Th i s c o u l d c au s e very seri ous i nj uri es in a crash . If a seat belt d oes not seem to work proper ly, it may not prote ct t he occupant in a cra sh. Using a seat belt t hat is not work ing proper ly can res ult in se rious injur y or dea th.
If y ou are pre gnant , the best wa y to prot ect yours elf a nd your unbor n child w hen driv ing or riding in a vehi cl e is to al ways wear a seat bel t, and keep the lap part of t he belt as low a s possible ac ross t he hips.

T he d ealer should also ins pect the anch ors f or da mage a nd repla ce them if need ed. If t he a utomatic seat belt te nsioners a ctiv at e during a crash, they must be replaced. For saf et y, you sh ould ch eck t he condit ion of your seat belt s regula rly.

T o ensure t hat t he passenger’s advan ced f ron t airbag sy stem wil l wor k proper ly, T his include s: A rea r passenger pushing or pulling on t he back of t he f ront passenger’s seat . Hanging he avy items on t he f ront pass enger sea t , or placing heav y item s in the se at-back p ock et.
Only one a irbag w ill deploy during a side impac t. If t he impac t is on t he passenger’s side, t he passenger’s side airb ag will depl oy even if there is no passe nger. T o get the best pr ote ction f r om th e si de airbag s, f ro nt se at oc cup ants shoul d wear t heir seat belts a nd si t upright and w ell back in their seat s.
In a mo derate t o severe si de imp act, sensor s will de tec t r apid a cceler at ion and signa l t he cont rol unit t o i n sta n tly i nf l ate th e si d e cu rtai n airb ag and ac tivate t he s eat belt t ensioner on the driv er’ s or the passenge r’s side of t he vehicle.
I f the i nd i ca to r co m es o n at an y ot her time , or does not come on at a ll, you sho uld have t he system checked by you r dealer. For examp le: I f the S R S i n d ic ator d o es n ot co me o n af te r yo u tu rn th e i g ni tio n swit ch t o the ON ( II) posit ion.

A n inf ant mus t be proper ly res tr ained in a rea r-f ac ing, reclining child sea t unt il t he child r eache s the sea t maker ’s weight or height limit f or t he sea t, a nd t he child is at lea st one year old . A rear-f acing ch ild seat ca n be pl aced in any s eat ing posit ion in the back seat , but not in t he f ront .
In any of t hese situa tions, we st rongly re commend t hat y ou insta ll t he child sea t dir ect ly behind t he f r on t passenger’s seat , m ove the seat as f ar f orward as need ed , and l eave it unoccupied. Or , you may w ish to get a sma ller r ear -f acing ch ild seat .
Even wi th advanc ed f ron t airbag s, wh i c h ca n au to m ati c al l y tu rn th e pass eng er’s f ron t airbag o f f (see page ), a ba ck seat is the sa f est place f or a sma ll child.
In sea ting pos itions a nd veh icles not equipped w ith L A T CH , a L A T CH- compat ible c hild seat ca n be inst alled using a sea t be lt. A f t er selecting a proper chil d seat an d a go od p l.
A child sea t s ecure d wit h a se at belt should be inst a lled as f ir mly as possi ble. Ho wever, it do es not need t o be ‘‘rock solid.’ ’ Some side-t o-side moveme nt c an be ex pect ed and should not r educe t he child se at ’s ef f ect iveness.
Make sure t here are no objects near the anchors t ha t could prevent a secure connection b etw ee n th e ch i l d s ea t an d th e anc ho rs. Move the seat belt buckl e or t ongue awa y f rom th e lower anc ho rs.

When not using the L A T CH syst em, all child seats must be secured t o the ve hicle wit h the la p part of a lap/ shoulder belt . T o acti vate t he l o ckabl e retractor, slowly pull t he shoulder pa rt of t he belt all the wa y out until it stops, th en l et th e be l t f eed b ack i nto the re tra cto r.
A f te r conf ir ming t hat t he belt is locke d, grab t he s houlder pa rt of the belt near t he bu ckle, and p ull up to rem ove any sl ack f rom the lap pa rt of t he belt . R eme mber, if th e l ap p art o f th e b el t i s n ot ti g h t, t he child seat will not be secur e.
