Setting Up: Chapter 1 ADAT XT20 Reference Manual 7 C HAPTER 1 S ETTING U P U NPACKING AND I NSPECTION Your ADAT-XT20 was packed carefully at the factory. The shipping carton was designed to protect the unit during shipping. Please retain this container in the highly unlikely event that you need to return the XT20 for servicing.

These are compatible with low-impedance, unbalanced, -10 dBV outputs typical of equipment such as mixers, synthesizers, samplers, direct boxes, etc.

Chapter 5: Multiple ADAT-XT20 Operation 88 ADAT XT20 Reference Manual C HAPTER 5 M ULTIPLE ADAT- XT20 O PERATION O VERVIEW By itself, a single ADAT-XT20 provides a lot of flexibility. However, a multiple ADAT system greatly expands your recording and editing possibilities.
Multiple ADAT-XT20 Operation: Chapter 5 ADAT XT20 Reference Manual 89 Each slave XT20 can have its own tape offset, with respect to the master machine. Combine this feature with the ability to bounce tracks in the digital domain, and you have the ability to perform cut-and-paste style assembly editing.

Multiple ADAT-XT20 Operation: Chapter 5 ADAT XT20 Reference Manual 93 R ECORDING D IGITAL A UDIO B OUNCING T RACKS B ETWEEN ADAT S Tracks can be bounced between machines in a multiple ADAT system by using the ADAT Optical digital bus. The digital bus is connected in much the same way as the sync cables, and should be done in the same order.
Chapter 5: Multiple ADAT-XT20 Operation 94 ADAT XT20 Reference Manual R EASSIGNING C HANNELS TO D IFFERENT T RACKS It is possible to reroute the channel/track assignments so that any incoming channel of digital audio can be recorded onto any track, or multiple tracks.
Multiple ADAT-XT20 Operation: Chapter 5 ADAT XT20 Reference Manual 95 M AKING D IGITAL B ACKUPS XT20 tapes can be backed up for safety by copying all eight tracks to another XT20 (or ADAT-compatible machine) via the digital bus. The result is a perfect digital duplication of the original.
