4 I nstallation I nstructions Unpacking To ensure the best performance from your new Smart Dr ive® please f ollow the instructions below. Removing the P ack aging 1 Remove the outer packaging. 2 Tilt the machine backwards and walk it off the bottom packer one foot at a time.
5 I nstallation I nstructions I nlet Hoses 1 C onnect the straight ends of the inlet hoses to the taps. There are washers fitted in both ends. 2 C onnec t the elbow ends of the inlet hoses to the machine inlet valves. Inlet valves are marked on the back of the machine H=Hot C=Cold .
6 I nstallation I nstructions Wa t er Supply F or best operating conditions y our hot water should be approximately 65˚C. Y our cold water should not exceed 35˚C or your hot water ex ceed 75˚C. T emperatures above these may cause the machine to fault or cause damage to the machine.

8 Using Y our Excellence W asher Remove fabric softener dispenser . P lace the load evenly around the ag itator . (Refer to Sorting and Loading pages 21). A. Detergent F ollow the instructions on the deter gent pack age. Use the mark on the agitator , nearest to the top of the clothes, as a guide to the correct amount of detergent to use .
9 C. P ower Pre s s POWER to tur n the machine on. D. W ash C ycle Pr ess the desired wash cycle button. E. W ash Options Select the W ASH TEMPERA TURE and other wash options. (Ref er to pages 13 – 17). F. Star t Pre s s ST ART/P A USE to star t the machine.

11 C. P ower Pre s s POWER to tur n the machine on. D. W ash C ycle Select the c ycle you want by pr essing the Cy cle Button located below the Regular option. Scroll through the cycles until the one you want is lit. E. W ash Options Select the W ASH TEMPERA TURE and other wash options.
12 Lidlock Y our Smar t Drive® has a lidlock, which locks when your machine is spinning. This ensures the lid cannot be opened during hazardous parts of the c ycle, pr oviding added safety for you and y our family. The lidlock light (above the ST ART/P A USE button) comes on when the lid is locked to tell you when you cannot open the lid.

