Chapter 1: Ins tallatio n Inst ru ctions 5 Before You Begin Before you begin installing the A DSL Bridge modem using this guide, you must have the following available to you: • ADSL service enabled on yo ur telephone l ine. To do thi s, you need to sign up with an ADSL service provider.

Step 1: Installing the Software You MUST install the sof tware BEFORE ins talling the hardware .

However, if any of the following situations applies to you, there is an additional task you must com plete before your AD SL Bridge modem can access the Internet.

Your ADSL Bridge mode m works with Dynamic Ho st Configuration P rotocol (DHCP), which i s also known as “dynamic IP addressing.
