12 iRMC S2/S3 Purpose and target groups of t he manual As an autonomous system on the system board of a modern PRIMERGY server , the iRMC S2/S3 has its own operating system, i ts own web server , separate user management and independent alert management.
iRMC S2/S3 13 Functions o f the iRMC S2/S3 1.2 Functions of the iRMC S2/S3 (o ve rview) The iRMC S2/S3 supports a wide range of functions that are pro vided by def ault. With Adv anced Video Redirection (A VR) and Remote Storage, the iRMC S2/S3 also provi des two additional adv anced f eatures f or the remote management of PRIMERGY servers.

In add ition, you can specify the mode (minimum pow er consumption or maximum perf ormance) that the iRMC S2/S3 uses to control power c onsumption on the managed server .

16 iRMC S2/S3 Functions of t he iRMC S2/S3 ● Global user management using a directory ser vice The global user IDs f or the iRMC S2/S3 are stored centr ally in the directory serv ice's directory . This makes it possib le to manage the user identifications on a central server .
iRMC S2/S3 17 Functions o f the iRMC S2/S3 – A modem can be connected to the ser ial interf ace. This can then be used to send alerts (e.g. to a mobile phone v ia SMS). In addition, the iRMC S2/S3 pro vides the Ser verVi ew agents with all the rele vant i nformation.

22 iRMC S2/S3 IPMI - technical backgr ound Adv antage The IPMI specifications ensure the independence of functions f or inv entory , logging, reco very and monitoring of a system by the system processor , BIOS or operating sys tem. This means that a sy stem can still be in v olv ed in platf orm management when it is shut down and turned off .
iRMC S2/S3 23 IPMI - technical background IPMI, IPMB and ICMB The IPMI initiativ e resulted in three central standards : – IPMI. Intelligent Platform Management Interface Specif ication describes the higher-lev el architecture, the c urrent commands, e vent formats, data pac k ets and proper ties that are used in IPMI-based systems.
