tire pressure under any circumstances is 30 p.

S lip the en d of the drain tub e into the mounting c lamp. Tighten the self-t apping s crew to secu re the clam p.
16 AMMETER (I f Equipped) The ammete r registers the rate of batter y charge or discharg e. The ammet er will registe r on the dischar ging side when s tarting the engine. It s hould regi ster on the opposite side (cha rging) when the engine is runnin g in the fast po sition unt il the bat tery is comp letely charged .

T o releas e, mov e the le ver to the right and the n forward. See Figure 18 . POWER T AKE-OFF (P TO) LEVER The PTO le ver is lo cated on the righ t side of the dashboar d.
18 • Slowly push in the choke as the engine warms up. STOPP ING TH E E NGIN E Turn the igni tion ke y to the lef t to the OFF position. Remove the k ey to preve nt accide ntal start ing. IMPORT ANT: If you str ike a foreign obje ct, s top t he engine.
19 SECTION 8: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Disconnect the spark plug wire(s) and gr ound against the engine before performing any adjustments, repairs or maintenance. LEVELING THE DECK The sides of the deck should be the sa me dis tance from the ground.

21 • If the paper can be inser ted throug h the coils of the brake sp ring, the br ake is pr operly a djuste d. • If the paper cannot be i nserted , tighten the hex lock nut un til the pa per ca n be inse rted throu gh the coil s. • Release the parkin g brake and place the tracto r in neutral.
