9 • Before using the camera, please ensure that you read the safety precau tions described below. Always en sure that the camera is operated correctly. • The safety precautions noted on the following pages are intended to prevent injuries to yourself and other persons, or damage to the equipme nt.
Safety Precautions 10 Battery, Battery Charger Other Warnings • Use only recommended batteries. • Do not place the battery near or in direct flame. • Do not let the battery come into cont act with water (e.g. sea water) or other liquids. • Do not attempt to disassemble, alter or apply heat to the battery.
Safety Precautions 11 Caution • Do not aim the camera at bright light sources (the sun, etc.). Doing so may cause malfunctions or damage the image sensor. • This camera cannot be used underwater at a depth greater than 10 m (33 ft.), or in hot springs and other mineralized waters.

13 Getting Started This chapter explains preparations before shooting, how to shoot in ƒ (Auto) mode, and then how to view, erase and print the images you take. The latter part of this chapter explains how to shoot and view movies and transfer images to a computer.
14 You can en joy using thi s camera in the rain, on the beach, w hile skiing, or underwater within a dep th of 10 m (3 3 ft.). Howe ver, it can n ot be used in hot springs or other minera lized wate rs.

16 Use the incl uded charger t o charge the bat tery. Remove the cover. Insert the battery. ● Align the marks on the battery and charger, t hen inse rt the b attery by sliding it in and down . Charge the battery. ● For CB-2LY: Fl ip out the plug and plug the charger i nto a power out let .
Charging the Battery 17 Approximate Number of Shots That Can Be Taken * The number of shots that can be taken is based on the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) measurement standard. • Under some shooting conditions, fewer shots can be taken.
18 Insert the i ncluded batte ry and a memor y card into the camera. Check the card’s write-protect tab. ● If the memory card has a write-protect tab, you will not be able to re cord image s if the tab is in th e locked pos ition. Slide the tab up until you h ear a click .

Inserting the Battery and Memory Card 20 Approximate Number of Shots per Memory Card • Values are based on the default settings. • The number of shots that can be taken will vary depending on camera s ettings, the subject and the memory card used.
21 The Date/Time se ttings screen will appear the first time the c amera is turned on. Since th e dates and time s recorded int o your image s are based on t hese settings, b e sure to set them. Turn on the camera. ● Press the power button. The Date/Time screen will ap pear.
Setting the Date and Time 22 Changing the Date and Time You can change the curren t date and time settings. Display the menus. ● Press the n butt on. Select [Date/Time] in the 3 tab. ● Press the qr buttons t o select the 3 tab. ● Press the op buttons to select [Date/ Time], then pres s the m button.
23 You can change the langua ge displayed in the LCD monito r menus and messages. Set the playback mode. ● Press the 1 butt on. Display the settings scr een. ● Press and hold the m button , then immediately pr ess the n button . Set the disp lay languag e.
24 Before you us e a new memory car d or one that ha s been used in other devices, yo u should for mat the card wi th this camera . Formatting ( initializing) a memory car d erases all d ata on the memory card. A s you cannot retrieve the erased da ta, exercis e adequate caution befo re formatti ng the memory card.
25 The shutter button has two stops. T o take images that are in fo cus, be sur e to first pr ess the shu tter button lightly (halfway) to focus, th en take the s hot. Press halfway (lightly to the first stop) . The camera focu ses and auto matically selects the ne cessary setti ngs for shooting, such as the br ightness .
26 Since the came ra can dete rmine the subjec t and shoot ing conditi ons, you can let it a utomatically select the be st settings for the sce ne and just s hoot. The camera can a lso detect and focus on faces, sett ing the color and brightness to optimal le vels.
ƒ Taking Pictures 27 Compose the shot. ● Pressing t he i butto n will zoom in on your subje ct, maki ng it appear lag er. Pressing th e j button will zoom out f rom your subje ct, maki ng it appear s maller. Focus. ● Press the s hutter butto n halfway to fo cus.
ƒ Taking Pictures 28 • The image comes out dark even if the flash fired when shooting? Your subject is too far aw ay. When you have pressed j so that the camera is at maximum wide angle, your shooting range is 30 cm – 3.2 m (1.0 – 10 ft.). Your shooting range is about 30 cm – 2.
29 You can view you r images on t he screen. Select the playb ack mode. ● Press the 1 butt on. The last image y ou took will ap pear. Select an image. ● Pressing t he q button wi ll cycle thr ough the images in r everse ord er. ● Pressing the r button will cycle through the images in the order they were taken.
c Printing Images 30 Erase the image. ● Press the p button. [Erase?] a ppears. ● Press the qr buttons t o select [Eras e], then press th e m button. The displaye d image will be erased. ● To exit i nstead of erasing, press t he qr buttons to select [Cancel ], then press the m button.
c Printing Images 31 Turn on the printer. Turn on the camera. ● Press the 1 button to turn o n the camera . X will appear. Select an image to prin t. ● Press the qr buttons t o select an ima ge and press the 2 button. X Printing will start. ● If you want to pri nt additio nal images, repeat Step 5 afte r printing h as completed.

E Shooting Movies 33 Shoot. ● Press the shutter butto n fully. The camera will st art shooting t he movie, and [ Rec] and the elapsed ti me will appear on the s creen.
