The following guides are available. Refer to them as necessary according to the flowchart below. In this guide, the Basic Camera User Guide is called the Basic Guide , and the Advanced Camera Us er Guide is called the Advanced Guide .

4 Indicators The camera indicators will light or blink under the following conditions. z Power/Mod e Indicat or z Indicat or Attac hing/ Removing the L ens Cap Squeeze both sides of the lens cap ( a ), and remove ( b ). Always replace the lens cap after use.
5 Preparat ions 1. Installing the batteries. 1. Slide the memory card slot/battery cover lock ( a ) and open the cover ( b ). 2. Insert the 4 suppl ied AA-size alka line b atteri es, or separately sold AA-size NiMH batteries. 2. Inserting the mem ory card.
6 To Remove the Memory Card Push the memory card with your finger until the memory card clicks and then release it. Opening the LCD Monitor You can position the LCD monitor in t he following ways. 1. Move it right or left 180 degrees. 2. Tilt it forward 180 d egrees toward the lens or backward 90 degrees.
7 Preparat ions 3. Fold t he LCD monit or back ag ainst t he camera b ody unti l it clicks i nto pl ace. When the LCD monitor clicks into place, the image will display normally (not reversed). Turning the Power On/Off 1. T urn the m ode le ver to (Shooting) or (Playback) whil e pre ssing t he re lease button.
8 First Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Turn the camera on ( a ) in Shooti ng mode ( ) or Playback mode ( ). 2. Sele ct the item you wish to set using the W or X butto n and set its value using the S or T button ( b ). T o s et daylight saving time, select and set it w ith the S or T button.
9 Shooting Shooting (Still Images) 1. Turn the came ra on in S hooting m ode ( ) (p. 7). The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display on the LCD m onitor. However, when starting with the viewfinder display, the start-up image is not displayed and there is no start-up sound.
10 2. Press the shutter but ton fully (all the way ) to s hoot. The shutter sound will play , and the image will record. The indi cator will blink red while the ima ge is recorded to the memory card. Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.
11 Shooting Selecting a Shooting Mode 1. Set the mo de dial to the d esired mode ( a ). In the modes, u se the W or X button to select a s hooting mode ( b ).
12 Image Zone (Special Sc ene) You can shoot with the m ost appropriate settings for the scene . Snow Shoots wit hout a blue t inge and with out making peo ple appear dark aga inst a snowy backgro und. Folia ge Shoots tr ees and lea ves - such as new growth, autumn l eaves or blossoms - i n vivid colors.
13 Shooting Imag e Zone Stitch Ass ist Allows you to shoot overlapping image s that can later be merged (stitched) to crea te one panora mic imag e on a compute r. Movie No matte r what position th e mode dial is in , you can select f rom 4 different recording pixels/frame ra te settings a nd shoot movie s.
14 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoo m lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 36 – 432 mm (focal lengt h) in 35mm f ilm equivalent terms. W hile adjusting the zoom, a distance representing the focus range (rough guide) for AF (auto f ocus) appears below t he zoom bar.
15 Shooting * When r ed-eye re duction i s enabled ( Advanced Gu ide p. 42) , the red- eye reduction lamp lights wh en the flash fires. Red-eye re duction: T his feature reduces the e ffect of lig ht reflecting back from the eyes an d making th em appea r red.
16 Shooting Close-ups (Macro/ Super Macro) Use this mode to shoot close-ups of flowers or small it ems. This mode allows even closer shooting of the subject than Macro mode, magnifying the subject further. In addition, the background can be shot with different ef fects than when shooting in macro shooting mode.
17 Shooting • You cannot use the zo om in Sup er Macro mod e (the zoom level is fixed at m aximum wide angle). To cancel the macro mode, press button to display . Focusing distance and image area when shooting as close to the subject as possible * You can not use the zoom.
18 Using the Self-Timer 1. Press the / button ( a ) and use the W or X button to cycle through self-timer settings ( b ). • When the shutter button is pressed fully , the s elf-timer lamp will blink (when setting t he red-eye r eduction function, the self-timer lamp will blink and t hen stay lit for the last 2 seconds).
19 Shooting Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots () 1. (Rec.) Me nu [ Self-timer]. 2. Press the SET button. 3. Use the S or T button to select [Delay] o r [Shots ] and the W or X button to change the setting and press the SET button . 4. Press the MENU button .

21 Menus and Settings Settings for the shooting, playback or print modes or such camera settings as the date/time and sounds are set using the F UNC., Rec., Play, Print, Set up or My Camer a menu. FUNC. Men u This menu sets m any of the com mon shooting functions.
22 Rec., Play, Print, Set up and My Camera Menus Convenient set tings for shooting, playback or printi ng can be set with these menus. a Press the MENU button. b Use the W or X butt on to swit ch betwee n menus. • Y ou can also use t he zoom lever to switch between menus.
23 Printi ng Connect the camer a to a direct pr int compatible printer* 1 with a cable and simply press the button on t he camera. 1. Connect the ca mera to a di rect print compati ble printer and turn on the printer’s p ower.
24 2. Turn the camera on in Playback mode and confirm that , or is disp layed in the upper left of the LCD monitor ( a ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary according to t he printer model. • The icon w ill display for movies.
25 Downloading Images t o a Computer The following methods can be used to download images recorded by the camera to a computer. Some methods, depending on the OS used, may not be available.
26 System Requirements Please install the so ftware on a com puter meeting the following minimum requirements. 27 Downloading Images t o a Computer Preparing to Download I mages Items to Prepare • Camera and com puter • Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk supplied with t he camera • Interface cable supplied with the camera 1. Install t he software. 1.
28 2. Connecting the cam era to a c omputer. 1. Use the supplied interface cable to connect the computer ’ s USB port to the camera’s DIGIT AL terminal. Slip your fingernail under t he left end of the camera’s terminal cover , lift it open and plug the interface cable in all the way .
29 Downloading Images t o a Computer Downlo adi ng Image s to a Co mput er A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and computer. 1. Select [Canon C ame raWindow] and click [OK] (fi r st time o nly).
30 Down loading Images t o a Comp uter The following window will appear when you establish a c onnection between the camer a and computer. If it fails to appear, click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
31 Downloading Images t o a Computer Downloading Images Using the Cam era (Direct Transfer) Use this method to download images using camera operations. Install the supplied software an d adjust the compu ter settings before using this method for the first time (p.

33 Safety P recau tions Be sure to read, understand and follow the safety precautions below when using the ca mera, in order to pr event injury, burns or electrical shock to yourself and others. Be sure t o also read the saf ety precautions listed i n the Advanced Ca mera User Guide .
