7 1 USING YOUR SEWING MACHINE Connecting Plugs 1 Connect the foot controller plug to the machi ne. 2 Connect th e power suppl y plug to a wa ll outlet. Note ● When leav ing the mach ine unattend ed, the main switch o f the mach ine should be switched off or the plug must be remove d from the w all outlet.

9 1 4 Hold the ne edle with your left hand, and then use a coin or sc rewdri ver to turn the needle clamp screw counterclockw i se to remove the needle.

15 1 Stretch Stitching Raise the needle to it s highe st position by turning the handwh eel toward you (c ounterclockwi se) so that the mark on the handwheel p oints directly up. ■ 35 Sti tches Select ing a S tretch St itc h Setting the stitch leng th dial to “ ” or “ ” changes t he selected pattern to a str etch stitch.

17 1 3 Put the bo bbin onto the bobbin winde r shaft and sli de th e bobbin wind er shaft to the rig ht. Turn the b obbin clockwise, b y hand, until the spring on th e shaft slides into the groove of the bobbi n. 1 Spring on the shaft 2 Groove of the bobbin Note ● Make sure that the thre ad between the spool an d the bobbin is pulled tight.

19 1 4 Hold the end o f the thread, push the bob bin down wit h your fi nger, p ass the th read through the slit, and th en pull out a short length o f thread, as shown. 5 Reattach the bobbin cov er. Put the left tab in place (see ar row 1 ), and then press lightly on the right side (see arrow 2 ) until the co v er clicks into place.

23 1 4 Pull dow n the needle thread er lever as much as possible, and then turn the lever toward the back o f the ma chi ne (awa y from you). 25 1 ■ Attac hing the T win Needle Attach t he twin needle in the same way as a single nee dle (see page 8). The fla t side of the needle should face tow ard the back and the rounded side should face toward you. ■ Attach ing t he Extr a Spo ol Pin Put the extra spool pin in the hole on the top of the ma chine.

27 2 STRAIGHT AND ZIGZAG STI TCHING Please Read Before Sewing Straight Stitching * Turn the stitch width dial to adjust the n eedle position. Setting the dial to 5 selects th e left needle po sition; setting t he dial to 0 selects th e righ t needle posit ion.

29 3 BUILT-IN STITCHE S Blind Hem Stitching You can use the Blind He m Stitch to f inish the edge of a pr oject, like the hem of a pair o f trousers, without t he stitch showing . Use the Blind Hem Stitch when sewin g on non-stretc h fabrics, and the Stretch Blind He m Stitch for stretc h fabrics.

31 3 Double Action Stitching These stitc hes are used for jo ining two pieces of fabric, such a s when making p atchwork. Set the pattern se lection dial to t he Double Ac tion Stitch, Bridging Stitch, or Rampa rt Stitch. Heirloom Stitching These stitc hes are used to join t wo pieces of fabric while leav ing a space be tween their ed ges.

35 4 ■ Making a Buttonhole on Stretch Fabri cs When sewing buttonh oles on stretch f abric, the buttonh ole stitching is se wn over a gimp thread. 1 Using tai lor’s chalk, mark the position of t he buttonhole on the fabric, a nd then attach the buttonhole foot and set the pattern selecti on dial to “F”.

37 5 USING ATTACHMENTS AND APPLICATIONS Zipper Inser t ion You can use the zipper fo ot to sew differen t types of zippers, a nd can easily p osition it to the rig ht or left side of the needle. When sewing the right side of t he zipper, atta ch the shank to the left p in of the zipp er foot.

39 5 Appliqués You ca n cr eate an appl ique by cu ttin g a dif feren t piece of fabric into a shape and using it a s a decorat ion. 1 Baste t he cut de sign to th e fabric. 2 Caref ully sew aro und the ed ge of t he design with a zi gzag st itch. 3 Cut away any fabric that is le ft outside the stitching.

41 5 OPTI ONAL AC CESSO RIES Using the Walking Foot This foot is v e ry usefu l for sewing materials suc h as vinyl clo th, synthetic le ather, thin leathe r, etc. These materials are difficult to fee d when sewing. The walking fo ot prevents th ese materials from crump ling, slipping or sticking be tween the pre sser foot and the material.

43 5 7 Use both hands to keep the fabric firmly stretched and move the fabric to sew over the drawn de sign. 1 Quilti ng design 8 The l e ngth of the stitch de pends on how quickly you move the fabric an d on the machine’s se wing speed. Se w while moving the fabric slo wly.

45 6 5 Using a coin, remo ve the two s crews. Lift u p the need le plate as shown in the illustration, a nd then slide the needle plate t o the left to remove it. 1 Use a coi n or scr ewdriver 6 Grasp t he bobbin ca se, and then lift it out to the left.
