1 CS-530 R ULES FOR SAFE OPERA TION A. Kickbac k Safety Precautions f or Chain Sa w Users 1.With a basic understanding of kickback, you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise.
2 CS-530 1.Do not operate a chain saw with one hand! Serious injury to the operator, helpers, bystanders, or any combination of these persons may result from one-handed operation. A chain saw is intended for two- handed use. 2.Do not operate a chain saw when you are fatigued.
3 CS-530 CONTENTS WARNING The safety alert symbol accompanied by the word “WARNING” calls attention to an act or condition which CAN lead to serious personal injury or death if not avoided. CIRCLE AND SLASH SYMBOL This symbol means the specific action shown is prohibited.
4 CS-530 T O A VOID KICKBA C K 1. Hold the chain saw firmly with both hands. 2 . Don’t let the nose of the guide bar contact any obstruction. 3. Tip contact may suddenly mo v e the guide bar upward and back ward, which ma y cause serious injur y .
5 CS-530 P A CKING LIST The ECHO product you purchased has been f actor y pre-assembled f or your con v enience. Due to packaging restrictions, guide bar and saw chain installation and other assembly ma y be necessary . After opening the car ton, check f or damage.

8 CS-530 VIBRA TION AND COLD • It is belie v ed that a condition called Raynaud’ s Phenomenon, which affects the fingers of certain individuals, ma y be brought about by e xposure to vibration and cold. Exposure to vibration and cold ma y cause tingling and burning f ollow ed by loss of color and numbness in the fingers .
9 CS-530 SP ARK ARREST OR MUFFLER • The spark arrestor muffler controls the e xhaust noise and prev ents hot, glowing par ticles of carbon from leaving the muffler . Make sure the spark arrestor screen is in good repair and properly seated in the muffler .

11 CS-530 5. Mount guide bar on studs and slide tow ard clutch to make sa w chain installation easier . Install chain with cutters on top of guide bar f acing f orward. 6. Unlock the chain brak e, and install the clutch cov er over the guide bar studs .

13 CS-530 HANDLING FUEL MIXING INSTRUCTIONS - 1. Fill an approv ed fuel container with half of the required amount of gasoline. 2. Add the proper amount of two-strok e oil to gasoline. 3. Close container and shake to mix oil with gasoline. 4. Add remaining gasoline, close fuel container , and remix.
14 CS-530 Oil tank cap Fuel tank cap Cap indication Fuel/oil tanks are indicated by the following illustrations. CHAIN LUBRICANT Proper lubrication of the chain while in operation reduces friction between the chain and the guide bar to a minimum and assures a longer service life .
15 CS-530 WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD CAUTION Make sure the bar and chain are free from any obstruction when starting the chain saw. • Mov e chain brak e le ver fully f orw ard to lock chain brak e before starting. • Fill the fuel tank with fuel mixture.

17 CS-530 CUTTING INSTR UCTION Kickback GENERAL CAUTION • Read the ECHO “CHAIN SAW SAFETY MANUAL” included with your chain saw for additional cutting and safety instructions. • Wear suitable hearing protection such as earmuffs or earplugs to protect against objectionable or uncomfortable loud noises.
18 CS-530 FELLING THE TREE A falling tree can seriously damage an ything it ma y hit - a car , a house, a f ence, a pow er-line, or another tree. There are wa ys to make a tree f all where you w ant it, so first decide where that is! Before cutting, clear the area around the tree .
19 CS-530 Uphill position Finish cut First cut LIMBING Limbing a fallen tree is m uch the same as b ucking. Ne ver stand on the tree that y ou are limbing. When limbing, caution is the word. Be careful of the tip touching other limbs. Alwa ys use both hands .
20 CS-530 Chain brake function When the lever is pushed forward, chain brake instantly stops the chain. Chain brake unlock When the lever is fully pulled, toward the operator, brake is unlocked. Kickback Kickback motion CHAIN BRAKE OPERA TION • Set the le ver in the unloc ked position before star ting to cut.
21 CS-530 End of the guide bar may be placed at the height of about 50 cm (20 in.). 50 cm (20 in.) A UT OMA TIC CHAIN BRAKE Kickbac k produced from the tip of the guide bar will trip the automatic chain brake . T o make sure that the automatic chain brake oper ates proper ly , f ollow these steps: 1.
22 CS-530 CHAIN AND GUIDE B AR COMBINA TION The f ollowing combinations are recommended f or model CS-530 . @ Standard configuration GUIDE B AR (Low-kic kback) Replacement guide bars. The f ollowing guide bars ma y be considered to hav e equivalent kickbac k energy .
23 CS-530 MAINTENANCE AND CARE IMPORTANT Time intervals shown are maximum. Actual use and your experience will determine the frequency of required maintenance. Y our ECHO chain saw is designed to pro vide many hours of trouble free service. Regular scheduled maintenance will help your chain sa w achiev e that goal.
24 CS-530 CARBURET OR ADJUSTMENT Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compliance with Emission Regulations. In addition, the carburetor is equipped with “H” (High Speed) and “L ” (Low Speed) needle adjustment limiters that pre vent settings outside acceptab le limits.

26 CS-530 GUIDE B AR • Clean bef ore using. - Clean the groov e of the guide bar with a small screwdriv er . - Clean oil holes with a wire . • Re verse guide bar periodically . • Check sproc ket and the clutch and clean the bar mount area before installation of the bar .

28 CS-530 NO TE These angles are referred to as Oregon 33SL or 95VP. To sharpen other follow chain manufacturer’s instruction. • Place the depth gauge tool firmly on guide bar so that depth gauge protrudes. Then file top of depth gauge with the flat file until flat with top of the depth gauge tool.
