XDF Components 12 3.1.6 Control—Liebert’ s iCOM Controller The XDF is equipped with Liebert’s iCOM controll er for al l programming functi ons on the XDF. The menu-driven, 128 x 64 dot matrix grap hic display sh ows the status of t he conditioned space, set- points, alarm status and settin gs, event histories and the time.
XDF Components 13 3.2 Coolant Source—W ater/Glycol Models The XDF water/glycol cooled models may be connect ed to either of two types of coolant sources: • a closed-loop water system (cooling tower) • a drycooler loop 3.
XDF Components 14 3.2.2 Drycooler Loop The water/glycol cooled XDF model re quires an external supply of cool ant, either water or glycol, to remove heat extracted from the XDF. Contact the factory for drycooler requirements wh en connecting multiple XD F units.
XDF Components 15 3.3 Optional Equipment 3.3.1 General Enclosure Options • Sealed entrance cable bundle • Cable tray • Cable Management Channels •C a b l e r i n g s • Velcro cable managemen.
Installation 16 4.0 I NST ALLATION 4.1 Inspection Upon arrival of the unit, a nd before unpacking it, verify that the delivered equipment matches the bill of lading. Examine the packaging for any signs of mishandling or damage. Inspect all items for dam- age, visible or concealed.
Installation 17 4.3.1 Handling the Unit While It is Packaged • If possible, tran sport the XDF using a forklift or pallet ja ck. Otherwise use a crane with be lts or cables and spreader bars to protect the XDF’s sides from damage.
Installation 18 4.3.3 Removing the XDF from Sk id This unit is on casters—to prevent it from rolling , ensure that the skid is on a flat surface before removing the XDF from the skid. 1. Remove eight lag bolts from th e unit tie-down brackets on th e controls side of the unit.
Installation 19 Figure 16 Roll XDF off the shipping skid Appropriate number of workers roll XDF ... Fit tabs on ramp s into holes on front of skid ... off the skid onto level surface and roll unit to .
Installation 20 4.4 XDF Site Prep aration When deciding where to place your Lieb ert XDF, keep in mind these factors: • electricity is required to operate the compresso r (208 V-3ph-60Hz) and th e c.
Installation 21 4.5 V oltage Requirement s All XDF systems require two input power circuits. Each power cord is 10 feet (3m) long. For the full load amp requirements of each option, refer to 12.1 - Optional Power Systems or the component’s user manual.
Installation 22 4.5.2 Uninterruptible Power Supply—Op tional I f y o ur X D F i s eq u i p p e d w i t h a U P S , i t w i l l r e q u i r e connection to a dedicated electrical circuit. Review the UPS’s user manual before connec t ing utility power to the unit.
Installation 23 4.7 Equipment Layout The lateral, circular flow of cool ing air permits arrangin g equi pment as required fo r stability if the XDF is filled or nearly fille d with equipm ent. Install hea vier equipme nt first, placin g it in the lowe r racks of the XDF.
Installation 24 4.8 Frame and Enclosure Configurations 4.8.1 Internal Mounting Rails The XDF can accommodate rack-mo unted or free-standing computer and network equipment. The unit features 19-inch (483mm) rea r-mount rack rails . These internal moun ting rails are design ed in accordance with the EIA 310D rack standard.
Installation 25 4.10 Door—Remove The XDF’s doors are removable for conv enience when installing equipment. 4.10.1 Remove the Door 1. Remove the bolts securi ng the lower half of each two-piece hinge to the doo r. 2. Remove the lo wer half of each hinge.
Installation 26 4.1 1.2 Remove the Right Panel To remove the right panel from the XDF: 1. Locate the four panel retainers on the outside of the right XDF panel. On e retainer is in each corner of the panel. 2. Using the fa ctory-supplied T-h andle Allen wr ench, turn the panel retainers counterclockwise 90 degrees.
Piping Considerations—W ater/Glycol Mod els Only 27 5.0 P IPING C ONSIDERATIONS —W ATER /G LYCOL M ODELS O NLY The XDF’s supply and return fittings are on the upper portion of the rear of the unit (se e Figure 6 ). The 1-1/8" diameter pipes have one-inch female NPT fittings .
Piping Considerations—W ater/Glycol Mod els Only 28 5.2.1 Exp ansion T anks, Fluid Re lief V alves and Other Devices An expansion tank must be provided for expansion and contraction of the fluid due to temperature change in this closed system. Vent s are required at s ystem high points to vent trapped ai r when fill- ing the system.
Piping Considerations—W ater/Glycol Mod els Only 29 5.3 Drycooler Loop System 5.3.1 Glycol Solutions The percentage of glycol to water mu st be determined by using the lowe st design outdoor temperature in which the system is operating. Table 3 indicates th e solution fr eeze point at s everal concentra tion levels of ethylene glycol.
