1 1. Charging the Battery . Charge the battery before use under the following circumstances. • When using the battery for the first time. • When the "Change the battery pack" message displays. 1. Insert t he battery into the battery charger.
2 2. Inst alling the Battery . 1. Slide the memo ry card slot/battery cover and open it ( , ). 2. Push the bat tery lock in the direction of the arrow ( ) and insert the battery until it loc ks. T o remove the battery , push the battery lock in the direction of the arrow ( ) and hold it while pulling the battery out.
3 T o Remo ve the Memor y Card Push the memor y card with you r finger or th e toggle on the w rist strap u ntil the memory card clicks and then re lease it. Y ou can use SD* memory cards and MultiMedi aCards with this ca mera. These ca rds are col lectively call ed memory ca rds in this guide.
4 Fir st Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the powe r button ( ). 2. Use the or button to select an item and the or button to change its value ( ). T o set the daylight saving option, use the or button to display . 3. Confirm th at the correct time is displayed and press the FUNC.
5 1. Press the power butto n. The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display in the LCD monitor . • Pressing the power button ag ain turns the power off. • T o switch to the setting that mutes all sounds (except for the war ning sound), press and hold the DISP .
6 2. Press the shutter bu tton fully to shoot. The shutter sound w ill play and the image will record. The indicator will blink green while the image is recorded to the me mory card. R e viewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, th e image appears in the LCD monitor for approximat ely 2 seconds.
7 Shooting Modes Still Images Auto The camera automatically se lects settings. Manual Allows you to select set tings yoursel f, such as the exposure compensati on, white balance or photo effect. Stitch Assis t A l l o ws y o u to shoot overlapping images that can l ater be merged (stitched) to create one panoramic image on a computer.

9 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoom lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 35 – 105 mm (focal length) in 35mm film equivalent terms. Wide Ang le: Zooms out from the subject. T elephoto: Zooms in on the subject. Using the Flash 1. Press the button to cycl e through flash settings.
10 Shooting Close-Ups/Infinity Shots 1. Press the / button to switch modes. T o cancel the macro/infinity mode: press the / button to remove or from the display . These settings cannot be set in some shooting modes. Macro Use this mode to shoot close-ups of flow ers or small items.
11 1. Slide the mode switch to (playback). The last recorded image w ill appear in the LCD monitor . 2. Use the or button to display the image you wish to view. Use the button to move to the previous image and the button to move the next image. Holding the button down advances the images more rapidly , b ut shows them less clearly .

14 Y ou can easily print by connectin g the camer a to a direct p rint comp atible printer *1 with a cable and simply pressing the button on th e camera. 1. Connect the camera to a Direct Print compatible printer and turn on the printer's power .
15 2. Confirm that , or is displayed in the upper lef t of the LCD monitor ( ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary ac cording to the print er model. 3. Use the or button to select an image to print ( ) and press the button ( ).

18 Preparing to Download Images Items to Prepare • Camera and compu ter • Canon Dig ital Camer a Solution Dis k supplied wi th the camera • Interface ca ble supplied with the camera 1. Inst all the sof tware. 1. Place the Canon Digi t al Camera Solution Disk in the computer's CD-ROM drive.
19 2. Connecting the camera to a comput er . 1. Connect the supplied interface cable to the compu ter's USB port and to the camera's DIGIT AL termina l. 1. Use the t oggle on the wrist strap to open the terminal cover . 2. With the facing in the direction sh own, insert the interface cable all the way .
20 Downlo ading Images to a Computer A window allo wing you to set the pre ferences will app ear when a connection is establishe d between the camer a and computer . 1. Select [Canon CameraWindow] and click [OK] (fi rst time only). 2. Download the images.
21 Downl oading Images to a Computer The followin g window will appear when you establish a conne ction between the ca mera and computer. If it fails to appear , click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
22 Downloading Images Using the Cam era (Direct T ransfer) Use this meth od to download images using camera opera tions. Install the suppl ied software and adju st the computer set tings before usin g t h is me t h o d for t h e fi r s t t i me ( p . 1 8 ) .
23 Select & T r ansf er/Wallp aper 2. Select or and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select images to download and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images will download. The button will blink blue while downlo ading is in progress.
