Playin g Movies 11 Playing Movies Follow the in structi ons in th is sec tion to choos e a loc ation , play a DVD mo vie, an d con trol playback. Choosing a Locati on You can use your MovieMate ju st about an ywhere— in the livi ng room, bedroo m, or e ven outsid e.
12 Playi ng Movies MovieM ate doesn’t hav e to be d irectly i n front o f the scr een or wall , but it ha s to face straight ahead ( at a 90-d egre e angle to the surface). If the image is too low, too high, or off to the si de, you can us e the quic k image adjus tment dial s to adju st the positi on (s ee pa ge 15).
Playin g Movies 13 When setting up Mo vieMate, keep these consi derations in mind: ■ Make sure you do n’t block the air vents on the side s. ■ Make sure you pl ace Movi eMate withi n 10 feet of an el ectrical outl et, power st rip, or extension cord.
14 Playi ng Movies Starting a DVD Movie 1. Press the button to open the D VD tray. 2. Insert your DVD and close the tray. If the mo vie doesn’t s tart automatically, you may have to pres s the Power button or the Image On/Off button. 3. Adju st the volume if necess ary.
Playin g Movies 15 Adjusting the Picture Once you see your picture, you may need to make certain adjustments. 1. If the image is too low, too high, o r off to the side, use the quic k imag e adju stmen t dial s to adjus t it s positi on.
16 Playi ng Movies Adjusting the Sound To adjust the volume, use the + or – Volume butto ns on MovieMate’s control panel or on the remote contro l. Turning Off MovieMate 1. To s top p laying a DVD or CD, p ress on the remot e contr ol or on Mo vieM ate’ s control panel.

18 Playi ng Movies Controlli ng Pl ayback You can use the buttons o n the remote con trol or the Mov ieMate contro l panel to pause, fast-f orwar d, or replay s ect ions of you r vide o or au dio. You c an al so sele ct ite ms on a DVD menu by using the remote control.
Playin g Movies 19 Searching (Fast Forward or Reverse) ■ To mov e forward o r backw ard thro ugh a vid eo or mu sic CD, pr ess or on the re mote c ont rol . You can also press and hold or on the control panel. Each time you pres s the button, the s earch (or “shuttle”) s peed incre ases.
20 Playi ng Movies Using DV D Menu s Many DVDs display a top menu at startup and in clude submenus that let you select chapters. ■ To disp lay a men u, p ress or . ■ To select items in a menu, press , , , or . Then press if nece ssary. You can also select a title or chapter by number.

Using Movie Mate With Other Equipme nt 23 Using MovieMate With Other Equipment You can connec t a varie ty of video, audio, and computer eq uipment to Movi eMate to fur ther enhance your view ing and liste ning experie nce.
24 Using Movie Mate With Other Equipm ent 1. Connect the external equipment as show n, using either the ye llow composite v ideo port, the S-Video port, or a component video cable and the adapter cable that came with MovieM ate.

Connect the RCA audio cable that came with the optional subwo ofer as shown below.
Using Movie Mate With Other Equipme nt 27 Playing Au dio From a Digi tal Audio Device You can use Mo vieMate to p rovide spe akers for a digital audio devic e, such as an i Pod, MP3 player, portable CD player, or other device. 1. Make sure your aud io equi pme nt is turn ed off.
28 Using Movie Mate With Other Equipm ent Playing Movi eMate Audio T hrough an Externa l Audio System You can connec t MovieMate to an aud io recei ver, 5.1 St ereo Surround Sound Syst em, or digital audio r ecorder. To o utput sound fro m MovieM ate, the external equipment need s to have an optical audi o input port.

30 Using Movie Mate With Other Equipm ent 8. If the image flickers, you may need to synchronize the signal , especially if you have connec ted diff erent comp uters to MovieM ate in the past. Pre ss the auto setup button on the remote cont rol to co rrect this problem.
Using Movie Mate With Other Equipme nt 31 Conside ring Scr een Shape and Siz e In a home theater settin g—fo r watch ing DVD movies , HDTV b roadcasts, or other widesc reen content— the best s creen shape ra tio is 16:9, whe re the width i s almost twice the height.

Viewing and Adjusting Video Information You can use the Visual Info . button on the remo te control to view the number of hours the lamp has been used, and to reset the timer after you install a new lamp.

Ca rin g fo r Movi eM at e 47 Caring for MovieMate MovieM ate 30s need s little maintenance. All you ne ed to do on a regular basis is keep the lens clean. You also need to cle an the air fi lter peri odicall y to preven t overhe ating. Warning: Befo re you cl ean any part of Mov ieMate, turn it off and unplu g the powe r cord.
48 Ca rin g fo r Mov ieM at e Cleani ng Movi eMate ’s Case Before you cl ean the case, t urn off Mov ieMate and unpl ug the power co rd. ■ To remove dirt or dust, wipe the ca se with a soft, dry, lint- free clo th. ■ To remove stubborn dirt or stai ns, moisten a sof t cloth wi th water and a neutral detergen t.

56 Problem Solv ing The warning light is flashing orange. High- speed cooli ng is i n pr oces s. If M ovie Mate ge ts to o hot again, proj ecti on s tops automatically. Make sure M ovieMate is at least 8 inches away from the wall. Clean or re place the air filt ers if nec essary ( s ee page 48).
Problem Solving 57 Solving MovieMate Operation Problems MovieMate doesn’t turn on. ■ Make sure the main power switch is turned on. ■ If the Image On light is flashing gre en, MovieM ate is warming up. W ait for the p icture to appear. ■ If the Image O ff light is flashing orange, Movi eMate is cooli ng down.
