Settin g Up th e M achine 5 STEP 1 1 1 Removing the protecti ve part s 1 Remove t he prote c t ive ta pe and fil m covering the scanner glass. 2 Remove the foam bag (1) containing the ink cartridges from on top of the paper tray. Im prop er Set up DO NOT conn ect the inter face cable.
Set ti ng Up th e Machi ne 6 STE P 1 3 Fan the stack of paper well to avoid pape r j a ms and misfeeds. 4 Gently p ut the p aper into the paper tray print side down and top edg e first.
Setti ng Up the Ma chin e 7 8 While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the pap er suppo r t unt il it clicks, and t hen unfold the paper s upport fl a p . Note Do not use the paper su pport flap for Legal size paper. Note You can use the pho to bypass tray wh ich is located o n the top of the pape r tray to print on photo 4 × 6i n .
Set ti ng Up th e Machi ne 8 STE P 1 Note If you are s haring one phone line with an external tele phone, connect it as shown below. 1 Extension telepho ne 2 External telephone Note If you are s haring one phone line with an external telephone answerin g machin e, connect it as sh own bel ow .
Setti ng Up the Ma chin e 9 Note Do not throw away the yellow prot e ctive part. You will need it if you transpo rt the machine. 4 Take out the ink cartridge. 5 Caref u ll y remove t h e prote ctive yellow cap (1) . Im prop er Set up DO NOT touch the are a show n in th e illu s tr at ion be lo w.
Set ti ng Up th e Machi ne 10 STE P 1 Caution • D O NOT take out ink cartridge s if y ou do not need to rep lace them. If you do so, it m ay reduce the i nk quant it y and the machine will not know the quant ity of in k left in the c a rtridge. • D O NOT shake the ink cartridges.
Setti ng Up the Ma chin e 11 4 The LCD asks you if t he print qua lity i s OK for black and col or. Press 1 ( Yes ) or 2 ( No ) on the dial pad. After pressing 1 ( Yes ) or 2 ( No ) for both black and color, the LCD sho ws: 5 Pre ss 1 ( Yes ), the machi ne will then start cleaning the colors.
Set ti ng Up th e Machi ne 12 STE P 1 8 Set ting the LCD Contrast You can adjust the LCD cont rast for a s harper and more vivid display. If you are hav ing difficulty reading the LCD, try c hanging the contras t setting. 1 Pre ss Me nu . 2 Pre ss a or b to choose General Setup .

Set ti ng Up th e Machi ne 14 STE P 1 12 Choosing a Receiv e Mode There are t hree possible receive modes: Fax Only , Fax/Tel and Manual . 1 Press Menu . 2 Press a or b to choose Initial Setup . Press OK . 3 Press a or b to choose Receive Mode . 4 Press or to choose the mode .
