These symbols tell you ho w each of those components are operating. POWER INDICATOR The P ower indicat or symbol states whether y our system is operational.
13 Getting to Know Y our LifeBook BATTERY CHARGING INDICATORS Located to the left of each Battery Level indicator is a small arrow symbol. This sy mbol shows whether that specific battery is charging . This indicator will flash if the battery is too hot or cold to charge.

37 User Installable Features Lithium ion Battery Y our LifeBook notebook has a Lithium ion battery that pro vides power for operating your notebook when no external po wer sourc e is available. The batt ery is dur able and long lasting , but should not be ex posed to extreme temperatures, high voltages, chemic als or other haza rds.
38 LifeBook S7000 Notebook Dead Battery Suspend mode sho ws on the Status indi- cator just lik e the nor mal Standby mode. Once y our notebook goes into Dead Battery Suspend mode you will be unable t o resume operation until y ou provide a source of power either fr om an adapter , or a charged battery .

43 User Installable Features SMART CARD READER A dedicated Smart Card Reader is pr ovided on the r ight- hand side of your notebook (F igure 4-8) . Smart Card s are the same size and shape as credit card s, but they contain an integrated microproc essor chip.

47 User Installable Features UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS PORTS The U niversal Serial Bus 2.0 ports (USB) allow you to connect USB devices such as external game pads, pointing devices, keyboards and/or speakers. Ther e are three USB 2.0 ports on y our notebook: two on the left side and one on the right.

(con tinued) Y our op erating system soft- ware is not set up w ith correct software driver for that dev ice. Check your device and operating system docu- mentation and activate the pr oper driver .
55 T roubleshooting A card inserted in the ExpressCard slot does not work or is locking up the system. (con tinued) The card ma y hav e be en installed while an applicati on was running, so your notebook is not awar e of its installation. Close the application and restart your notebook.
