4 Introduction The D-Link DVG-1402S High-Sp eed VoIP Rout er Links tradition al telephon y networks to IP network s with conventional tel ephon y devices such as anal og phones or f ax machines. It can red uce long dist ance phone charg es and deli ver toll-qualit y voice communication o ver the IP network.
5 Rear Panel Connections Phone Connections Connect to your phones using standard phone cabling. All Ethernet Por ts (WAN and LAN) are auto MDI/MD IX, meaning you can use either a straight-through or a crossover Etherne t cable. Auto MDI/M DIX LAN Ports Connect the Ethernet cable from computers on your LAN to these ports.
6 Front Panel LEDs Powe r LED A solid light indicates a valid connection to the power supply. Status LED A blinking LED indicates the DVG-1402S is functioning properly. W AN LED An active LED indicates a lin k has been established. A blinking LED indicates activity on the W AN port.

8 Installation For a typical set up at home, pleas e do the followi ng: 1. You will need broa dband Internet ac cess (a Cable o r DSL-subscr iber line into your hom e or office) 2. Consult with your Cable or DSL provider for proper installat ion of the modem 3.
9 Using the Configuration Wizard W henever you want to configure your network or the DVG-1402 S, you can access the Configuration Menu b y opening the web-bro wser and typing in th e IP Addres s of the DVG-1402S.
10 Home > W AN Dynam ic Choose D ynam ic IP Address to obtain IP Addres s inf ormation automaticall y f rom your ISP. T his option shou ld be s elected if your ISP has not suppli ed y ou with an IP addres s. T his opt ion is commonl y used for Cable m odem s ervices.

15 Home > L AN LAN is short for Local Area Network. This is c onsidered your interna l net work. These are th e I P s ettings of the LAN interface f or th e D VG-1402S and m a y be referred to as Private s ettings. You ma y change the LAN IP address if needed.

20 Home > VoIP > STU N Configuratio n STUN is useful if y ou n eed to use th e DVG- 1402S behind a modem or router that provides th e conn ection to y our IS P and then to the Internet and does not s upport symetric NAT . You will n eed access to a STUN server on the Internet and its IP address to use ST UN on the DVG-1 402S.

Index Use this field to assign line 1 or line 2 telephone sock ets (on the back of the router) to the inf ormation e ntered i n the User Agent.

24 Home > VoIP > Sp eed Dial Index A number used to i dentif y the current speed dial table entry. Dial Code A numerical cod e that w ill correspond to t he phone number entered in th e field b elow. You will dial this number, and the router will dial the correspondi ng telephone number.
25 Home > VoIP > M isc. Instead of adding additional lines to handle dif ferent telephone numbers , distinctive rings can be set to a llow m ore than one telepho ne num ber to reach the sam e line. Calls com ing in on differ ent numbers on the sam e line can be id entified b y their distinctive ring patter n.
26 Home > VoIP > M isc. > Ring Cad ence Duration This field is used to limit the amount of times that the ring pattern will repeat itself. For example, if a ring pattern is set for 16 seconds.

42 Advanced > N AT > NAT Configurat ion NAT Interfac e IP Address T his field displays the current IP address of the LAN side of the router. All IP address that are translated b y the router will be in the sam e range as this IP address.

Global IP Start/ End Enter the range of IP addresses that will be as signed to your Internet account b y your ISP . 46 Tools > S ystem Backup Click Backup to backup the configuration file t o your local hard drive. To restore the c onfiguration f ile click on Browse t o search the local h ard drive an d locate the c onfiguration f ile to be used f or the conf iguration restor ation.
47 Tools > Firmw are You can update both the software and firmware of the Router. Please ch eck the D-Link Support s ite for firmware updates at htt p://suppor t.dlink.com . You can dow nload firmware upgrades t o your hard drive from the D-Link support site.

49 Tools > Time The s y stem tim e is the time used by the DVG- 1402S for scheduling services. You can manuall y set the time, connect to a NT P (network time protocol) serv er or synchronize the tim e on the router with your PC. If an NTP server is set, you will only need to set the time zone (in the set u p wizard).
