Chapter 1 10 Data LED indicati ons 1 The Data LED (light emitti ng diode) will flash depen ding on the machine ’s status. LED Ma chine Status Descrip tion Ready Mode The ma chine is re ady to print, in sleep m ode, there is no print data, or the pow er switch is off.
11 2 2 L oading pape r and pr int m edi a 2 The machine can feed paper from the standard paper t ray. When you put p aper into t he paper tray , note the follow ing: If your applic ation sof tware supports paper size selec tion on the print menu, you can selec t it through t he sof tware.

Chapter 2 20 Envel ope s 2 Most envelopes will be s uitable f or your machi ne. However, so m e envel opes may hav e feed and print -quality pr oblems bec ause of t he way t hey have been made. A sui table envelope shoul d ha v e edges wit h str aight, wel l-creased folds and t he leadi ng edge sho uld not be t h icker than two sheets of paper .

Chapter 2 22 Loadin g documents 2 U sing th e auto matic docum ent feed er (AD F) 2 The ADF can hol d up to 35 pages and fee ds eac h s h eet individ ually. Us e standard 80 gsm paper and a lways fan the pag es bef ore putt ing t hem in t he ADF. IMPORT ANT • DO NOT leave thic k document s on the scanner g lass (Fl atbed).
Loading pa per and docume nts 23 2 Us ing the scann er glas s (Flat bed ) 2 You can use the sca nner glass to fax, copy or scan pag es of a boo k one page at a time. Documents can be up to 215.9 mm wide and 297 mm long. Note To use the scann er glas s , the ADF mus t be empty.
24 3 Mode Time r 3 The mach ine has thr ee mode keys on the con trol panel: Fa x , Scan , and Copy . You can set how muc h time the machine takes after the last Copy or Scan operation t o retur n to Fax mode default. If you choo s e Off , the machine wil l s tay in the mode yo u us ed las t .
Gene ral Setup 25 3 Vo lume settings 3 Ring volume 3 You can choose a range of ring volume levels, from High to Off . While i n Fax mode press or t o adjus t the volume level . The LCD will show the current sett ing, and each key press will change the volu m e to the next level .

Security features 35 4 Re stricting dialling 4 This feat ure is to prevent us ers from sending a fax o r call to a wrong number by mistak e. You can set th e machine to res trict dialling by using the dial pad, One Touch and Sp eed Dial. If you choose Off , the m achine d oes no t restrict the diall ing method.

46 6 Recei ve m odes 6 You must choo s e a receive mode dependi ng on the extern al device s and telephone servi c e s you hav e on your line. The diagr ams belo w will h elp you c hoose the correc t mode. ( For more det ailed info rmation abou t t he receive modes , see Using receive modes on pa ge 47.
Rec eiving a fax 47 6 Using rec eive mod es 6 Some receive modes answer faxes automatical ly ( Fax Only and Fax/Tel ). You may want t o change t he Ring Del ay before us ing t hese modes . (See Ring Delay on page 48.) Fa x Onl y 6 Fax Only mode will automatic ally answe r every call as a fax.
Chapter 6 48 Recei ve Mode settin gs 6 Ring D ela y 6 The Ring Del ay setting sets the number of times the machine rings befor e it answers in Fax Only and Fax/Tel modes. If you hav e external or ex tension telephone s on the same line as t he machine , choose the maximum number o f rings.

Remote Fax Opti ons (black & white on ly) 73 9 F ax Storage 9 The Fax Storage feat ure lets you store your received faxes in the machine’s memory. You can ret rieve stored f ax messages from a fax machine at another location using th e remot e retrie v a l commands.
Chapter 9 74 e Pres s Stop/Exit . IMPORT ANT If you choose Backup Pri nt On, the machine wil l a lso p r i nt the fax at your machine so y ou will have a co py. This is a safety feat ure in case there is a power failure bef ore the fax is forwar ded or a probl em at the receiv ing machine.

Chapter 9 78 Remote fax comm ands 9 Foll ow the commands below t o access features when you are away from the machine. Whe n you cal l the machi ne and enter your Remote A cces s Code ( 3 digits follo wed by l ), th e sys tem will give two shor t beeps and you must enter a remote command.
79 10 10 Polling lets you s et up your machin e so other people can receiv e faxes from you, but they pay for the call. It als o lets you c all somebody else’s fax mac hine and receive a fax from it, so you pay for the call. The polling feat ure needs to be s et up on both machines fo r this to work.
