Basic Printing 2 Basi c P r i n t i n g This Quick St art Guide describes some of the fe ature s of your printer and how to use them. For more info rmation, view the iP5200 User’s Guide and Printer .
Basic Printing 3 T urning off the Printer 1 T o turn off the printer , press the POWER button. When the POWER lamp stops bli nking, t he pr inter is turne d off. About the Power Plug When removi ng the power plug after turing off the printer , be sure to ch ec k that the POWER lamp is not lit.
Basic Printing 4 Loadi ng Pape r This section desc ribes how to load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder and the C assette. Print Media to Av oid Do not use the following types of paper. Us ing such paper w ill not only produc e uns atisf actory results, but can also c ause the printer to jam or malfunction.
Basic Printing 5 Us ing the Auto Sheet F eeder and the C assett e Y ou can load paper in both the Auto Sheet Feeder and C as sette. Loa ding paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder i s easy , and is convenient if y ou frequently switc h to an d print on various siz es or types of paper.

Basic Printing 8 3 Load the paper. z Y ou can use g eneral c opy p aper or C anon’s Super White P aper . z Y ou can load up to 150 sheets of pl ain paper (64 gsm or 17 lb, 13 mm or 0.52 inches in height) in the Auto Sheet Feeder . However , do not stac k more th an 50 sheets in the Paper Output T ray .

Basic Printing 10 Lo ading Other Sma ll- Sized P aper in the Auto Sheet F eeder Cutting pl ain paper to 4" x 6" / 101 .6 mm x 152.4 mm, 5" x 7" / 127.0 x 177.8 mm, or 2.13" x 3. 39" / 54.0 x 86 .0 mm (Credit C ard) size for a trial printing can cause paper j ams.
Basic Printing 11 Loadin g Plain P a per in the Ca ssette Ensure that the paper is loadab le in the Ca ssette. Le gal-sized paper and 2.13" x 3.
Basic Printing 12 3 Adj ust t he size o f t he Casse tte. When loading A5- or larger siz ed paper (n onstandar d-siz e paper: 203 mm / 8 inches or more in length), extend the Cas sette. When loading 5" x 7"- or smaller sized paper (nons tandard-s ize paper: les s than 203 mm/ 8 inches in length), do not extend the Cassette.

Advanced Printing 28 Adv anc ed Printing Printing Photographs Dir ectly from a PictBridg e C ompliant Dev ic e C onnecting a Pi ctBridge compliant device suc h as a digital c amera, camc order or mobile phone to the printer allows you to print recorded im ages directly without using a c omputer.
Advanced Printing 29 C onnecting to a PictBridg e C ompliant Dev ic e T o connect a PictBridge c ompliant devic e to this printer , use the USB cable supplied with the dev ic e.
Advanced Printing 30 4 C onnect the PictBridge c ompliant devic e to the printer. Depending on the model or br and of your dev ice, y ou may have to select a print mode compliant with PictBridge before c onnecting the devic e. Y ou may also h ave to turn on the devic e or select Play mode manual ly after connecting the devic e to the printer.
Advanced Printing 31 (3) T urn on and set up the device for direct printing. When the connection between the devic e and printer has been est ablished, the POWER lamp on the printer fl ashes twic e. * The power-on seque nce may differ dependin g on the model or brand of the dev ice.

Advanced Printing 33 About “Layout” and “T rimming” By def ault, Borderles s is selected for Layout and Off (No trimming) is selected for T rimming for this printer . When printing onto Photo Stic kers (16-up), use the follow ing settings. 1. Select the Auto Sheet Feeder a s the paper sourc e.
Advanced Printing 34 Other Settings If you use a C anon PictBridge-c ompliant device, y ou can use the following print settings. (Note that these print settings cann ot be used for some models.) For det ails, refer to your devic e’s instruction manual.
Advanced Printing 35 Ac ces sing the Print er Driver (Window s) The printer properties dialog box c an be open ed from either within an app licat ion, or directly from the W indows Start menu. This manua l refers to Windows XP SP2 operation. The operations m ay vary depending on the version of your W indows operating system.
Advanced Printing 36 3 Open the File menu and select Printing Preferences (or Properties ). The printer properties dialog box opens. When opening the printer properties dialog box fr om Properties , the tabs related to the Windows function (e.g., the Por ts tab, or th e De tails tab) are displa yed.
Printing Maintenance 37 Printing Mainten anc e Rep lac ing an Ink T ank Repl ace ink t ank(s) if they are out of ink. When replac ing them, c heck the model number s and their install ation position s.
Printing Maintenance 38 Getting the Ink L evel Information Ink Level Indic ation on the Printer Y ou can confirm the ink l evel in eac h ink tank through the ink tank l amps. Open the T op C over of the printer to see how the ink t ank lamps light or fla sh.

