F or example: Suppose you ha ve an RIM-600 installed in room A and you want to install a sensor in room B.

This can be used to pro vide remote access to your netw ork via a dial-up connection to the RIM-600 Host. Note that there are serious security risks associated with enabling this feature.

Chapter 1: Installation 29 Chapter 1: Installation 29 Battery Maintenance The RIM-600 Host includes an inter nal UPS that automatically switches to batter y backup in the e vent of an A C po wer failure. The batter y in the RIM-600 Host is a 12V 2.9AH gel cell.

RIM-600 Manual 32 NODE INST ALLA TION & CONFIGURA TION Physical Description The RIM-600 Node is housed in a 9.6"w x 1.75"h x 7"d enclosure, which is 1 EIA rack-mount space high. Front Panel Layout The front panel contains connections for eight sensor inputs, microphone input, Ether net por t, serial port, and po wer LED .
Chapter 1: Installation 33 ON/OFF Switch The on/of f switch connects main po w er and batter y po w er to the system. In the e vent that main po wer fails, the backup batter y system will automatically po w er the system. Rear Panel The rear panel is where the main po w er cord exits the unit.
RIM-600 Manual 34 Battery Replacement The RIM-600 Node uses one (1) 6V 3.4AH rechargeab le battery (included) for backup po wer in the e vent that main po w er fails. The unit will constantly recharge the battery whene ver the po wer switch is tur ned on and the unit is plugged into a po w er supply .

RIM-600 Manual 36 an RJ-45 interconnect cable to connect the RIM-600 Node to the patch panel in room A, and an RJ- 45 interconnect cable from the wall jack in room B to the sensor . The sensor pr oduces an analog signal which must connect dir ectly to the Host or Node.

Chapter 2: Software 39 Chapter 2: RIM-600 Software Introduction This chapter is designed to help you program and use the RIM-600 to its fullest potential. The RIM-600 system helps you maintain, monitor , expedite and control the things that affect your information infrastructure.

RIM-600 Manual 44 Adding an Enterprise Group From the ConsoleV ie w menu, click on Enterprise and select Add Enterprise Gr oup . In the left-hand column, a New Enterprise Gr oup will appear . When you connect to the host, the Enter prise Name will update.
Chapter 2: Software 45 Setting the Unit Properties for the RIM-600 Host T o set the global proper ties of your RIM-600, right-click on the Host name and select Unit Pr operties. On the System Info tab, enter the Unit Name, Description and Location. These param- eters will be used when sending alar ms to identify the unit.

V alue : This is the cur rent value of the sensor connected to the channel (only valid for analog sensor types).

RIM-600 Manual 54 Environmental Input Alarm Logic Each en vironmental input will automatically detect the type of sensor connected (temperature, humidity , po w er , motion...). Analo g sensors will include high and lo w alar m limit programming options while tw o-state sensors (Nor mal/Alar m) will simply ha ve a recognition time.
Chapter 2: Software 55 conf igure the T emplates , click the plus box next to the w ord Settings to expand the options under this heading. Next, expand the Input T emplates . This will list all of the different sensor types. Figure 24: T emplate Types Right-click on each of the sensor names to bring up the individual T emplate programming screens.
RIM-600 Manual 56 Configuring IP Alarms IP Alarm Setup Each host or node can monitor up to 64 IP addresses through pinging and por t a v ailability . In addi- tion, IP dependencies can be programmed to pre vent multiple alar m messages from being sent when common netw ork paths are do wn.
Chapter 2: Software 57 Schedule : Click this button to bring up the Edit Schedule screen. This screen allo ws you to set times when the IP Alar m is enabled or disabled.
RIM-600 Manual 58 Alarm Logic Netw ork devices are monitored by the RIM-600 b y pinging/connecting to pro g rammed IP addresses about once a minute. The unit will only attempt to ping/connect to devices which are Enab led b y the Schedule . Each time the netw ork de vice responds, the RIM-600 updates the Last Response time.

RIM-600 Manual 60 Input/Alarm Classes Classes are used to associate en vironmental inputs and IP alar ms with people. Each input sensor or IP address must be assigned to a Class . Each person or User Pr of ile selects classes for which they ha ve responsibility .
Chapter 2: Software 61 Configuring User Profiles and Contacts Configuring User Profiles The User Prof ile section controls who has access to the RIM-600 and who gets contacted when an alar m occurs.
RIM-600 Manual 62 The “Enable This Prof ile” option pro vides a con venient wa y to temporaril y enable or disable a User Prof ile. When a Prof ile is disabled (unchecked), no alar ms or repor ts will be sent to that user , and the user will not be per mitted to lo g on to the system.

Chapter 2: Software 65 V oice Calls F or most voice calls you can simply enter the telephone number of the person you want called. Consider the location of the RIM-600 Host when entering the number . If an area code is required to call from the Host to your telephone, be sure to include it.
RIM-600 Manual 66 Fax Calls Enter the telephone number of the fax machine. E-mail Enter the e-mail address. SNMP Enter the SNMP ser ver IP address in numeric for m (e.g. 192.168.0.1) Schedule Click the Schedule button to bring up the Schedule screen for this Contact.
Chapter 2: Software 67 Saving and Loading Programming The pro g ramming in your RIM-600 can be sa ved to a f ile. This giv es you the ability to back up your programming or cop y the same pro g ramming to another RIM-600 unit.

RIM-600 Manual 70 Alarm Message Pop-Ups While online with one or more RIM-600 units through the ConsoleV ie w Softw are, you can ha ve an alar m message pop up on your computer screen whene ver an alar m occurs. This could be an en vironmental or IP alar m on any Host or Node.
Chapter 2: Software 71 Setting Pop-Up T ext Location When using custom pop-up messages you must specify where these messages will be located. T o do this, right-click on the name of your host within the menu tree and select Alarm P op-Up Notice Location .

(h) The DNS ser ver IP address is programmed incor rectly in the RIM-600 Netw ork Conf iguration settings. RIM-600 Manual 76 Up to 128 cameras can be conf igured in a RIM-600 system. These can be a mix of Axis cameras, Axis camera ser vers, and Panasonic devices. Once the camera(s) ha v e been conf igured they can then be associated with a par ticular Host or Node so that links for these cameras will appear within the menu tree for the chosen unit.

Most Firmware updates will be included as par t of a complete RIM-600 installation upg rade.
