100749 Install and use heater with care. Follow all local codes. In the absence of local codes, use the latest edition of the following: • National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.
100749 INST ALLING HEA TER Continued LOCATING HEATER W ARNING Maintain the minimum clearances shown in Figure 3, below. If you can, provide greater clearances.
100749 Note: Venting/chimney materials are not supplied with heater. VENTING HEATER INST ALLING HEA TER Continued W ARNING When venting this heater, follow the safety information listed below. • Never vent heater to another room or inside a build- ing.
100749 INST ALLING HEA TER Continued VENTING HEATER (continued) W ARNING Do not vent heater in any of the following ways (see Figure 4). Heater must be vented to the out- doors.
100749 VENTING HEATER (continued) INST ALLING HEA TER Continued Proper Size Vent To safely vent heater, the vent connector pipe must be the same diameter as the draft hood outlet on the rear of the heater. Pipe that is too small can cause flue gas to spill from the heater.
100749 INST ALLING HEA TER Continued CONNECTING TO GAS SUPPLY W ARNING A qualified service person must connect heater to gas supply. Follow all local codes. W ARNING Never connect heater to private (non-utility) gas wells. This gas is commonly known as well-head gas.
100749 Figure 7 - Gas Connection * An A.G.A. design-certified manual shutoff valve with 1/8" NPT tap is an acceptable alternative to test gauge connection. Purchase the optional A.G.A. design-certified manual shutoff valve from your dealer. See Accessories , page 31.
100749 INST ALLING HEA TER Continued CHECKING GAS CONNECTIONS W ARNING Test all gas piping and connections for leaks after install- ing or servicing. Correct all leaks at once. Pressure Testing Gas Supply Piping System Test Pressures In Excess of 1/2 PSIG 1.
100749 FRESH AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILA TION W ARNING This heater must have fresh air for proper operation. If not, poor fuel combustion and improper venting of flue gases will result. Carbon monoxide poisoning from backed-up flue gases could occur.
100749 FRESH AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILA TION Continued DETERMINING FRESH-AIR FLOW FOR HEATER LOCATION Example 1: Locating Heater in Unconfined (Open) Area NOTICE An unconfined area has a minimum air volume of 50 cubic feet for each 1000 BTU/Hr input rating of all appliances in the area (cubic feet equals length x width x height of area).
100749 FRESH AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILA TION Continued Figure 10 - Ventilation Air from Outdoors Draft Hood Spillage: This is a hazardous situation.
100749 FRESH AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILA TION Continued After providing ventilation between rooms, check for draft hood spillage (see Draft Hood Spillage Test , page 15). If draft hood spillage still occurs, provide more ventilation between rooms or provide permanent ventilation from outdoors.
100749 OPERA TING HEA TER A. This appliance has a pilot which must be lighted by hand. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly. B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.
100749 5. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B” in the safety information at the top of page 18. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step. 6. Remove lower front access panel on heater.
