15 Getting Ready 2 Load the b atteries correctly as indicated by the polari ty ico ns. CAUTIO N Match the polarity icons ( + and , ) of the batteries to those on the inside of the battery cover.

17 Getting Ready Load ing th e xD-Picture Card Although you can store pictu res i n the came ra’s i nternal memory, you can stor e many more images on the xD- Pictur e Card (sold sepa rately). There is a slot for the xD- Pictur e Car d inside the batter y compartm ent.
18 Loadin g the xD -Picture Card CAUTIO N • When storing xD-Picture Card s, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. An xD-Picture Card could be swallowed and cause suffocation. If a child swallows an xD-Picture Card , seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

20 Setti ng the Date and Time When usin g the camera for the firs t time after pur chasing, the date and time are c leared. Set the date an d time. 1 “DATE/TIME NO T SET” message appears when turn ing the camera on. 2 Set the date and time . MEMO • H olding down n or o changes the numbers continuously.

24 Taki ng Pic tures ( a AUTO Mode) This section describes th e basic operat ions. 1 Turn the cam era on. Press PO WER down fully to turn the ca mera on. Holdi ng the c amera correc tly CAU TION • M oving the camera while shooting gives a blurred picture (camera shake).

26 Taking Pictures ( a AUTO M ode) 4 Press the shutter button fully. CAUTIO N When taking a picture using the flash, the image may disappear and go dark briefly due to flash charging. The Indicator lamp blinks orange during charging. MEMO • When the su bject is n ot in the AF frame, use AF/AE lo ck to take the picture ( ➝ p.

28 Taking Pictures ( a AUTO M ode) Taking pictures with the focus and exposure locked In th e above co mpos ition, the s ubject s (two people in thi s case) are not in th e AF fra me. Press ing the sh utter b utton halfway at this point will result in the subje cts being out of focus.
29 Using the Camera 3 Continue t o hold the shutter button d own halfway. Move the camera back to the original image and p ress the shutter b utton full y. MEMO • AF/AE lock can be applied repeatedly be fore the shutter is released. • Use AF/AE lock in all Photography modes to guarantee excellent results.

For im portant photogra phs, alw ays take a test sho t and view the im age to mak e sure that the c amera is wor king nor mally . Settin g the camera to Playback mode When the ca mera is off, pr ess w f or about 1 second to turn the camera on in Pl aybac k mode.
32 Viewing the Imag es Single-f rame play back 1 Zoom in / Zoom out. To zoom in an image d uring s ingle-fr ame pla yback: MEMO Press DISP/BACK to cancel playback zoom.

35 Using the Camera MEMO MEMO • When using an xD-Picture Card , the images in the xD- Picture Card are erased. When not using an xD- Picture Card , the images in the internal memory are erased. • Selecting : BACK returns to single-frame playback without erasing any frames (files).

53 Advanced Features — Playback CAUTIO N • Pressing DISP/BACK while choosing settings will cancel all curren t settings. I f there were previous DPOF settings, only the modifications are canceled.

55 Advanced Features — Playback To st op the pr ocedure midway If the images are very large, protecting or unprotecting all the frames (files) may take some time. If you want to take a picture or record a movie during the procedure, press DISP/BACK.

61 Advanced Features — Playback Trimming ( Y TRIMMING) Use this mod e to trim th e req uired part of the photogra phed im age. 1 Select the menu. 2 Specify trimming part of image. MEMO Press DISP/BACK to return to single-frame playback. A Press p or q t o select t he trimming frame (file).
62 Usin g Playba ck Menu 3 Record the im age. MEMO • A saved image size varies depending on the zoom scale of step 2 . For 0.3 M, k YES option appears in yellow. • Image sizes • When % quality setting is selected, the image is trimmed to normal size (4:3 aspect ratio).

66 w Playing Ba ck Mo vies Setting the camera to w Playback mode ( ➝ p.31) Z Playing back movies MEMO If the subject of the shot is very bright, white vertical streaks or black horizontal streaks may appear in the image during playback. This is normal.

73 Settings When this fu nction is active and th e camera remains unused fo r 2 or 5 minutes, it turns camera off. Use this f unction when you want to get th e maximum possible runnin g time from your batt eries. CAUTIO N The Auto power off function is disabled during automatic playback ( ➝ p.
74 U SET-UP Use this f unction when tr aveling to destina tions i n different t ime zon es. This fun ction sets a time difference relative to the dat e and time cur rently se t. When this setting is enabled, the specified time difference is applied when pi ctures are taken.

78 Connecting Camera Directly to Prin ter — PictB ridge Functio n Connecting to a printer A Connect the camer a to your printer using th e USB cable (mini-B). MEMO Use the AC-3VX (sold separately) when FinePix A700 is connected to a printer for long periods.

The s oftware may not operate correctly when you use an extension cable or connect the camera via a USB hub. • When your PC has more than one USB port, the camera can be conn ected to either port.

87 Software Installation 9 The “FinePixV iewer installation completed” message dialog appears. Then click exit button and clo se it. CAUTIO N When Safari is used as the Web browser, a message may be displayed and the CD-ROM may not be removed.
88 Conn ecti ng to a PC By conne cting the cam era to a PC, your s ystem ca n be expanded to fill a wid e range of uses. Using “Fin ePixVi ewer” per forms im ages sav ing, brow sing an d fil e mana gement etc . MEMO If the power cuts out during data transmission, the data will not be transmitted correctly.
89 Software Installation When displayi ng “C HECKING USB ” If “CHECKING USB” appears and then [COMMUNICATION ERROR] is displayed on the LCD monitor, @ DSC is not selected in USB MODE. Disconnect the USB cable (mini-B) to the camera and restart the procedure from step C .