Printing Maintenance 40 Knowing When t o Replac e Ink T anks The ALARM lamp fla shes orang e four times once any one of the ink t anks i s out of ink. If ink is out during printing, a mes sag e will be di splayed on y our PC. Check t o see which ink tank is out of ink, and repl ace it w ith a new one.
Printing Maintenance 41 z If printing has not finished, y ou can contin ue printing for a while by pressin g the RESUME/CANCEL b utton on the print er with the empt y ink tank in stalled. However , you wil l need to replac e it with a new one as soon a s printing finishes.
Printing Maintenance 42 Repla cing Ink T an ks When an ink tank run s out of ink, replac e it using the follo wing step s. 1 Ensure that the print er is on, and then open the Paper Output T ray . Push the Open Button abo ve the Paper Output T ray .
Printing Maintenance 43 4 Prepare a replac ement tank. (1) Unpac k the new ink tank and completely pu ll off the orang e tape. Then, remove the film complet ely . (2) Remov e the orang e protectiv e cap from the bottom of the ink tank and di scard it.
Printing Maintenance 44 5 Insert the ink tank. (1) Insert the ink tank into the Print Head. (2) Press on the mark on the ink tank until the ink tank sn aps firmly int o plac e. (3) Ensure th at the ink tank lamp lights red. Ensure th at all the ink tank s are ins tall ed in the order directed by the label.
Printing Maintenance 45 6 C lose the Inner C over and the T op Co ver . The Print Head Holder move s to the right. The ink tank inst allation pr oce ss is now com pl e te . z Ensure th at the Inner C over is closed. Printing w ill not oc cur if the Inner Cov e r i s o p e n .
Printing Maintenance 46 When Printing Bec omes Faint or C olors are Inc orrect Wh e n p r in t in g be co m es fa i n t o r col o rs a re in co rr ect, even if ink remains in the ink tank s, the Print Head nozzles are probably clogged. Foll ow the procedures below to cl ean the nozzles.
Printing Maintenance 47 Printing the Nozz le Chec k Patt ern Print the nozzle c heck patt ern to determine whether the ink ejects properly from the Print Head nozz les. Use thi s function when printed results are b lurred or the color i s incorrect. z Ensure that the Inner C over is closed.
Printing Maintenance 48 4 Print the Nozzle Chec k Pattern. (3) Read the me ssag e and clic k Print Check P attern . The nozzle c he c k pattern will be printed. Cl i cki n g Initial Chec k Items displ ays the it ems to be c heck ed before printing the pattern.

Printing Maintenance 50 Examining the Nozz le Chec k P attern The nozzl e chec k pattern should appe ar as fo llows when ink is di sc harg ed properly . Examine the nozzl e c heck pattern outp ut by the printer, and clean the Print Head when neces sary .
Printing Maintenance 51 2 When cleaning i s nec ess ary, clic k Clea ning on the Pattern Chec k dialog box. If you want to c ontinue to clean the Print Head from here, go to step 3-(3) of the Windows or Macintosh Print Hea d C leanin g proc edures as appropriate.
Printing Maintenance 52 Print Head C leaning C lean the Print Head if mis sing lines or white stripes appe ar in the nozzle c heck pattern. Note that cle aning the Print Head c auses wa ste ink to be absorbed in the waste ink absorber . Cleani ng the Print He ad con sumes ink, so perform Print Head C leaning only when neces sary .

Troubleshooting 74 Paper Jams Landscape Credit Card-s ized Paper Jams inside the Printer Y ou cannot load Credit Card-sized paper in the landscape orientation. Remove the paper following the procedure below. 1. Load a sheet of Cr edit Card- sized p aper in the Auto Sheet F eeder.
Troubleshooting 75 Pape r Jam s Paper jam s insid e the printer (T ransport Unit) Remove the p aper acc ording to the fo llowing p rocedure. 1. Open the Rear C over . 2. When you can see the j ammed paper, slowly pul l the paper out. Be careful not to touch the components inside the prin ter.
Troubleshooting 76 Pape r Jam s Paper jam s insid e the printer (Duplex T ransport Section) Remove the p aper acc ording to the fo llowing p rocedure. 1. Remove the Cassette. If the paper i s loaded in the Auto Sheet F eeder , remove the p aper from the Auto Sheet Feeder an d close the Pape r Support.
