SERVICE MANUAL 3 4 00 HIGH EFFICIENCY STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER U.S.A. Yorkville Sound Inc. 4625 Witmer Industrial Estate Niagara Falls, New York 14305 USA Voice: (716) 297-2920 Fax: (716) 297-3689 WORLD.
1 AUDIOPRO AP-3400 SERVICE MANUA L M1012A “THE INPUT BOARD” The input board processes the audio signal from the input jacks to the voltage a mplifier board, (M1011A). Each channel consists of a ba lanced gain stage, defeatable b ass boost filter, and a preemphasis filter network.
2 VOLTAGE AMPLIFIER: The voltage ampl ifier amplifies the audio signal?s voltage fro m 4.8 volts peak ( at the output of U2) to approximen tly 97v peak which is required to dr ive the current amplifier boar d M1002A. M1 002A provides t he current req uired for the 97v peak signal t o drive 1200 w atts into 4 ohms ou t of the binding posts.
4 5 QUIESCENT CONDITION: This design is class A/B and t herefore the outpu t driver transis tors must be for ward biased to pr ovide low cross over distortion. In mos t class A/B des igns, a diode ch ain or VBE mult iplier is us ed to control the bias voltage and provide a means of adjust ing the bias.
6 The voltage betwee n the amplifier?s out put and test point 4 is approximate ly 14.7VDC derived from the v oltage drop across ZD3 @ ZD4. We ca ll this voltage the “float ing battery” because it floats on top of the output audio signal with poi nt 4 always being 1 4.
8 EMS Circuit The Energy Mana gement System c ircuit only applies to North American lin e voltage pro ducts. A North Am erican AC receptacle can pr ovide 1850 w atts before the wal l breaker would tri.
10 STEP 3: POWER UP PROCE DURE WITHOUT M1002A BOARDS It is extremely important that y ou never power u p an AP3400 wit h the interconnec ting cablesb etween the circu it boards not connec ted. Time and possible further damage wi ll be reduced if you test M1011 A and M1002A boards separat ely.
Identifying Defective Boards in the AP-3000 & AP-3400 Please note: All boards used in the AP-3400 are designated with an `A' suffix (e.g. M1002A) and use bright red solder mask STEP 1: VISUAL INSPECTION OF FRONT PANEL AND FAN a) Check to see whether the green power LED is lit.