14 W ash Options and Advancing the C ycle To S elect the W ash Options Model 1 Select the wash c ycle , temperature , water level and spin speed. (Ref er to P age 9). 2 Pr ess the OPTIONS button if you want to choose Eco, Soak or Wat er Saver . (Refer to pages 16 and 17).
15 Wa t er Levels M anual W ater Level Selection The agitator has 5 levels marked on its stem that can be used to help you select the correct water level. Select the correct water level by using the mark nearest to the t op of the load. T he levels marked on the agitator do not c orrespond exactly to the level of the water .
16 W ash Options – Saving W ater Eco & Models Pr ess the Eco option to save large amounts of water . The Eco option uses an Eco Spray rinse which has been specially designed to use 25% less water than the W ater Saver option. Use this option when you want to use less detergent and less water .
17 W ash Options S oak Model Only Use the Soak option to soak clothes at the end of the wash phase or when you wish to re-use the wash water . When you select Soak your Smart Dr ive® will soak f or a period of 2 hours before completing rinse and spin.
18 W ash Options W ashing Bulky I tems Fo r cing large items into the machine may result in them being damaged during washing. Make sure there is enough room in the machine f or items to move when being washed. Some items float up during the wash, (eg duvets/ doonas and pillows).
19 Fa v our ite C ycle Fa v ourite Cy cle Model Only Our F avourite cycle lets you design the wash cycle. It can be any wash cycle with any of its wash options and it can start from any point in the cycle. F or instance, it may be a cycle to wash your gym gear or it may be a rinse and spin to finish washing the nappies.
20 C ustomising the W ash Cycles To C ustomise a Cycle Model Only Y ou can program your Smart Drive® to remember the wash options you pref er for each wash cy cle . For instance, y ou may want to set the Regular c ycle to a cold wash or set Hea vy Duty to include a soak.
21 Bef ore Y ou W ash Sor ting To get the best wash results it pays to sort your clothes before washing . Care Labels The care label will tell you about the fabric of the garment and how it should be washed. Soil Sort clothes according to the type and amount of soil.
22 De ter gent Choosing The Right Detergent We r ecommend using domestic detergents, (powder , liquid or tablets). Soap flakes or granulated soap powders should not be used in your Smart Drive® eg L ux Soap Flakes. When washing woollens remember to use a detergent recommended by the New Z ealand Wool Board or A ustralian W ool Cor poration.
23 F abric Sof tener How the F abric Softener is Dispensed The fabric softener goes into the dispenser on the top of the agitator . During the rinse the machine spins to release the fabric softener , delivering it down the agitator stem as the machine fills for the final deep rinse.
24 Changing P re -set Options Option Adjustment Mode After using your Smart Dr ive® you ma y want to fine tune some of the options to suit your wash needs. There are a number of pr eset options, which can be altered. In the EXCELLENCE Mo del the f ollowing pre -set options can be changed: the wash temperatures .
25 Changing P re -set Options 1 Pre s s ST ART/P A USE and hold down. Press POWER . 2 The diagram below shows how the lights relate t o the options you can change. It also shows what lights will be on when you first enter the Option Adjustment Mode. 3 Use the buttons on the panel to change the pre-set options.
26 Changing P re -set Options W ash T emperatures On the PRIDE models the warm temperature can be adjusted if you think it is t oo hot or too cold. Note: On these models the hot temperature will be the same as the hot water supply t emperature. On the EX CELLENCE models all wash temperatures can be individually adjusted .
27 Changing P re -set Options Co ntrolled Cold Model Only If y our cold water temperature is v er y low you will not get a very effective wash. The controlled cold option solves this problem by adding a small amount of hot wat er to raise the temperature of the wash.
28 Changing P re -set Options Out-of-Balance Recovery Routine When your Smart Drive® is spinning it can sense if the wash load is out-of-balance and will stop and re-tr y spinning up to 3 times. If it still senses an unbalanced load there are two options the machine can take.
29 M achine I nf or mation When Y ou Have F inished Tu rn off the taps to prevent the chance of flooding should a hose burst. Tu rn off the power at the wall. C old W ater W ashing If y ou always use cold water , we recommend that a warm or hot wash be used at regular intervals, eg every 5th wash should be at least a warm one.
30 M achine I nf or mation Pr oducts That Might Damage Y our Smar t Drive® C oncentrated bleaches, nappy sanitisers and h ydrocarbon solvents (eg petrol and paint thinners) can cause damage to the paintwork and components of your autowasher . (Be careful when washing garments stained with solvents as they are flammable.
31 Saving W ater F ull loads are more efficient than part loads. Use the Water Saver or Eco option. (Ref er to page 16). A djust the rinse option on Regular , Heavy Dut y and Wool cycles to one deep rinse. (Refer t o page 26). A djust Auto Wat er Level to fill with less water .
32 Saving W ater M anual Suds Save W ith Syphon Back If y ou have a large tub near y our washing machine and a separate drain outlet you can set up another method of reusing the water . (T he tub should hold a minimum of 100 litres or ha ve an overflow).
33 If Y our Smar t Dr ive® Beeps f or Help Y our Smar t Drive® is capable of diagnosing its own troubles . I f your Smart Drive® gives a musical series of beeps ever y 5 seconds it is telling you that it has a pr oblem which Y OU can solve using the checklist below.
34 If Y our Smar t Dr ive® Beeps f or Help LIDL OCK light is flashing. Ma ke sure the lid is closed . Pr ess ST ART/P A USE (refer t o page 12). If the symptom persists call your F isher & Paykel Dealer or Authorised Service Centre. F irst RINSE or SPIN ligh t is flashing as well as the Spin Speed light.
35 If the problem persists contact your F isher & Paykel Dealer or A uthorised Ser vice Centr e (refer t o page 37). Operating P roblems Pr essing POWER does not turn the machine on. Is the power switched on at the wall? Switch the power off at the wall and wait 60 seconds befor e tur ning the power on again.
36 W ash P roblems Listed below are possible causes and solutions to some common wash pr oblems. Creasing . Ov erloading the washer or dryer . Choose a Permanent P ress or Delicate cycle as these c ycles have been desig ned to minimise creasing. Tr y selec ting a slower spin speed.
37 C ustomer car e Check the things you can do yourself . Refer to your User Guide and check: 1 y our appliance is correctly installed 2 y ou are familiar with its normal operation If after checking these points you still need assistance please refer to the f ollowing: In New Zealand If Y ou Need Assistance .
38 M anufacturers W arrant y F isher & P aykel Undertakes T o Repair or , at its option, replace without cost to the owner either for mat erial or labour any part of the Pr oduc t, the serial number of which appears on the back of the product, which is found to be defective within T WO YEARS of the date of purchase.
