4 ASSEMBL Y OPERA T OR’S POSITION (See Fig. 1) When right or left hand is mentioned in this manual, it means when you are in the oper ating position (standing behind tiller handles). Y our new tiller has been assembled at the f actor y with e xception of those par ts left unassembled f or shipping pur poses.

7 OPERA TION The operation of any tiller can result in f oreign objects thrown into the e yes, which can result in severe e ye damage . Alwa ys wear safety glasses or eye shields bef ore star ting y our tiller and while tilling. We recommend a wide vision saf ety mask over spectacles or standard saf ety glasses.

When star ting engine f or the fi rst time or if engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra pulls of the recoil star ter to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine.
9 OPERA TION • Y ou will fi nd tilling much easier if you lea ve a ro w un- tilled between passes. Then go back betw een tilled rows . (See Fig. 9) There are two reasons f or doing this. First, wide tur ns are much easier to negotiate than about-f aces.
10 GENERAL RECOMMEND A TIONS The warranty on this tiller does not co ver items that ha ve been subjected to operator ab use or negligence. T o receiv e full value from the w arranty , operator must main tain tiller as instructed in this manual. Some adjustments will need to be made periodically to properly maintain your tiller .
11 MAINTENANCE FIG. 12 AIR CLEANER (See Fig. 13) Ser vice air cleaner car tridge e ver y twenty-fi ve hours, more often if engine is used in very dusty conditions. • Loosen air cleaner screws, one on each side of cov er . • Remo ve air cleaner cov er .
12 MUFFLER Do not operate tiller without muffl er . Do not tamper with e xhaust system. Damaged muffl ers or spark arresters could create a fi re hazard. Inspect pe ri odi cally and re place if nec es sar y . If y our engine is equipped with a spar k arrester screen assembly , re mov e ev er y 50 hours f or cleaning and inspection.
13 TILLER T O ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT (See Fig. 15) F actor y assemb ly has provided lowest handle height. Se lect handle height best suited f or your tilling conditions. Handle height will be diff erent when tiller digs into soil. • If a higher handle height is desired, loosen the f our nuts securing handle panel to engine brack ets.
14 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TINE OPERA TION CHECK (See Fig. 21) Be sure tines do not rotate when engine is running and tine control is in the “OFF” position. W ARNING: Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug to pre vent star ting while chec king tine operation.

16 ST ORA GE ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine w ar m) and replace with clean oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this man ual). CYLINDER(S) • Remo ve spark plug. • P our 1 ounce (29 ml) of oil through spar k plug hole into cylinder .
17 Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in the Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral min utes before attempting to star t. 4. Dir ty air cleaner . 4. Clean or replace air cleaner car tridge.
