19 Guidelines The PROT ECT B. com plies with the product norm EN 50091. The CE symbol on the unit c ertifies the compliance to the EG guideline s for 73/23 EEC low voltage and for 89/336 EEC electromagnetic com patibility (EMC), when follow ing the installation instruc tions in the manual.
20 4 Set-Up and Operatio n 4.1 Unpacking and Inspe ction The unit has been fully tested and inspected. Altho ugh the unit has been packed and s hipped with the us ual degree of c are, damage during transport cannot be ruled out completely .
21 Please keep the plastic pack aging bags away from babies and children in order to safeguard against suffocation accidents. Handle the c omponents with care. Please tak e into account their weights. It m ay be necessary to engage the help of a sec ond person, particularly in the case of the PROTECT B.

26 5 Commissioning 5.1 Deployment The UPS was cons tructed for both horizonta l / flat (rack /19") operation and v ertical / standing (tower) operation. Operation the unit for longer tim e above an ambient tem perature of 25° C reduces the lifetim e of the batteries.
27 W hen operating the s y stem with more than one battery module, the U PS c an be positioned between the m odules. The following graphic displa ys the possibiliti es: PROTECT B. 1500 / 2000 standing and lying (standard version) PROTECT B. 3000 can be operated in the standing and ly ing position as w ell.
28 5.1.2 19" Rack Mo unt Setup ROTECT B. 750, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 can be installed in 19” rack s. The UPS and external battery enclosure need 2U of valuable rack s pace. Mount the UPS preferable in the lower third of the rack with respect to the m ass centre and suf ficient ventilati on.
29 4. Add up the front panels for both sides. The mec hanical install ation of the UPS is completed now. PROTECT B. 1500 und B. 2000 This model is designed such that the UPS and the battery module can be m ounted beside ea c h other into the r ack.
30 1. Place the UPS on a f lat and in a clean place that the front side of the UPS is facing to y ou. 2. Loosen the screws in the m iddle of the cover and remove the covers f rom both units. 3. Fix the ( wide) m ounting brack et to the open front. Rack mounting holes stand out on each side of the units.

32 PROTECT B. 3000 / B. 3000 BP For m ounting the 3000 VA UPS in a 19” rack fix the m ounting ears to the UPS and install the unit to the rails. Do the sam e for the optional battery module. 5.2 A dditional battery installation setup PROTECT B. 1500, 2000 und 3000 include external battery ports that allow connecting additional battery m odules.
33 PROTECT B. 3000 Connect the supplied battery m odule cable from extended battery m odule to the external battery port of the rear of UPS. If continuing to add up extended battery module, repeat above steps. 5.3 Emergency Power Off (EP O) set up PROTECT B.

36 6. After selecting the mode, press the confirm ation button more than thr ee seconds to complete the configuation. 5.5 Operation Once y ou have connected the UPS to a suitable m ains connection, y ou c an start operation using the UPS m ain switch.
37 If the UPS does not automatically r eturn to norm al operation after a f ew m inutes, close all jobs as usual and switch off y our loads (e.g. PC) before the battery is fully discharged. T his lengthens the service life of the battery ! Switch OFF the UPS by press ing the main switch .
38 Also avoid short-ter m unit overloads, which m ay, f or exam ple, occur when connecting a laser printer or laser fax m achine. Do not connect any household applian c es to the UPS. Never connect any additional loads to the UPS if there is a m ains f ailure, i.
39 Executing the Test: ♦ To execute the m anual check press the button for about five seconds until the UPS acoustic signal f ades out. ♦ Additional ly the button has the f unction to deactivate the acoustic alarm signal. Press the button when the acoustic alarm it audi ble for about 1 second.
40 5.6.2 Computer interfaces RS232 and USB The UPS off ers various interfaces to m anage the s y stem and to comf ortable readout s tate inform ation and important parameters. T he pr otocol is optim ize d for operation with the shutdown and U PS m anagement software “ CompuW atch” from AEG.
41 In com bination with the intelligent UPS the software ensures high avai lability of all IT c omponents and full data integrity . 47 Fan control The fan has to be c hecked on a r egular basis for dus t intrusion and s trange unty pical sounds. Clogged ventilatio n has to be c leaned.
48 PROTECT B. 750 and B.1000 1. Unscr ew the two screws on the side and rem ove the front panel carefully on both ends. Mak e sure that the panel does not ti lt too m uch. 2. Disconnect the battery c able from the UPS and rem ove the battery retaini ng battery bracket to the right so that the battery can be pulled out to the f ront.
49 5. Close and reinstall the front panel. T ake care to push it in f irm ly and fix the front panel with the two sc rews f rom the beginni ng. PROTECT B. 1500 und B. 2000 1. Unscr ew the two screws from the battery cas e and remove f ront panel by pullin g on both ends.
50 3. W ithdraw the new batteries from the transport container and put into the right position. Fix both blocks together and connect the electric connections of the extracted battery system. 4. Slide the new battery caref ully into shaft of the UPS until th e end.

52 8 Sto rage, Dismantling and Disposal Storage Long storage tim es without charging or discharging the battery at regular intervals m ay lead to permanent damage of the battery. If the battery is stored at room tem perature (20 0 C to 30 0 C) it will automatically di s charge at a rate of 3-6 % per month due to internal r eactions.
