3 A Preparation Preparation Before turning on the machine, remove all orange tape and protective sheets from the inside and outside of the machine. The Print Head is placed inside of the Paper Output T ray (A). Open the Paper Output Tray and take it out.
1 2 A C B 3 4 D F E 4 Hardware Setup T urn the Power On Plug the power cord into the back left of the machine, then connect the other end to the wall outlet. When the above screen is displayed, press the OK button and go to the next step. Do NOT connect the USB cable or Ethernet cable at this stage.
1 A C B C D 2 5 Hardware Setup Install the Print Head Open the Paper Output T ray (A), then lift the Scanning Unit (Cover) (B) until it stops. Handle the Print Head carefully . Do not drop or apply excessive pressure to it. • The Print Head Holder makes a noise as it moves.
6 3 4 5 E F G H Hardware Setup Install the Print Head Remove the Print Head from the silver package. There may be some transparent or light blue ink on the inside of the bag the Print Head comes in, or the inside of the protective cap - this has no effect on print quality .
7 6 7 Hardware Setup Install the Print Head T ilt the Print Head forward and set it in place as shown. Lower the Print Head Lock Lever completely . Do not knock the Print Head against the sides of the holder . • Install in a well-lit environment. • Hold the Print H ead Lock Lever rmly and lower i t gently .
A B C 1 1 2 2 8 Hardware Setup Install the Ink T anks Handle the ink tanks carefully . Do not drop or apply excessive pressure to them. • Be sure to use the supplied ink tanks. • If the Scanning Unit (Cover) is left open for more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right.
9 4 3 Hardware Setup Install the Ink T anks T ilt the ink tank, then insert it under the label and against the back end of the slot. Press the PUSH mark on the ink tank rmly until it clicks. When the installation is completed properly , the Ink lamp lights red.
10 6 5 E D 7 Hardware Setup Install the Ink T anks If an error message is displayed on the LCD, make sure that the Print Head and the ink tanks are correctly installed. • Close the Scanning Unit (Cover) (E). W ait until the LCD changes as shown in the illustration (about 5 minutes) and go to the next step.
1 2 C A B 11 Hardware Setup Align the Print Head Align the Print Head for better print results. Extend the Output T ray Extension (C). Load a shee t of suppli ed sp ecial ty pap er ( Matte Photo Paper MP-101 ) in the Rear T ray (A) by referring to steps to in "Loading Paper" on page 49.
12 2 1 3 E D 4 3 Hardware Setup Align the Print Head Make sure that a pattern similar to the one shown in the illustration is printed. The pattern is printed in black and blue. • When an error message is displayed on the LCD, press the OK button to clear the error , then go to the next step.
13 Select Connection Method USB Connection Select Connection Method Go to "[USB Connection] Install the Software" on page 14. Go to "Select Connection T ype" on page 20. Select the method to connect the machine to the computer according to your system environment.
14 USB Connection If the Found New Hardware or Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears: □ Click Cancel to quit the dialog box. Proceed from . Remove the USB cable connected to your computer . The dialog box may close. In this case, proceed from .
15 2 1 A 1 2 USB Connection Install the Software T urn on the computer , then insert the Setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If the program does not start automatically , double-click the CD-ROM icon in Computer or My Computer . When the CD-ROM contents appear , double-click MSETUP4.
16 3 3 USB Connection Install the Software Double-click the Setup icon of the CD-ROM folder to proceed to the following screen. Enter your administrator name and password, then click OK . If the CD-ROM folder does not open automatically , double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.
17 4 5 USB Connection Install the Software Click Easy Install . The drivers, application software, and on-screen manuals are installed all together . Click Install . For Windows Vista/XP If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or later , you can use the Web print software Easy-WebPrint EX.
18 B 6 USB Connection Install the Software Important Information for the Installation The product serial number is required when registering the product. The serial number is located inside the machine (as shown in the illustration). If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click Agree .
19 7 USB Connection Install the Software Click Exit to complete the installation. If Restart is displayed, follow the instruction to restart the computer . Next, read "Loading Paper" on page 47! After restarting the computer , remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.
20 Network Connection Notes on Network Connection ■ Before connecting the machine to the network, make sure that conguration of the computer and access point or router is complete, and that the computer is connected to the network.
21 Network Connection Select Connection T ype Wireless Connection Wired Connection An "Ad-hoc connection," which establishes a direct connection to the computer over a wireless connection without using an access point, is not supported. Be sure to prepare an access point.
22 Network Connection For details on how to check the following information, refer to the manual of your access point or router , or contact its manufacturer . Check the Information for Wireless Connection ■ The following information is required to connect to your access point or router .
23 3 1 2 A B Network Connection Wireless Setup Select Wireless LAN setup , then press the OK button. Use the Easy-Scroll Wheel (A) to select Settings , then press the OK button. Select Y es , then press the OK button. When wireless connection is enabled, the Wi-Fi lamp (B) lights blue.
24 4 5 6 Network Connection Wireless Setup Select Easy settings , then press the OK button. When one of the above screens is displayed, enter the network key you wrote down on page 22, then press the OK button. If the above screen is not displayed, go to step .

