6 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to det ermine slopes where you m ay not operate safely. Do n ot operate your l awn mower on such slopes.
7 SECTION 3: ASS EMBLING YOUR LAWN MOWER IMPORT ANT: This unit is shi pped without gasoline or oil in the engine. Be certain to service engine with gasoline and oil as instructed in the separat e engine manu al before operating your m ower.

Fi gur e 5 • With the spark plug wire discon nected and grounded, hold the b lade c ontrol handle ag ainst the upper handle , and pull the starter rope out of the engine.
9 SECTION 4: KNOW YOUR L A WN MOWER Read this owner ’ s m anual and safet y rules before op erating yo ur lawn mo wer. Compare t he illu strations in Fi gure 9 with your lawn mower to familiarize yourself wi th the location of vari ou s controls and adjustments .
10 NOTE: The s tarter button mus t be de pressed to start the engine with either the s elf starter or recoil starting syste m. Engine C ontrols See the separate en gine manual for the location and function of the controls o n the engine.
11 1. Chec k oil level an d add fuel, if necessary. 2. Open s hut off valve (if equipped) 1/4 turn. 3. T urn sa fety key 1 /4 turn clo ckwise t o RUN posit ion. 4. Firmly pus h primer bulb 3 times (For a cold engine only!). 5. W hil e standing at uppe r handle, de press the starter control button with the thumb of your right hand.
12 WARNING: If you strike a foreign obj ect, stop the engine. Rem ove wire from spark plug and de-energize, thoroughly inspect the mower for any damage, a nd repair t h e damage be fore restarting a nd operating th e mower. Exces siv e vibration of the mower during operation is an indication of dam age.
13 SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN MOWER WARNING: B e sure to disconnect the spark plug wire and DE-ENERGIZE starter before performin g any repairs or maintenance. DO NOT attemp t any maintenance or service to the engine and/or mower equi pped with the safety key in th e unlocked an d/or energized mode.
14 • Slide the blade adapt er onto the engine cranks haft. • Place the blad e on the ada pter.Th e blade ha s to be aligned a nd seated on the blade ada pter flanges. • Place bla de bell support on blade. Make sure t he notches on t he blade bell suppo r t are aligned with small ho les in t h e blade.
