1 This guide explains how to install the DuoConnect Host Bus Adapter in a PCI slot and how to in stall its associated drivers. It also describes how to conne ct a USB device and a digital video camera. Overview The DuoConnect adapter enables you to connect USB 1.

3 Installing the DuoConnect Adapter Installing the DuoConnect Adapter 1 Discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a grounded me tal object (such as the exposed metal parts on the back of your computer). 2 T urn of f power to the computer and disconnect the power cord.
4 Installing the DuoConnect Adapter 5 Insert the DuoConnect adapter in a PCI expansion slot and press down firmly until the adapter clicks into place. Then, replace the slot cover screw . When installed pr operly , the adapter should be leve l with the expansion sl ot.

T ype the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive in the Cop y manuf acturer’ s files from box, as shown below , and click OK .

8 Installing the Windows Drivers 10 T o verify that the driver is installed, right-click the My Computer desktop icon, s elect Proper ties , click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and verify that the information shown below appears .
9 Installing the Windows Drivers Windows 2000 1 T urn on the computer and inser t the DuoConnect CD. 2 Log in as Administrator Note: Y ou need to log in as administrator or acquire administrator privileges for y our computer in or der to complete the driver installation.
10 Installing the Windows Drivers 4 In the Install Hardwar e Device Drivers window , select Search for a suitable dr iver for my device (Recommended) , and click Next . 5 In the Locate Driver Files window , uncheck all options except CD-ROM drive s , and click Next .

12 Installing the Windows Drivers 9 T o verify that the driver is installed, right-click the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties , click the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager button. Then, expand IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers and Universal Se rial Bus Controllers .
13 Installing the Windows Drivers Windows Me 1 T urn on or r estart your computer and insert the DuoConnect CD. 2 When the Add New Hardwar e W izard appears, select Automatic search for a better driver (Recommended) and click Next . 3 After the driver is copied, click Fin ish .
14 Installing the Windows Drivers 6 If you see a message that the PCI Univer sal Serial Bus driver was not located, select Automatic search for a better driver (Recommended ) . Then, insert the DuoConnect CD and click Next . 7 When W i ndows has finished copying the USB 2.
15 Installing the Windows Drivers 9 T o ve rify that the driv er is installed, right- click the My Comput er desktop icon, select Properties , and click the Device Manager tab. Expand 1394 Bus Controller and Universal Serial Bus Controllers . V erify that the information shown below appears.
16 Installing the Windows Drivers Windows 9 8 SE 1 T urn on or r estart your computer and insert the DuoConnect CD. 2 When the Add New Har dware W izard opens, click Next . 3 Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended ) , and click Next.
17 Installing the Windows Drivers 5 In the window shown below , click Next . Note: The driver name may differ fr om the one shown in the example above, but it will be an .inf file. 6 Click Next again. If W indows prompts you to r estart your computer , click No .
18 Installing the Windows Drivers 8 Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended ) , and click Next. 9 In the window shown below , uncheck all options and click Next .
19 Installing the Windows Drivers 10 Select The updated driver (Recommended) , and click Next . 11 Y ou may see a message that W indows is searching for the driver . Click Next. 12 When you see the following pr ompt, insert your W indows 98 SE CD and click OK .
20 Installing the Windows Drivers Note: If you have copied the driver files onto your har d drive and know wher e they ar e located, you can br owse to that folder instead of inserting the W indow s 98 SE CD. 14 When the third driver has been copied onto your system, the following window appears.
21 Installing the Windows Drivers 17 Select Search for the best driver for your device (Reco mmended) , and click Next. 18 Check the CD-ROM dr ive option, insert the DuoConnect CD, and click Next .
22 Installing the Windows Drivers 19 If the following screen appears, select The updated driver (Recommended ) , and click Next . Otherwise, pr oceed to Step 21 . 20 W i ndows shows you the location of the driver . Click Next . 21 When W indows is finished copying files , click Finish .

24 Installing the Windows Drivers 25 Select The updated driver (Recommended) , and click Next . 26 Y ou may see a message that W indows is searching for the driver . Click Next. 27 When you see the following pr ompt, insert your W indows 98 SE CD in your CD-ROM drive and click OK .
25 Installing the Windows Drivers 28 T ype the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive in the Copy files from box, and click OK . Y our CD-R OM drive letter may be d (as shown below) or some other letter .
26 Installing the Windows Drivers 30 T o verify that the drivers are installed, right-cli ck the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties , and click the Device Manager tab. Then, expand IE EE 1394 Bus Controller and Universal Serial Bus Controllers .
27 Installing the Macintosh Driver Installing the Macintosh Driver In this procedur e, you install the DisableSleep driver , which prepar es your Macintosh computer to use the DuoConnect car d. Note: Blue and white G3s are not s upported. 1 T urn on or r estart the computer and insert the DuoConnect CD.

29 Installing the Macintosh Driver DuoConnect and Deep Sleep The DuoConnect adapter does not support Deep Sleep on Power Macintosh G4 computers. When you use the DuoConnect installer as described on page 27 , the DisableSleep driver (s hown at right) is i nstalled and the Deep Sleep featur e is disabled.
30 Connecting USB Devices Connecting USB Devices Y ou can connect standar d USB 1.1 or high-speed U SB 2.0 devices t o the connectors of the DuoConnect adapter , as shown below . Hotplugging The DuoConnect adapter support s hot-plugging, allowing USB devices to be attached and recogn ized while the computer is on.
31 Connecting USB Devices Connecting a Digital Video Camera T wo types of Fir eW ire connectors ar e commonly used: a 4-pin and a 6-pin. The DuoConnect adapter contains two external 6-pin connectors suitable for use with a camera. Digital video cameras use a 4-pin connector and may not include a cable.
32 T roubleshooting T r oubleshooting If you encounter difficulties while insta lling the DuoConnect adapter , check the following: ■ Is your devi ce powered on? ■ Is the cable properly conne cted to the DuoConnect adapter and the device? ■ Is the adapter seated evenly in the PCI slot? ■ Are your drivers current?
