1 I MPORT ANT S AFETY P RECA UTIONS SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS This manual contains im portant safety instructions that must be followed du ring the installation and maintenance of the UPS and batteries. Read this manua l thoroughly before atte mpting to install or operate this UPS.

Product De scription 4 1.0 P RODUCT D ESCRIPTION The Liebert GXT3 is a compact, online uninterrupt ible power system (UPS) that continuously condi- tions and regulates its output voltage . The Lieber t GXT3 is designed to supply microcomputers and other sensitive electronic equipment with clea n sine wave input power, 700VA to 3000VA at 23 0V.
Product De scription 5 1.3 Appearance and Component s 1.3.1 Appearance The Liebert GXT3 rack/tower models in various power ratings ha ve the same genera l appearance, controls and features (see Figure 1 ). The various rack/tower models differ largely in the ty pe of receptacles each has.

Product De scription 7 Rectifier/Power Factor Correction (PFC) Circuit In normal operation, the Liebert GXT3’s rectifier/ power factor correction (PFC ) circuit converts mains power to regulate d DC powe r for use by the inverter while ensuri ng that the wave shape of the input current used by the UPS is near ideal.
Product De scription 8 1.5.2 Manual Byp ass Mode Manual Bypass Mode occurs when the Standby/Manual Bypass button is pressed and held for about 2 seconds while the Liebert GXT3 is in Mains (AC) Mode. Bypass operation is i ndicated by an audible alarm and illu minated amber bypass indic ator.
Installation 9 2.0 I NST ALLATION 2.1 Unp acking and Inspection Unpack the UPS and conduct the following checks: • Inspect the UPS f or shipping damage. If any shipping dama ge is found, report it to the carrier and your local dealer or Emers o n representative immediately.
Installation 10 2.4 Mechanical Inst allation The Liebert GXT3 may be installed as a tower or in a rack, depending on space and use consider- ations. The Liebert GXT3 may be used alone, as a si ngle UPS, or with up to four batte ry cabinets. 2.4.1 T ower Installation To install the Liebe rt GXT3 as a tower: 1.

The rota ted front plastic bezel cover is shown in Figure 9 . d. Replace the fron t plastic bezel cover on the Liebert GXT3.
Installation 12 They are interchangeable between left-ha nd an d right-hand. Mounting h a rdware includes M4 screws and M5 screws. 2. Remove inner member of each bracket assembly by extending it to its outermost position, depressing the retaining latch an d then pulling the inner member from the bracket assembly (see Figure 10 ).

Installation 14 Figure 15 Inst alling rack-mount ears 10. Insert the UPS, with inner me mbers attached, into bracket a ssemblies by inserting top and bottom edges of inner members into the top and bottom curved tracks of front members and sliding the UP S into the rack, as shown in Figure 16 .
Installation 15 2.5.1 Connecting to AC Mains and Loads The specification of input circuit breaker on the rear panel of the UPS is given in Table 2 . 1. Plug all loads into the output receptacle s on the rear panel of the Liebert GXT3. 3. Plug the input receptacle of the Lieb ert GXT3 into the input power connection .
Installation 16 2.6 Connecting Communication Cables Communication cable connection includ es USB and option card cables. 2.6.1 Connecting USB Communication Cables 1. Remove the USB commu nication cables from the accessories box. 2. Insert one end of the USB communication cable to the USB port on the re ar panel of the Liebert GXT3 (see Figure 2 ).
Operation and Disp lay Panel 17 3.0 O PERATION AND D ISPLAY P ANEL The operation and displ ay panel, shown in Figure 17 , is on the front panel of the Liebert GXT3 (see Figure 1 ).
Operation and Disp lay Panel 18 3.2 Indicators The operation and display panel has seven indicators (see Figure 16 ). The in dicators can be divi ded into two groups according to th eir applications: level in dicato rs and UPS status indicators.
Operation and Disp lay Panel 19 3.2.2 UPS St atus Indicators UPS status is indicated by five symbols: fault indicator, AC input indica tor, battery indicator, inverter indicator and bypass indicator.
Operation 20 4.0 O PERATION This section describes checks to be made before st arting the UPS, how to start the UPS, manual bat- tery test, manual bypass, shutting down the UPS and disconnecting the mains power from the UPS. 4.1 St artup Checklist for the Liebert GXT3 Before starting the UPS, perform these checks: ___ 1.
Operation 21 4.5 Shut Down the Liebert GXT3 1. Transfer the UPS to manual bypass by pressing the Standby/Manual Bypass button and holding it for about 2 seconds. If manual bypass is not avai lable, disregard the first step. 2. Press the Standby/Man ual Bypass bu tton twice within four second s to shut down the UPS.
Communication 22 5.0 C OMMUNICATION This section describes UPS communication over the three types of communicati on connections on the rear of the Liebert GXT3: • Liebert IntelliSl ot port • USB port (standard B-type) • Terminal Block Communication 5.
Communication 23 5.2 USB Port Communication The standard B-type USB port is used to connect the UPS and network server or other compute r sys- tem using Liebert MultiLink. The configuration program can be completed through the communica- tion port. 5.

Communication 25 5.3.2 Battery Mode Shut down Battery Mode Shutdown permits shutting down the UPS by turning off the rectifier, inverter and static switch so that there is no powe r to the lo ad when the UPS is On Ba ttery. The auxiliary power for the UPS will st ill be active.
Maintenance 26 6.0 M AINTENANCE This section describes repl acing the internal battery pack, precau tions, checking the Liebert GXT3’s status and checking U PS functions. 6.1 Replacing the Internal Battery Pack The Liebert GXT3 is designed to allow the user to replace the internal battery pack sa fely.
Maintenance 27 6. Unpack the new internal battery pack. Take care not to destroy the pa cking. Compare the new and old internal battery packs to make sure they are the same type and model. If they are the same, proceed wi th Step 7 ; if they are different, stop and contact y our local Emer- son representative or Emerson Channel Support .
Maintenance 28 6.5 Checking UPS Functions Emerson recommends checking the UP S functions once every six months. Back up the load data before conducting the UP S functions check. Procedures are as follows: 1. Press the Standby/Manu al Bypass button to chec k whether the buzzer and indicators are normal.
Trou bleshooting 29 7.0 T ROUBLESHO OTING This section indicate s various UP S symptoms a user may encounter and provides a troubleshooting guide in the e vent the UPS develop s a problem. Use th e following i nformation to determine whether external factors caused the proble m and how to remedy the situation.
Trou bleshooting 30 7.1.2 Audible Alarm An audible alarm will sound in conjunction with the visual indicators to indicate a change in UPS operating status. The audible al arm will sound as described in Table 8 . 7.2 T roubleshooting In the event of an issue with the UPS, refer to Table 9 to determine the caus e and solution.
Trou bleshooting 31 When reporting a UPS issue to Em erson, include the UPS model and serial number. These are on the top panel of the Liebert GXT3. Fault and Bypass indicators and diagnostic C in dicator are illuminated UPS DC/DC fault UPS requires service.
Battery Cabinet 32 8.0 B ATTERY C ABINET Optional battery ca binets are available for the Liebert GX T3. The external batte ry connector and input breaker are on the battery cabinet’s rear panel, as shown in Figure 25 . For battery cabinet specifications, ref er to Table 12 .
