2 Installation instructions Unpacking T o ensure the best per formance from y our new F abricSmart™ washer please follow the instructions below . Removing the packaging 1 Remove the outer packaging. 2 Tilt the machine backwards and walk it off the bottom packer one foot at a time .

Old hose sets should not be re-used. 1 C onnect the straight ends of the inlet hoses to the taps (there are washers fitted in both ends).
Installation instructions 4 W ater supply F or best operating conditions your hot wat er should be approximately 65°C. Y our hot water should not exceed 75°C or y our cold water exc eed 35°C. T emperatures above these may cause the machine to fault or cause damage to the machine.
5 Before y ou do y our first wash Thank you f or buying a Fisher & P aykel F abricSmart™ washing machine. W e are very proud of this washer and trust it will serve you well for man y years. At F isher & Pa ykel we aim to provide inno vative products that are simple t o use, ergonomic and energy efficient.
6 Place load evenly ar ound the agitator (ref er to Sor ting and Loading , page 23). Remove the fabric softener dispenser . 1 Detergent F ollow the instructions on the detergent package. Use the mark on the agitator near est to the top of the clothes as a guide to the correct amount of detergent to use.

8 How Dirty? Y our F abricSmar t™ washer will automatically choose the medium soil level (three HOW DIRTY bars). This setting has been designed f or your average , everyday load. Howev er , some loads may need more or less washing depending on the amount of soil on the clothes.
9 Eco A ctive ™ wash The Eco Active™ wash, is a unique washing method that uses a combination of fr ont loader and top loader washing technologies .
10 Y our F abricSmar t™ has a lid lock, which locks when your machine is spinning. This ensures the lid cannot be opened during hazardous parts of the c ycle, pro viding added safety for you and your family .

12 F abricSmart™ allows you to customise your wash by using the f ollowing menus: OPTIONS; LIFEST YLES; W ASH ADV ANCE and TEMPERA TURE. 1 OPTIONS – allows you t o select different wash settings for y our wash (refer below). 2 LIFEST YLES – is a range of specially designed cycles to make washing ev en easier (refer to page 19).
13 F or all the options mentioned below you firstly need to ent er the OPTIONS menu (touch , and select OPTIONS). Use the and buttons to mov e through the options until the one you want is highlighted. T ouch to select it or to go back to the previous step .
14 W ash Advanc e Use W ASH ADV ANCE to advance the cycle or to start the c ycle at a particular stage. This is a good option if you only want to use part of the cycle, eg the rinse and spin, or prewash. Please r efer to page 22 for more detail . Note: you can also acc ess this option from the wash options screen (touch the button).
15 Save W ater F abricSmart™ provides an excellent opportunity to save water , with two water saving options available: 1) the traditional SA VE W A TER option, and 2) the ECO (SA VE W A TER++) option. SA VE W A TER minimises the amount of water used.
16 After using your F abricSmart™ washer you may want to fine-tune some of the options to suit your wash needs. T o access the Settings menu: T ouch , selec t OPTIONS and then SET TINGS. The SET TINGS menu will then be displayed . Select the option you wish to adjust.
17 Adjusting the w ash settings Default Rinse This menu changes the rinse option that is automatically selected when you first turn your machine on. Spray and Deep is the default rinse. Y ou may wish t o change the type of rinse selected for a number of reasons.
18 Y our machine lef t the factor y with the Machine Stops Action set as the default. T o set your machine to Automatic Reco very : Access the SET TINGS menu (refer t o page 16). Select OUT OF BALANCE RECOVERY . Select ON. Automatic Reco very is now ac tivated.
19 2. Lifestyles Y our F abricSmar t™ has a range of specially designed Lifestyles cycles to make washing even easier . 1 T ouch the button, select LIFEST YLES. The LIFESTYLES menu will be displayed. 2 S elec t a Lifestyles menu of your choice , eg F AMIL Y .
20 F av ourite The F A VOURITE cycle lets you sav e wash settings for your ideal wash cycle . Y our F A VOURITE cycle can include most wash options and it can start from any point in the cycle. F or instance, it may be a cycle to wash your gym gear or it may be a rinse and spin to rinse out swimsuits.
21 Sports Sweat y The clothes you ex ercise in require a little extra care to remo ve the odours and dirt that tend to penetrate int o the fabric structure. This cycle incorporates a warm/hot regular w ash with a fast spin to clean sweaty sports clothes.
22 W ash Advance and T emperatur e Fruit/W ine It is impor tant to treat these stains immediately with soda w ater if you hav e it, or cold water . The FRUIT/WINE cycle will finish off the process. Some detergen ts contain colour-safe bleaches , that would be ideal here as the higher temper atures in the Eco Active™ wash activate the bleaches .
23 Sor ting and loading T o get the best wash results it pays to sort your clothes befor e washing. Care labels Care labels will tell y ou about the fabric of the garment and how it should be washed. Read them carefully . Soil Sor t clothes according t o the type and amount of soil.
24 W ashing difficult items W ashing woollens The WOOL cycle is for washing MA CHINE W ASHABLE woollens . The fibres of these woollens ha ve been treated to pr event felting when they ar e machine -washed. Most hand knitted garments are not made of machine washable wool and we r ecommend that you wash them by hand .
25 Detergen t Choosing the right detergen t W e recommend the use of domestic detergen ts (powder or liquid) only . Soap flakes or granulated soap pow ders should not be used. Detergents that con tain built-in fabric softeners may not be suitable for your F abricSmart™ as they can leave deposits on the agita tor and bowl.

27 F abric sof tener How the fabric softener is dispensed The fabric softener goes into the dispenser on the top of the agitator . During rinse the machine spins to release the fabric softener , delivering it down the agita tor stem as the machine fills for the final deep rinse.
28 Caring f or your clothes washer When you ha ve finished the cycle T urn off the taps to prev ent the chance of flooding should a hose burst. Unplug the machine from the wall socket. Cleaning your F abricSmar t™ Before y ou star t cleaning your F abricSmart™ washer , ensure that it is turned off at the wall .

30 If your F abricSmar t™ beeps for help Before y ou call for service Please read the f ollowing pages before calling f or ser vice. Y ou can correct many of your machine ’ s problems using the checklists on the following pages.
31 If your F abricSmar t™ beeps for help “I am not getting any W A TER ” The taps have not been turned on. Inlet hose screens may be blocked. The hoses may be kinked (refer to page 3).
32 Operating pr oblems Pressing POWER does not turn the machine on. Is the power switched on at the w all? Unplug the machine from the wall. Wait 60 seconds, plug back in and turn the pow er back on again. Could your household po wer supply be at fault? T ry plugging in another electrical appliance.
33 All about wash pr oblems Listed below are possible causes and solutions t o some common wash problems. CREASING. Overloading the washer or dr yer . Select EASY IRON as this will change the rinse and selec t a slower , shor ter spin speed (page 19).
