Central Emp h a sis Metering After e xtensive experimen tation, it was deter mined that t he Central Emphasis Metering m e thod of exposure measur e ment u sed in the Canon EF is the most re li a ble way of obtaining proper exposures in fast mo ving AE pho tography.

E Sett ing th e AS A The ASA is a n umerical rati ng of a f ilm's s ensitiv ity to light. A hi gher ASA n umber indicates a faster film w h ich i s m ore sen sitive to a given a mount o f light; a lower ASA number indicates a slower film which is less s ensi tive to the same amo un t of light.

30 H Vi ew ing and Focusing The Canon EF is a s ingle-lens-refle x (SLR) ca mera. This means that you view the sub ject through the same lens as is u sed to ta k e the photograph. Continuous vie wing (except at t he momen t of exposure) is made poss ible by the use of an instant-ret urn mirror located inside the bod y just below t he pe ntaprism.

J Releasing the Shutter The Canon EF's shut ter button is con v en iently located on the right side of the camera and is coaxial w i th t he winding l ever and shutter speed dia l. The shutter button stroke is very li ght and short for a Variab le Apertu re AE camera.
36 K Maki ng M ulti ple Exp osur e s Exposing th e same frame of film w it h two or more images is an exciting technique used by many photographers to create dream-l ike scenes, abstra ct designs, motion studies, or humorous pictures.
• In shooting fire w ork s, the recommended way to record multiple bursts on the same frame is not by using the multip le e x po sure but ton, but by mou nt- ing the camera on a tripod, sett ing the shu tter speed dial at "B" and ho ld ing the shut ter ope n with a cab le release.

M Ch a ngi n g L e nse s One of the n ice fea ture s of an SLR is i ts len s interchangeabi lity. An SLR is not real ly a S I NGLE LENS ref l ex at al l, bec aus e it c an us e many l ens es of various focal lengths. In the design of an SLR , the type of lens mo un t a nd its c onstruc tion are v e ry important f actors.
