1. IMPOR T ANT INFORMA TION W ARNING: The Alar m should be per manently wired to the mains b y a qualified electr ician in accordance with IEE wiring regulations (BS7671). Install a Carbon Mono xide (CO) Alar m in e v er y room that contains a fuel burning appliance, par ticular ly rooms where people spend a lot of time e.
WHA T T O DO WHEN THE ALARM SOUNDS: (1) Open the doors and windows to v entilate the area. (2) T ur n off all fuel appliances where possib le. (The alar m can be silenced immediately b y pushing the T est/Hush button). (3) Ev acuate the proper ty lea ving the doors and windows open.
The CO Alar m is no substitute f or k eeping chimneys and flues clear and in good condition, and all of y our appliances ser viced regular ly according to the manuf acturer’ s instructions. Do not fit alar m until all b uilding work is completed to av oid contamination.
A low le vel f or a long period (e.g. 150 ppm f or 90 min utes) can cause the same symptoms (a slight headache) as a high le v el of CO f or a shor t period (e.g. 350 ppm CO f or 30 minutes). T able A sho ws how e xposure to diff erent concentrations of CO gener ally aff ects people.
2.3 WHA T HAPPENS WHEN Y OUR CO ALARM DETECTS CARBON MONO XIDE ? When the Alar m detects potentally dangerous le v els of CO , it flashes the red alar m light and then sounds a loud alar m if the CO persists. The digital displa y (Model Ei261DENRC only) indicates the CO le v el in par ts per million (ppm) CO .
NEVER IGNORE THE ALARM Pre-Alarm: When the alar m detects ov er 50ppm CO the red light flashes e v er y 2 seconds. This helps locate CO leaks as the unit giv es an indication straight a wa y (without this f eature the CO le v el would need to be at 50ppm CO f or 90 minutes f or the horn to sound).
3. ALARM POSITIONING 3.1 IDEALL Y A CARBON MONO XIDE (CO) ALARM SHOULD BE INST ALLED IN: - Ev er y room containing a fuel burning appliance - Remote rooms where occupants spend a considerab le amount .
- In an enclosed space (e .g. in or below a cupboard) - In a damp or humid area - Directly abo v e a sink or cooker - Ne xt to a door , window , air vent or an ywhere that it would be aff ected by draughts - Ne xt to an extr actor f an - Where it w ould be obstr ucted, e.
- If there is a par tition in the room, the CO Alar m should be located on the same side of the par tition as the potential source - In rooms with sloped ceilings, the CO Alarm should be located at the high side of the room (see Figure 3 ) 3.

15 4. INST ALLA TION The Alar m is designed to be per manently mounted, using its own b uilt-in ter minal b lock to connect it to the mains wiring. The mounting plate can be scre wed directly to the ceiling/wall. Alter nativ ely it can be scre wed to a standard junction bo x (BS 4662 single gang accessor y bo x).
The Alar m must not be connected when the house wiring insulation is being check ed with high V oltages i.e. do not use an insulation tester on the alar m. Do not use the CO Alar m on an inter mittent basis, or as a por tab le detector f or the spillage of comb ustion products from fuel burning appliances or chimneys .
W e strongly recommend that y ou check f or the f ollo wing before connecting the alarm : • chec k f or Live and Neutr al using a two probe tester . • chec k f or Live using a neon tester . • chec k that the Interconnect wire is NO T connected to Liv e, Neutr al or Ear th.
11. Connect the mains pow er to the alar m circuit. Check the g reen light is on. The CO Alar m is now fully oper ational and will provide protection against a b uild up of Carbon Mono xide gas 70 seconds after it is connected to the mains supply . 12.
4.1 INTERCONNECTING With interconnected alar ms, when one unit detects CO all units alarm. All hor ns will sound but only units detecting CO will flash their red lights. A maximum of tw elve Ei261ENRC/261DENRC CO Alarms may be interconnected along with an Ei128RBU & Ei128CO V rela y module (see “A CCESSORIES” on page 32).
A maximum of 250 metres (820 ft) of wire can be used (maxim um resistance between detectors 50 Ohms). Connect as shown in Figure 7 . Alar ms should be interconnected only within the confines of a single f amily living unit. If they are connected between diff erent units there ma y be e xcessiv e nuisance alarms.
chec king circuit has detected a f ault. Press and hold the T est/Hush button. If the amber light flashes without the hor n sounding, the sensor is f aulty .
The Fast CO T est Mode nor mally does not activate the memory function unless a high lev el of CO remains in the sensor f or a f e w minutes. (This can be check ed b y pressing the T est/Hush button.
HO W T O DISCONNECT AND REMO VE THE ALARM: (1) Disconnect the mains supply to the CO Alar m circuit at the distribution/fuse board. (2) Remov e tamper proofing scre w if fitted (see Figure 1 ). (3) Release catch (as shown in Figure 1 ) and slide unit off mounting plate .
Note: When the second sensor has completed its 5 y ears of operation the amber light will flash e v er y 40 seconds. The sensor module can only be replaced once. The entire unit must be replaced after 10 y ears . The date f or replacing the entire unit is giv en on the ‘REPLA CE UNIT BY’ label on the alar m.
- CO Alar ms are not suitab le as ear ly warning Smoke Alarms. Some fires produce Carbon Monoxide , but the response characteristics of these CO Alar ms are such that they w ould not giv e sufficient war ning of fire. Smoke Alarms must be fitted to giv e ear ly w ar ning of fire.
- These appliances must “breathe in” air to bur n the fuel properly . Know where the air comes from and ensure v ents/air br ic ks etc. remain unobstructed (par ticular ly after building w ork). - The appliances must also “breathe out” the waste gases (including the CO) – usually through a flue or chimne y .
10. GETTING Y OUR CO ALARM SER VICED If y our CO Alar m f ails to work after you ha ve carefully read all the instructions, chec k ed the unit has been installed correctly , and is receiving A C power , retur n it f or repair or replacement.
12. TECHNICAL SPECIFICA TIONS Operating V oltage : 230± 10% V AC , 50Hz P ower : 1 W att (60 mA) P ower on Indicator : Green Light Sensor : Electrochemical Sensor CO Sensitivity : Meets BS EN 50291: 2001.
Initialisation Time : 70 seconds. On pow er up red and amber lights flash momentar ily to show the y are operational. Operating : -10°C to 40°C T emperature Humidity Range : 15% to 95% R.
CO Alar m Memor y: : A unit will indicate if it has been in alar m pre viously b y flashing the red light f or 2 seconds e v er y 40 seconds (2 flashes f or 50 ppm CO , 4 flashes f or 100 ppm CO and 8 flashes, f or 300 ppm CO).
- Press the T est/Hush button f or appro ximately 20 seconds to reset the unit. If the beeping and the amber light flashing re-occurs replace the sensor module. 3. ALARM BEEPS EVER Y 40 SECONDS (without amber light flashing): - Rechargeab le cells depleted.
Alter nativ ely , if an optional Ei1529RC Remote Control is fitted, pressing the LOCA TE switch when all alar ms are sounding will silence all alar ms apar t from the alar m that is sensing CO/Smoke/Heat. This area can then be saf ely in vestigated and if determined that it is a f alse alar m, press the HUSH s witch to silence the alar m.
The crossed out wheelie bin symbol that is on your product indicates that this product should not be disposed of via the normal household waste stream.
