1 Contents Welcome to the world of BOOK- MAN ® ! Using your new PDR ® Family Guide to Prescription Drugs ® book card, you can find important informa- tion about more than 850 brand name and generic drugs. Y ou can also read 23 informative health overviews, plus useful medical safety tips.
2 Key Guide Color Keys DRUG (red) Displays the Drugs menu. HEALTH (green) Displays the Health Overviews menu. TIPS (yellow) Displays the Medi- cal Safety Tips menu. SEARCH (blue) Displays and clears the word search screen. Function Keys BACK Backs up to the previous screen.

4 Selecting a Book If you’ve installed a book card in your BOOKMAN, you can select which book you want to use. Follow these steps. 1. T ur n your BOOKMAN on. 2. Press CARD . 3. Press or to highlight a book symbol. 4. Press ENTER to select it. Warning: Never install or remove a book card when your BOOKMAN is turned on.
5 Viewing a Demonstration ➤ Help is Always at Hand Y ou can read a help message at vir - tually any screen by pressing HELP . Press or DN to read the mes- sage. Press BACK to exit it. T o read a tutorial about how to use this book, select Tutorial from the Setup menu.
6 Looking up a Drug If you know the brand or generic name of a drug, here’ s how to find its drug profile. 1. Press DRUG (the red key). Or highlight Drugs on the Con- tents menu and then press ENTER . 2. T ype a brand or generic drug name. For example, type T ylenol .
7 Reading a Drug Pr ofile Drug profiles provide detailed informa- tion about prescriptions, dosage, side effects, drug interactions, and more. Follow this example to learn how to read a drug profile. 1. Go to the start of the drug pro- file for T ylenol .
8 Y ou can read health overviews cov- ering topics such as “Coping with Arthritis” and “Handling Familiar Childhood Infections.” 1. Press HEALTH (the green key). Or highlight Health Overviews on the Contents menu and then press ENTER . 2. Highlight a topic (for ex- ample, Coping with Arthritis ).
9 Y ou can also read medical safety tips about Poison Control Centers, safe medication use, alcohol- or sugar - free drugs, drugs that cause a reac- tion to sunlight, and recommended vaccinations. 1. Press TIPS (the yellow key). Or highlight Med. Safety Tips on the Contents menu and then press ENTER .
10 Using the Index Using the Index, you can look up drugs, symptoms, diseases, treatments, and other medical terms and topics, listed from A to Z. 1. Press CLEAR . 2. Use the arrow keys to high- light Index . 3. Start typing an index entry . For example, type warts .
11 Searching for W ords first match (i.e., occurrence). 4. Press ENTER to see the first match. 5. Hold ✩ and press DN repeat- edly to see the Outline Locations of the next matches. 6. Press ENTER to see a match. If a cross-reference symbol ( ) appears, press ENTER and then the arrow keys to highlight it.
12 Highlighting Search W or ds Y ou can also search for words by highlighting a word in a drug profile, health overview , or medical safety tip. T ry this example. 1. Press TIPS (the yellow key). 2. Select Alcohol-free Pr oducts and then select Analgesics .
13 This BOOKMAN book card can send words to and receive words from cer - tain other BOOKMAN books. T o send or receive words between books, you must install a book card in your BOOKMAN. In addition, the in- stalled book card(s) and/or its built-in book must be able to send or receive words.
