1 Chapter 1 About your Storage Server Castelle’ s OfficeDirect Storag e Server .100 is designed to offer the growing business a s implified, cost-effective way to outfit an existing small LAN with som e of the mor e valuable features of a lar g e enterprise network.

15 Chapter 3 Administration O VERVIEW The Storage Ser v er administrator controls Storag e Server usage by creating and managing access -defined Users , Groups, and Shares. N OTE : AppleShare do es not support “Read- only “ access; access is always “Read-W rite.
16 S TORAGE S ERVER U SE R ’ S G UIDE Rememb er: • A Share can be accessed by only 1 Group, but a Grou p can access many Shares. •T h e admi n us er , and all users in the ad mini strator g rou p, have Read/W rite access to all shares and f olders.

20 S TORAGE S ERVER U SE R ’ S G UIDE Groups • V iew the current Groups, mod ify their access to Shares, and add or delete Users fro m any Group. • Create new G roups, or d elete existing Groups. Shar es • Create, delete and m odify Shares. A "Share" is a folder (directory) which Us ers can access.

25 Chapter 4 Windows Client Setup O VERVIEW The Sto rage Serv er supp orts W i ndow s cli ents running W indow s 95/ 98/2000, W indows NT 4. 0 or 2000 Profess io nal Editio n. This chapter will help you check and configure TCP/IP settings and access to the Stor age Server ’ s storage.

If a line like t he one high li ghted ( TCP/IP -> Network card ) is not listed, then you need to inst all the TCP/IP by selecting Add> Proto col>Micr osoft> TCP/IP>OK . 3. W ith the TCP/IP entry highlighted , click on the Pr operties button to bring up the TCP/IP Pr operties wind ow .

33 Chapter 5 Macintosh Client Setup R EQ UIREM ENTS • Macinto s h OS V ersion 7 .5 or later , with AppleS hare. • The Administrator must create a valid User Name on the Storage Server for each Mac user .

These must ma tch the values sto red on the Storage Server , or you will be denied access. If the Storage Server administ rator has not cr eated a us er n ame for you , click the Guest butto n.
35 Chapter 6 T roubleshooting W INDOWS Problem 1 : The Storage Ser ver Utility doesn 't list any Storage Servers. Recommendation 1: Ch e c k th e foll o win g : 1. The Storage Ser v er is properly inst all ed, LAN connection s are OK, power is ON.
36 S TORAGE S ERVER U SE R ’ S G UIDE 192.1 68 .0.2 54, with a Su bnet Mas k of 25 5.255.255.0. (The Storag e Server' s default IP Address is 1 92.168.0.2, with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255. 0). Remember that each de vice needs a unique IP Address, and the same Subnet Mask.
W INDOWS T ROUBLESHOOTING 37 4. If you DO have a rout er , ch eck that your Gateway IP Address is set correctly . Ask your LAN admin i strator for the correct val ue. Problem 4 : When I click on the Stora ge Server icon in Networ k N eighbor- hood, I get prompted for a password.
38 S TORAGE S ERVER U SE R ’ S G UIDE This can happen i f the amo unt of f r ee disk space is not suf ficient to spool (queue) the p rint job. Storage Usage can be check ed using the Stat us> Sto rage screen on the Administrator interface. If t his is the problem, you must delete some print jobs: 1.
M ACINTOSH T ROUBLESHOOTING 39 1. On the Storage Server's System>Printer screen , check the Printer Object T ype . If this is not cor rect, the Storage Server's printer will not be listed on the Macintosh. Check th e Printer's User Manual for this data, or contact the printer supplier .
