4 T ouch Control Dial Placing a finger on the touch control dial displays the playback mode and shooting mode touch icons on the LCD monitor. Y ou can confirm the functions assigned to each button.
5 Indicators The camera indicators light or flash under the following circumstances. Right Indicator Green: Ready to shoot Blinking Green: Image recording/reading/erasing/transfer ring (when conne.
6 1. Charging the Battery . Charge the battery before use under the following cir cumstances. • When using the battery for the first time. • When the "Change the battery pack" message displays. 1. Insert the battery into the b attery charger .
7 2. Installing the Battery . 1. Slide the lock release switch in the direction of the arrow ( ), and open the me mory card slot/battery cover ( ). 2. Push the battery lock in the direction of the arrow ( ) and insert the battery until it locks.
8 T o Re mov e the Memor y Card Use a finger to push the m emory card in until you hear a click, then release it. Y ou can use SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards and Mul tiMediaCards with this cam era. These card s are collective ly called memory card s in this guide.
9 Fir st Time Settings Setting the Da te/Time 1. Press the power button ( ) . 2. Use the or button to select an ite m and the or button to change its value ( ). T o set the daylight saving option, select the icon and use the or button to configure the setting.
10 1. Press the power button. The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display in the LCD monitor . • Pressing the power button again turns the power off. • T o switch to the setting that mutes all sounds (except for the warning sound), press and hold the DISP .
11 2. Press the shutter b utton fully to shoot. The shutter sound will play and the image will record. The indicator will blink green while the image is recorded to the memory card. Re viewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.
12 Shooting Modes AUTO The camera automatically selects settings. MANUAL Manual Allows you t o select setti ngs yourself, suc h as the exposure compensation, white balance, my col ors or ISO speed. Digital Macro Allows you to shoot when t he distance from the lens ( at maximum wide angle) to the subjec t is within 5 – 50 cm (2.
13 SPECIAL SCENE Beach Shoots without making people appear dark near water or sand where reflected sunli ght is strong. Fireworks Captures fireworks in the sky sharply and at optimal exposure. Aquarium Selects the optimal ISO speed, white balance and color balance to capture fish and other i tems in an indoor aquarium.

15 Shooting Close-Ups/Infinity Shots 1. Press the / bu tton ( ) and use the or button to switch between modes ( ). T o Cancel: press the / button and use the or button to display .
16 Using the Self-Timer 1. Press the button ( ) and use the or button to display , or ( ). • When the shutter button is pressed fully , the self- timer will activate and the self-timer lamp will blink (when using red-eye reduction, it will stay lit for the last 2 seconds).
17 Changing the Delay T ime and Number of Shots ( ) 1. In the [ (Rec)] menu, select [Self-timer] and press the FUNC./ SET button. 2. Use the or button to select [Delay] or [Shots] and the or button to change the setting and press the FUNC./SET button.
18 1. T urn the mode dial to (playback) ( ). The last image that was played back appears (Resume Playback). If additional images were shot after viewing images in p layback mode, the last image that was shot w ill appear instead.
19 1. In the playback mode, use the or button to select an image to erase ( ) and press the button ( ). Y ou can a lso select an image with the touch control dial. 2. Confirm that [Erase ] is selected and press the FUNC./SET button ( ). T o exit instead of erasing, select [Cancel].
20 Settings for the shooting or playback modes or such camera settings as the print settings, date/time and sounds are set using the FUNC. menu or the Rec., Play , Print, Set up or My Camera me nu. FUNC. Menu This menu sets many of the common shooting functions.
21 R ec., Play , Print, Set u p and My Camera Men us Convenient settings for shooting, playback o r printing can be set with these menus. Press the MENU button. Use the or button to switch between m enus. • Y ou can also use the zoom lever to switch between menus.
22 Y ou can easily print by conn ecting the camera to a direct print compatible printer *1 with a cable and simply pressing the button on the camera. 1.
23 2. Set the camera to the playback mode, turn on the power and c onfirm that , or i s displayed in the upper left of the LCD monitor ( ). • The b utton will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary according to the pr inter model. • will display in th e movie mode.
24 The following methods can be used to download images recorded by the camera to a computer . Some methods, depending on the OS used, may not be available.

26 Preparing to Download Images Items to Prepare • Camera and computer • Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk supplied with the camera • Interface cable supplied with the camera 1. Inst all the software. 1. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer's CD-ROM drive.
27 2. Connecting the camera to a computer . 1. Connect the supplied interface cable to the compu ter's USB port and to the camera's DIGIT AL t erminal. Slip a fingernail under the bottom edge of the camera's DIGIT AL terminal cover , lift up and plug the interface cable in all the way .
28 Downlo ading Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and computer . 1. Select [Canon CameraWindow] and click [OK] (first time only). 2. Download the images. • Download the images using the camera or the computer .
29 Downloadi ng Images to a Computer The following window will appear when you establish a con nection between the camera and computer . If it fails to appear , click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the deskto p).
30 Downloading Images Using the Camer a (Direct T ransfer) Use this method to download images using camera oper ations. Install the supplied software and adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time (p. 26). 1. Confirm that the Direct T ransfer menu is displayed on the camera's LCD monitor .
31 Select & T r ansfe r/Wallpaper 2. Select or and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select images to download and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images will d ownload. The button will blink blue while downlo ading is in progress.