1 A 3 2 B 26 Network Connection Wireless Setup Using WPS (W i-Fi Protected Setup) Use the Easy-Scroll Wheel (A) to select Settings , then press the OK button. Select Wireless LAN setup , then press the OK button. Select Y es , then press the OK button.
27 5 6 4 Network Connection Wireless Setup Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Select Push button method , then press the OK button. Press the OK button. T o use the PIN code method for setup, select PIN method in step , then press the OK button. Follow the on-screen instructions to operate the machine and access point.
28 7 8 C Network Connection Wireless Setup Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) If the time out error screen appe ared repea tedly , or if another error appe ared, refe r to the pr inted manu al: Network Setup T roubleshooting .
1 B A 29 Network Connection Wired Setup Remove the Cap (A), then connect a network device (router , etc.) with a Ethernet cable (B). Ethernet cable Connect to the network over a wired connection. A Ethernet cable is required to connect to a network device (router , etc.
30 3 2 C D 4 Network Connection Wired Setup Select Device settings , then press the OK button. Use the Easy-Scroll Wheel (C) to select Settings , then press the OK button.

3 1 2 B A 32 Network Connection Select Device settings , then press the OK button. Confirm Connection Status Select LAN settings , then press the OK button. Press the HOME button (A), select Settings using the Easy-Scroll Wheel (B), then press the OK button.
33 4 5 C Network Connection Conrm Connection Status Select Wireless LAN setting list or Wired LAN setting list , then press the OK button. Select Conrm LAN settings , then press the OK button. Now the machine is connected to the network. Next, read "[Network Connection] Install the Software" on page 34.
1 1 34 Network Connection Install the Software Quit all running applications before installation. • T o use the machine by connecting it to a computer , software including the drivers needs to be copied (installed) to the computer's hard disk. The installation process takes about 20 minutes.
35 2 2 Network Connection Install the Software Double-click the Setup icon of the CD-ROM folder to proceed to the following screen. Enter your administrator name and password, then click OK . If the CD-ROM folder does not open automatically , double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.
36 4 3 Network Connection Install the Software Click Install . Click Easy Install . The drivers, application software, and on-screen manuals are installed all together . If you want to select particular items to install, click Custom Install . • If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or later , you can use the Web print software Easy-WebPrint EX.
37 5 6 Network Connection Install the Software Select Use the printer on network , then click Next . Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.
38 7 7 8 Network Connection Install the Software When the Please Allow All Install Wizard Processes screen appears, click Next . When the Printer Detection screen appears, click Next . When the Printer Detection screen appears, click Next . If the Printer Detection screen is not displayed, the connection method is not correctly selected in step .
39 9 8 Network Connection Install the Software When the Detected Printers List dialog box appears, select the machine, then click Next . When the Setup Completion dialog box appears, click Next or Complete . For Wired Connection Go to "Install the Software (Information)" on page 45.
40 1 0 9 Network Connection Install the Software Y ou can cancel measuring by clicking Cancel . Y ou also examine the detailed status of the communication link after setup.
1 41 Network Connection When the Register Printer and Scanner screen appears, click Register Printer . Install the Software (Registration) This section describes how to register the machine on a Macintosh computer . Windows users: read "Install the Software (Information)" on page 45.
42 2 B - 2 A - Network Connection Install the Software (Registration) Click More Printers in the Printer Browser screen. 2 Select Canon IJ Network in the pop-up menu, select Canon MP640 series in the list of printers, then click Add . 3 When the Printer List window appears, click Add .

1 2 3 C A B D F E 47 After Installing the Machine Loading Paper This section explains how to load paper in the Cassette (A) and the Rear T ray (B). The Cassette supports plain paper (C) only . T o print photo paper / Hagaki (D), be sure to load it in the Rear T ray .
48 5 6 G 4 After Installing the Machine Loading Paper Slide the Paper Guide to align with the actual size of the paper . The Paper Guide will stop when it aligns with the corresponding mark of paper size. There may be a little space between the Paper Guide and the paper stack.

Open various applications and on-screen manuals with a single click. If you have a problem with machine settings, click the Change settings or nd solutions to problems.

54 2 3 D E After Installing the Machine Print Photos from a Memory Card Load a sheet of 4" x 6" size photo paper in the Rear T ray (D) in portrait orientation. For details, refer to "Loading Paper" on page 47. • Rotate the Easy-Scroll Wheel (E) to display a photo to print.

The Print Settings Conrmation Screen appears. Press the Color button (F). After printing, open the Card Slot Cover , pinch the memory card and pull it straight out.
