1 CS-680 R ULES FOR SAFE OPERA TION A. Kickbac k Safety Precautions f or Chain Sa w Users 1.With a basic understanding of kickback, you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise.
2 CS-680 1. Do not operate a chain saw with one hand! Serious injury to the operator, helpers, bystanders, or any combination of these persons may result from one-handed operation. A chain saw is intended for two- handed use. 2.Do not operate a chain saw when you are fatigued.
3 CS-680 CONTENTS WARNING The safety alert symbol accompanied by the word “WARNING” calls attention to an act or condition which CAN lead to serious personal injury or death if not avoided. CIRCLE AND SLASH SYMBOL This symbol means the specific action shown is prohibited.
4 CS-680 T O A VOID KICKBA C K 1. Hold the chain saw firmly with both hands. 2 . Don’t let the nose of the guide bar contact any obstruction. 3. Tip contact may suddenly mo v e the guide bar upward and back ward, which ma y cause serious injur y .

8 CS-680 VIBRA TION AND COLD • It is belie v ed that a condition called Raynaud’ s Phenomenon, which affects the fingers of certain individuals, ma y be brought about by e xposure to vibration and cold. Exposure to vibration and cold ma y cause tingling and burning f ollow ed by loss of color and numbness in the fingers .
9 CS-680 SP ARK ARREST OR MUFFLER • The spark arrestor muffler controls the e xhaust noise and prev ents hot, glowing par ticles of carbon from leaving the muffler . Make sure the spark arrestor screen is in good repair and properly seated in the muffler .

11 CS-680 7. T ur n saw ov er , and check brake band f or correct position on clutch drum. If brake band is not in place around drum, remove co ver , make sure brake is unloc ked, and reinstall.

13 CS-680 HANDLING FUEL MIXING INSTRUCTIONS - 1. Fill an approv ed fuel container with half of the required amount of gasoline. 2. Add the proper amount of two-strok e oil to gasoline. 3. Close container and shake to mix oil with gasoline. 4. Add remaining gasoline, close fuel container , and remix.
14 CS-680 CHAIN LUBRICANT Proper lubrication of the chain while in operation reduces the friction between the chain and the guide bar to a minimum and assures a longer service life . • Use bar and chain oil of high quality f or this pur pose. • Do not use used or reclaimed oil to av oid various oiler problems.
15 CS-680 WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD CAUTION Make sure the bar and chain are free from any obstruction when starting the chain saw. • Mov e chain brak e le ver fully f orw ard to lock chain brak e before starting. • Fill the fuel tank with fuel mixture.
16 CS-680 R UNNING • When engine star ts, k eep idling for a f ew minutes . • Set the brak e le ver in the unloc ked position before starting to cut. • Pull throttle trigger gradually and increase rev olution of the engine. • The chain starts r unning when the engine reaches 3800 r/min approximately .
17 CS-680 CUTTING INSTR UCTION GENERAL CAUTION • Read the ECHO “CHAIN SAW SAFETY MANUAL” included with your chain saw for additional cutting and safety instructions. • Wear suitable hearing protection such as earmuffs or earplugs to protect against objectionable or uncomfortable loud noises.
18 CS-680 FELLING THE TREE A falling tree can seriously damage an ything it ma y hit - a car , a house, a f ence, a pow er-line, or another tree. There are wa ys to make a tree f all where you w ant it, so first decide where that is! Before cutting, clear the area around the tree .
19 CS-680 LIMBING Limbing a f allen tree is much the same as b ucking. Ne v er stand on the tree that you are limbing. When limbing, caution is the word. Be careful of the tip touching other limbs. Alwa ys use both hands. Don’t cut with the saw o v erhead or aligned v er tically with your body .
20 CS-680 CHAIN BRAKE OPERA TION • Set the le v er in the unlock ed position before star ting to cut. • If the brak e is tripped by kickbac k reaction, the chain will stop immediately . Release the throttle to av oid possible damage to the engine or clutch.
21 CS-680 End of the guide bar may be placed at the height of about 35 cm (14 in.). 35 cm (14 in.) Rear handle should be gripped lightly with the right hand. A UT OMA TIC CHAIN BRAKE Kickbac k produced from the tip of the guide bar will trip the automatic chain brake .

23 CS-680 MAINTENANCE AND CARE IMPORTANT Time intervals shown are maximum. Actual use and your experience will determine the frequency of required maintenance. Y our ECHO chain saw is designed to pro vide many hours of trouble free service. Regular scheduled maintenance will help your chain sa w achiev e that goal.
24 CS-680 CARBURET OR ADJUSTMENT Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compliance with Emission Regulations. In addition, the carburetor is equipped with “H” (High Speed) and “L ” (Low Speed) needle adjustment limiters that pre vent settings outside acceptab le limits.

28 CS-680 • Place the depth gauge tool firmly on guide bar so that depth gauge protrudes. Then file top of depth gauge with the flat file until flat with top of the depth gauge tool. - Be sure to round off the front edge of the depth gauge. Properly filed cutters are shown in illustration.
