Safety instructions The safety of AEG appliances complies with the industry standards and with legal requir ements on the safety of appliances. However , as man- ufacturer s, we feel it is our duty to provide the following safety notes. Gener al safety • Repairs to the machine must be carried out only by qualified per son- nel.
Child safety • Children ar e often not aware of how danger ous electrical appliances can be. When the machine is working, children should be car efully supervised and not be allowed to play with the appliance - there is a risk that they could become trapped inside.
Disposal Packaging materials The materials marked with the symbol are r ecyclable. >PE< =polyethylene >PS< =polystyrene >PP< =polypropylene This means that they can be recycled by disposing of them pr operly in appropriate collection container s.

11 Position at 40°C = Easy to iron. In this position the laundry is gently washed and spun to avoid any creasing. In this way ir oning is easier . Position = cold wash Position = reset pr ogramme/swi.
12 Description of the appliance Pr ogramme Option buttons Depending on the progr amme, different functions can be combined. These must be selected after choosing the desired pr ogramme and before depr essing the START/P AUSE button. When these buttons are pr essed, the corresponding pilot lights come on.
13 SPIN SPEED Press this button to r educe the maximum speed of the final speed proposed by the machine for the selected pr ogramme or to select option (RINSE HOLD). The maximum spin speed for cotton is 1 000 rpm, for syn- thetics and wool 900 rpm and for delicates 7 00 rpm.
Pr ogramme pr ogress display By selecting the wash progr amme, the pilot lights corre- sponding to the various phases making up the pro- gramme come on. After the machine has started, only the running phase pilot light stays on. When the progr amme has finished, the END pilot light comes on.
Cancelling a pr ogramme To cancel a pr ogramme which is running, turn the pr ogramme selector dial to the RESET O position. Warning! After a pr ogramme which ends with water in the drum (RINSE HOLD option), turn the selector dial first to O and then to the DRAIN progr amme “C” .
Deter gent dispenser drawer Compartment for prewash or soak deter gent and stain remover . The prewash or soak detergent is added at the beginning of the wash pr ogramme. The stain remover is added during the ST AIN-Action phase in the main wash. Compartment for powder or liquid detergent used for main wash.
Pr eparing the wash cycle Sorting out and pr eparing the laundry • Sort out the laundry accor ding to type of fabrics and care labels (see “Types of fabric and car e labels”). • Empty pockets. • Remove any metal parts (safety pins, clips, etc.
W eight of laundry T ypes of fabric and care labels The labels on garments help you to select the most suitable wash pro- gramme. The laundry should be sorted out accor ding to the type of fab- ric and the instructions indicated on care labels. Temper atures indicated on labels ar e always maximum temperatur es.
Delicates Microfibr es, synthetics or curtains marked with these symbols requir e a very gentle treatment. The DELICATES pr ogramme is suitable for this type of fabric. Woollens and particularly delicate items Fabrics such as wool, wool mix or silk marked with this symbol are par- ticularly sensitive to machine washing.
Deter gents and additives Which deter gent and additive? Use only detergents and additives for washing machines. Follow the manufacturer’ s instructions.
21 How to wash Load the laundry Open the door . Place the laundry in the drum, one item at a time. Distribute laundry as evenly as possible. Close the door . Add deter gent and additive Pull the drawer out till it stops. P our the main wash detergent into compart- ment .
Selection of the desir ed wash progr amme Turn the pr ogramme selector dial to the desired position: the lights corresponding to the differ ent phases making up the selected progr amme light on. The display shows the duration of the progr amme. Selection of the desir ed options depending on the degree of soil of the laundry .
EXTRA RINSE This appliance is designed for saving water . However , for people with a very delicate skin (allergic to deter gents) it may be necessary to rinse the laundry using an extra quantity of water (extr a rinse). The extra rinse is available only with the cotton, synthetics or delicate progr amme.
Starting the pr ogramme 1. Check that the water tap is open. 2. Press ST ART/PAUSE to start the pr ogramme. If the Delay Start option has been selected the progr amme will start at the end of the count- down. If the door light is red and flashing at the start of the pr o- gramme it indicates that the door is open.
25 How to wash At the end of the pr ogramme The machine stops automatically . A zer o appears on the display . An acoustic signal is clearly audible. The END light comes on in the pr o- gramme pr ogress display . If the light (OVERDOSAGE) comes on it indicates that too much detergent has been used.
26 Pr ogramme chart W ash progr ammes In compliance with EC directive 92/75, the consumption figur es indicat- ed on the energy label r efer to the 60°C wash progr amme for cotton with a load of 4 kg.
Pr ogramme chart Special pr ogrammes * The consumption data shown on this chart is to be considered pur ely indicative, as it may vary depending on the quantity and type of laundry , on the inlet water temperatur e and on the ambient temperatur e. It refer s to a load of 4 kg for cotton items.
Cleaning and maintenance After each wash At the end of the wash progr amme, pull the dispenser drawer out a lit- tle to let it dry . Leave the door ajar to allow air to circulate. If the machine is not used for a prolonged period: Close the water tap and unplug the appliance.
Door seal Check from time to time the door seal and eliminate eventual possible objects that could be trapped in the fold. Dr ain filter The drain filter collects thr eads and small objects inadvertently left in the laundry . Check r egularly that the filter is clean.
30 Cleaning and maintenance Emer gency emptying out If the water is not discharged (pump is blocked, filter or dr ain pipe are clogged), proceed as follows to empty out the machine: • pull out the p.
Something not working? If during the spin cycle the machine makes an unusual whistling noise, different fr om the noise made by tradi- tional washing machines, this is due to a new type of motor . If water is not visible in the drum, this is due to the modern technology of new washing machines that use less water than traditional machines.

37 Instructions for installation and electrical connection Safety instructions for the installer • This appliance is heavy , care should be taken when moving it. • When unpacking the appliance, check that it is not damaged. If in doubt, do not use it and contact the retailer .

Installation Unpacking All transit bolts and packing must be r emoved before using the appli- ance. Using a spanner , unscr ew and remove the rear right-hand bolt and lay the machine on its back, taking care not to squash the hoses. This can be avoided by placing one of the corner packing pieces between the machine and the floor .
P ositioning Install the machine on a flat hard floor . Make sure that air cir culation around the machine is not impeded by carpets, rugs etc. • Befor e placing it on small tiles, apply a rubber coating. • Never try to corr ect any unevenness in the floor by putting pieces of wood, cardboar d or similar materials under the machine.
W ater drainage The end of the drain hose can be positioned in three ways: Hooked over the edge of a sink using the plastic hose guide supplied with the machine. In this case, make sure the end cannot come unhooked when the machine is emptying. This could be done by tying it to the tap with a piece of string or attaching it to the wall.
P ermanent connection In the case of a permanent connection it is necessary that you install a double pole switch between the appliance and the electricity supply (mains), with a minimum gap of 3 mm between the switch contacts and of a type suitable for the requir ed load in compliance with the current electrical regulations.
