13 Getting to Know Y our LifeBook BATTERY CHARGING INDICAT ORS Located to the left of each Battery Level indicator is a small arrow symbol. This symbol states whether that specific battery is charging . This indicator will flash if the battery is too hot or cold to charge.

T ouchpad pointing device T ouchpad Pointing Device The T ouchpad pointing device built into your F ujitsu LifeBook is used to contr ol the moveme nt of the pointer to select items on y our displa y panel. The T ouchpad is composed of a cursor control, two left and right buttons, and a scrolling button.
17 Getting to Know Y our LifeBook DRAGGING Dragging means pressing and holding the left button, while moving the cursor . T o drag , mov e the cursor to the item yo u wish to move. P ress and hold the left button while moving the item t o its new location and then release it.

37 User Installable Features Lithium ion Battery Y our LifeBook notebook has a Lithium ion battery that pro vides power for operating your not ebook when no external po wer sour ce is a vailable. The batte r y is durable and long lasting , but should not be ex posed to extreme temperatures, high voltages, chem icals or other ha zards.
38 LifeBook E8000 Notebo ok Dead Battery Suspend mode sho ws on the Status indi- cator just lik e the normal Standby mode. Once y our notebook goes into Dead Battery Suspend mode y ou will be unable t o resume operation until you pro vide a source of power either fr om an adapter , or a charged battery .

43 User Installable Features INSERTING EXPRESSCARDS There ar e two differ ent width ExpressCar ds: 34 mm and 54 mm. The connector inside the slot is located on the left-hand side of the slot. If you insert a 34 mm card, be sure to align it with the left side of the slot when inserting it.

46 LifeBook E8000 Notebook Device Ports Y our Fujitsu LifeBook notebook and the optional P ort Re plicator c ome equipped with multiple ports to whic h you can co nnect external devices including: disk drives, keyboards, modems, printers, etc. MODEM (RJ-11) T ELEPHONE JACK The modem (RJ-11) telephone jack is used for an internal modem.
47 User Installable Features 1. Align the connect or with the port opening. 2. Push the c onnector into the port until it is seated. (Figure 4-14) 3. Tighten the tw o hold-down scr ews, located on each side of the connector .

55 T roubleshooting A card inserted in the PC Card or ExpressCard slot does not work or is locking up the system. (co ntinued) The card ma y ha ve been installed while an applicati on was running, so your notebook is not awar e of its installation. Close the application and restart your notebook.
56 LifeBook E8000 Notebook Y our L ifeBook noteb ook turns off all by itself. (co ntinued) Y ou are operating on batter y powe r and ignored a low batt- er y alarm until the batteries are at the dead battery state and the system has gone into Dead Battery Suspend mode.
57 T roubleshooting The system po wers up , and displays pow er on informa- tion, but fails to load the operat ing system. The boot sequence setting s of the setup utility are not compatible with your configuration.
58 LifeBook E8000 Notebook The display goes blank by itsel f after you have been using it. The notebook has go ne into V ideo timeout, Standby mode, Suspend mode or Sa ve-to-Disk mode because you ha ve not used it for a p eriod of tim e. Pr ess an y button on the keyboard, or move the mouse to rest or e operation.
59 T roubleshooting POWER ON SELF T EST MESSAGES The following is an alphabetic list of er ror -and-status messages that Phoenix BIOS and/or your operating system can generate and an explanation of each mess age.
